@@IonaMacinnes, Really left home in 1970, when I joined the RAF. Have worked and traveled all over the World. Now live in Toronto, NSW, Australia. But Scotland will always be home. Brought my youngest daughter to Scotland last year, she fell in love with the Highlands and Skye. And will be returning with me next year. On that visit the weather was perfect, no rain. But can't wait too feel the Haar on my face and that sharp breeze that comes down the Glen. I say this to everyone that plan to visit Scotland, You are not just visiting a country, you are experience a life changing event that will live with you forever. And keep calling you back.

Those frosty scenes are magnificent! We stayed at the same hotel a couple of times. I had to laugh when you showed the lobby restroom. My sister took a picture of me in there, spinning around with my arms out. It's huge! Was that a Millionaires Bar your Mum had? I love those! Thanks & looking forward to Skye. 😄

Another kind of interesting thing about the Royal Highland Hotel is that it was the railroad hotel, and when I stayed there a couple of years ago I found there are still passageways in the upper floors of the hotel that lead down stairways to the tracks (the doors are locked now). And yeah, the artwork at the hotel was fantastic.
@christinegodley oh its fabulous isn't it, love it. The only thing was Mum an dI were disappointed with the loos this time. They were cold, the soap was the same brand I use to clean my shower, you know that astonish stuff, costs are clearly catching up there. And nowhere near as many outside lights as they usually have. Another fabulous video! I did this route in reverse. I flew to Inverness, hired a car and drove to the Skye Bridge in summer. The journey was about 100 miles but it took me 4 hours because I kept stopping to take photos! I didn't have time to go inside Eilean Donan Castle but I stopped for a break there. There is a webcam there and I told my dad to check it and he saw me on it haha. The whole route is stunning!

Oh gosh you're the same as Mum and I then ha, taking pictures and I rarely post them anywhere, I must share them on instagram. Oh what beautiful Scenery, love the cloud inversions. I was on that road to and from Kyle of Lochalsh only a few weeks ago, very sad but I get excited as I drive closer to Skye Bridge. Have you been to the Coffee Bothy at Broadford? They make lovely coffee and cakes, the staff are lovely too. It’s become a tradition when we are up that way to call in. Raasay is a great little island, I had a wee dram of Raasay a couple of days ago. Not been across for a couple of years though, there was a really friendly bloke working on the ferry called John, after talking to him it turned out he was from just a few miles away from where I live. That was interesting to see Inverness, Ive never stopped there before to look around. We have always been on our way somewhere so not had the time to stop. Im thinking now perhaps we should stop and take a look around. I’m guessing you will of gone home via Uig (pronounced with a small u, see I’m learning). I will be visit Uig in spring time to stock up on some of their stout, it’s lovely it reminds me of a peated whisky but only one bottle at a time as it’s quite strong stuff. @IonaMacinnes I think I can remember them. It was a busy street with traffic then. I'm just old enough to remember The Carlton too on Inglis Street ( albeit underage student days!) Town centre is slowly re-inventing itself I think. We spent a day there shopping etc .Enjoyed a nostalgic wander around. Visited Leakeys bookshop and Old High Church for the view after walking past it oblivious for years. The food hall in Victorian Market is another plus point. Credit where it's due 👍 All calm on Skye, for now......😬😂

She's now 93 & can barely walk 😔 I'm determined my girl & I will do all these places together that you take us. She was up there last week for a murder mystery W/E near Carlisle! Her mate lives in Edinburgh. Ella loves Scotland, if she moved there I'd be right behind her! @IonaMacinnes I'm from West Kilbride in Ayrshire but was surprised to find a West Kilbride on South Uist itself. I took my dad on a road trip via Oban to Barra and up through the Islands to Lewis about 10 years ago. His favourite song was the Dark Island so Benbecula was a must. My mum's family are Morrisons from Lewis so that was a must for myself. I really liked the two bookend islands, Barra/Vatersay and Lewis/Harris. We inevitably fell out and came back a day early 🤣
@adastra1500 yes thats right so was I when I passed there. Oh well lots of Morrisons in Lewis, do you still have any relations here? Yip, Lewis is definitely the best island of all. I got a job in South Uist so thats why I'm there. Fortunately I am getting a transfer home in the new year so I will be coming home soon. I've been in SU for 3 years so it's time. Ix
@@IonaMacinnes hopefully your transfer back home works out well for you. I haven't looked into my family tree, it was one of my cousins on the Morrison side. There could well be family there still. I know one of my grampa Morrison's brothers was a minister and a missionary to China in the early 1900s. My grampa on the other hand was a bit of a lad and certainly have more illegitimate relations down here. My poor gran had to put up with a lot of nonsense!

Raasay is a great little island, I had a wee dram of Raasay a couple of days ago. Not been across for a couple of years though, there was a really friendly bloke working on the ferry called John, after talking to him it turned out he was from just a few miles away from where I live.
That was interesting to see Inverness, Ive never stopped there before to look around. We have always been on our way somewhere so not had the time to stop. Im thinking now perhaps we should stop and take a look around.
I’m guessing you will of gone home via Uig (pronounced with a small u, see I’m learning). I will be visit Uig in spring time to stock up on some of their stout, it’s lovely it reminds me of a peated whisky but only one bottle at a time as it’s quite strong stuff.

@IonaMacinnes I think I can remember them. It was a busy street with traffic then. I'm just old enough to remember The Carlton too on Inglis Street ( albeit underage student days!) Town centre is slowly re-inventing itself I think. We spent a day there shopping etc .Enjoyed a nostalgic wander around. Visited Leakeys bookshop and Old High Church for the view after walking past it oblivious for years. The food hall in Victorian Market is another plus point. Credit where it's due 👍

OOh Iona that was a lovely video! Proper Christmassy! I wish I could have done stuff like that with my mum but I left home & went to london at 18. She's now 93 & can barely walk 😔 I'm determined my girl & I will do all these places together that you take us. She was up there last week for a murder mystery W/E near Carlisle! Her mate lives in Edinburgh. Ella loves Scotland, if she moved there I'd be right behind her! I follow a couple on here called 'Living the Skye Life', I love them nearly as much as you (but not quite haha) check em out! Hope you had a fab Christmas, I'm glad it's all over!
@vivellasmum Merry Christmas to you. I'm sitting at home watching football and having wine after x-mas dinner (we always have it boxing day). I know, it's great when it's all over isn't it, there's way too much build up and expectations. We have have had a lovely time, quiet here in Stornoway. Ohh a murder mystery sounds like fun and lovely getting t Edinburgh, these days Edinburgh is so expensive to stay it's great if you have pals living there. @adastra1500 haha😂 good question! I do love South Uist in the Spring and Summer, I’ve got the mountain behind me and the beach in front. Anyway, I’ll be home in a few months for good so I’ll have to make the most of it in the next few months. Where are you from? You’ve obviously been to both islands. @IonaMacinnes I'm from West Kilbride in Ayrshire but was surprised to find a West Kilbride on South Uist itself. I took my dad on a road trip via Oban to Barra and up through the Islands to Lewis about 10 years ago. His favourite song was the Dark Island so Benbecula was a must. My mum's family are Morrisons from Lewis so that was a must for myself. I really liked the two bookend islands, Barra/Vatersay and Lewis/Harris. We inevitably fell out and came back a day early 🤣
@adastra1500 yes thats right so was I when I passed there. Oh well lots of Morrisons in Lewis, do you still have any relations here? Yip, Lewis is definitely the best island of all. I got a job in South Uist so thats why I'm there. Fortunately I am getting a transfer home in the new year so I will be coming home soon. I've been in SU for 3 years so it's time. Ix
@@IonaMacinnes hopefully your transfer back home works out well for you. I haven't looked into my family tree, it was one of my cousins on the Morrison side. There could well be family there still. I know one of my grampa Morrison's brothers was a minister and a missionary to China in the early 1900s. My grampa on the other hand was a bit of a lad and certainly have more illegitimate relations down here. My poor gran had to put up with a lot of nonsense!
