@ hello Jimmy, thanks so much & for messaging, glad you’re enjoying them. Och it’s good craic and passes the time for me down here where there’s very little to do when I’m not at work. Where do you live? ‘Onwards and upwards’ haha, I love your enthusiasm and optimism Jimmy❤️ Ix
@@IonaMacinnes Hi Iona East Kilbride here, I love the west coast and go wild camping with friends a lot as well. Last year did 5 days Lewis and Harris which was amazing, camped at Traigh Na Beirigh and Horgabost both brilliant and seen pretty much all of the island which has so many contrasts and interesting features. Look forward to seeing more of your adventures,so many places to visit even in Scotland. All the best Jimmy x
@jimmyboyd817 oh aye East Kilbride, excellent. There's someone else from East Kilbride here, canny mind who just now but I'll reminder and tell you. Great you've already spent a while up here and sounds like you had a brilliant time and managed to see loads so that's great, and staying at Horogabost would have been so good. Yes you could just holiday in Scotland and have great times. I'll bring you about lots more in the Hebrides and beyond so hopefully hear from you again. Ix
@christinegodley ooft it’s fierce but I don’t think we’re getting as bad as you would expect, for a change. Causeways were closed, the one in my video too. Hope it’s ok with you. Glad you enjoyed a wee trip to Grimsay😀, thank you. Ix
@andrewmcdonald793 oh thanks so much, it was lovely making this video and Im glad you've seen it and enjoyed it. The history is all well documented on boards in the boat museum so it's very easy to get a grasp on what it was like living on Grimsay Island. Nowadays is very different with the causeways. Thanks you Andrew as always, Ix
@garethgeorge580 yes you’ll need to plan a nice trip and see this place, eat here and taste the sea and a boat trip too, they do boat trips from Grimsay. I will do, lots to get round yet. Thank you! Ix
New subscriber here, thanks for all the great informative stuff you vlog. We are often visiting the Outer Hebrides. We simply love it, so much so we viewed a few properties there. Fav highlights, Bara, Vatersay and North Uist 💕
@CampervanTravelsInDora hello, welcome and thank you. Much appreciate you subscribing to my wee channel where im mostly on boats, sometimes ships, soon to be on another one cruising round the Canaries but I always come back to the Scottish isles. So you've narrowed it down to 3, thats good. So then accommodation is the next factor isn't it. More properties for sale in North Uist, none in Vatersay and few and far between in Barra. How good you get up here tho, thats great you love it. Mind if you're up you come say hello to me. But I'll be seeing you on other videos I'm sure. I've got lots planned for this year after the cruise. Ix
What a beautiful place, and so much interesting history. I've put Grimsay Island on my places to visit in 2025. Will look forward to crossing over the rather dodgy footbridge. Another very enjoyable video.
@adamshore7641 you have a lot on that list now Adam! Great, glad you enjoyed. What a laugh that dodgy bridge, its up by Lochmaddy, not Grimsay just incase you didn't catch that on the video. But you need to go there too, it's cool. Ix
@@IonaMacinnes I ticked Vietnam off my list after seeing your videos, and have managed to get to Rum and Eigg. looking forward to the weather improving so i can visit more of the islands around Scotland.
As always, a fun video with such beautiful sites. I wonder if they were drying that seaweed for consumption or crop fertilizer....hmmm. I'd have crossed that bridge with you! I was relieved that you made it over and back without a slat busting! 😧😆
I know, I wonder. I mean I could have just asked someone later who I met but I forgot, but I will find out. Oh heck the bridge what a laugh but I wasn’t laughing going over it😂😂🙈. Good fun seeing all those places tho. Ix
Another sensational wee Vlog Iona, You have a knack of making everything so watchable but take 2 carrier bags, One for dirty socks & trainers and 2nd to collect the scallop shells, scrubbed & cleaned they're worth quite a bit sold as dishes to serve seafood in. can't wait for your next one, Happy Burns night, 25/01/25 Slàinte Mhath Tx
@tezzah... my pal and I have eaten haggis (from the chippy in South Uist) while organising our holiday so its been lovely Burns night. Oh I know I've got a load of them (shells) I was going to decoupage, in fact I did do a few for my parents for xmas last year which they still have. Thanks Tezzah! Happy Burns night, hope you're enjoying a dram. Ix
OOh Iona I'd have been bricking it over that bridge!! Those shells 😮 I guess all from the shellfish place? Beautiful shells, they ought to be exporting them for craft making! Thanks for another fun video where you made me smile &. even Ella was casting her eye at it in between scrolling rubbish on instagram, I missed mum though, got so used to her being there😂
@vivellasmum I know, they sell them in the shops all decoupaged and sparkly for about £10. I took some ages ago to do the same with, I did a few for gifts but if you remember in the Uist sculpture trail at Langass lodge they have them in the garden in an arch and it’s so effective, those one one and antlers on another. When you come fill your boot! Hi Ella, nice to have you join us in Grimsay👍 I know, once I’m home Mum will rejoin us again so that’ll be good. Thanks again, is your new channel up yet? Ix
@@IonaMacinnes Noo I really must get on with it, I need to clear a load off my laptop in order to get the editing programme! Ella says Da Vinci but some use Final Cut Pro, what do you use? I hope I can get my head round it! I must watch the sculpture trail again (just watching this one again!) You were so funny when you got wet feet! 😆 OMG only 15 to get to 1k!
@ Yes get your laptop emptied and go for it. Get an external drive to move what's on it then you'll have free space. Ive got a 1tb Samsung thing that stores all my clips. I use iMovie on my MacBook and I'm quite comfortable using it and it's free which is the main thing, although the MacBook cost my parents a lot for my xmas last year I guess if you already have a laptop then either of the two Ella suggests would be good. I'm not really techy and I taught myself using UA-cam so I'm pretty happy I can string a video of some description together haha, Oh I know this was a laugh. Mum says she's not watching anymore of my videos after I went over that bridge! haha oh gosh what a joke, I won't go over something like that again in a hurry. I know, nearly at 1k subscribers is so lovely, I think all my subscribers are so nice and it's good to hear everyone else's story. Things won't improve much after 1k tho ha, although I might splash out on a dji mic, you know the one you see lots of UA-camrs using, they're good but expensive so we'll see. Ix
Great vlog once again Iona, this must be one of your longest videos yet with very interesting information, loved the wool, boat and shellfish places. Btw every time I pass a passing place sign I'm always tempted to paint over the first a to " p*ssing place" lol. Great work once again...much appreciated. x
@daviemcf haha, oh I’ll have that in my head now😂 yeah the boat place was so cool and was fun to make so I’m glad it translated to the video. Thank you once again Davie. Now I’m heading for the stored footage, stuff I took last year but didn’t edit together yet cos this weather is terrible and I’ve not been able to go out so perfect excuse to put something together with the stuff I’ve got saved, let’s see what it turns out like, don’t expect much is what I’m saying ha. Ix
@@IonaMacinnes Good thinking Iona to save footage from the summer months, the weather has been terrible recently, I'm sure it'll be amazing as usual, all the best. x

Cheers Bruce & where’s your mate gone? Tell him to come say hello again😂 Ix
Beautiful isles, you are so lucky. Hope the recent storm hasn’t caused much chaos. Namara Cafe was closed when I was there too but like you had a stroll around the harbour area. Wish I had seen the Boat Museum when I was there, looks like I will need another visit. The shells reminded me of childhood holidays in Whitby, there was a shellfish business that used to dump muscle shells over the cliff edge into the harbour but all that has now gone of course.
@dieselbushcraft1299 I think we got off lightly for a change with the storm I know it's beautiful isn't it. The shells are there for the taking so you can fill your boots when you come the next time, and hopefully eat in Namara and see the boat museum. Ooh plenty places you need to see before returning to the same places twice I'm sure. Nice wee reminder of your childhood being the shells, thats lovely isn't it. Has it all gone cos they're not allowed to do that to do they not have the business there any more? Ix
@ no idea what happened to the business but the cliffs have suffered erosion and the area is now a turn around spot for the narrow street. The land the business was on is holiday cottage’s now. Theres still a small fishing fleet in the town but I think it’s mainly shellfish. Like many harbour towns Whitby had a large fishing fleet. Tourism seems to be the biggest business in the town these days. I do love Whitby but it gets rammed with people in the summer months and even off season it can still get busy.
I'm happy to hear that the Storm Erowyn has not caused you and your islands extensive harm. I enjoyed watching this video and as usual, you did a great job. ❤🤠Px
We will hear this morning the extent of damage (if any) done. It’s still windy enough and disruptions to ferries but think the worst has passed. Although I’m awake because of the wind, it’s so loud. Thank you❤️ Ix
