Inferiority Complex: How to Stop Feeling Inferior
    What up!
Today I wanted to touch on a topic that I've noticed a lot in the messages I've been getting lately.
We've all felt not "good enough" at some point or another and for a whileeee I struggled with this too.
That's why it kills me to see people not really valuing themselves and seeing their true self worth!
And for me I used to think I just wasn't anything special or worthwhile, I saw other people as "better at life" than me haha and that some people were just lucky and I wasn't one of them. Sucks bro.
Looking back it's insane that I used to think like that but I can see why my self-confidence and self-esteem was nonexistent haha.
So if you've ever felt not good enough or struggle with feeling inferior to others I've got the hook up.
I put together this video to give you some quick tips on how to CRUSH that feeling of not being "good enough".
And regardless of whatever negative self-image you have going on, you are and always will be more than enough. Remember that.

You can't just TELL yourself those positive things, you have to live it. You have to make it a fact. You have to KNOW it deep down.

Lol.... It pisses me off how naive you are and how dumb I am to prove you wrong. All I can say is, going through schizophrenia, your mind can be altered and tweaked. "Think therefor I am." Understand...? It's feasible in plenty of circumstances..

    • @kostaskorras
      @kostaskorras 5 років тому +7

Well telling yourself theses things is better than believing negatively is it not
And yes you can fool and trick the brain that’s the best way to change. I like to smile when things go wrong so that my brain says, “what? You like this? Ok then everything is fine after all”. Yes you have to FEEL that tho.

@@avenger4891 is that the case? or is this another trick of the inferiority complex? constantly needing "proof". It sounds like ur combining intellectualization symptoms with inferiority complex symptoms.

Nah mate , doesn't work for me...
Sometimes, bad thoughts about myself just come in involuntary... It always happens when I'm around people, or when I'm the center of attention. I just feel like fkn disappearing , and my break shuts down. It's really hard for me to take part in social situations without feeling that I'm some sort of worthless piece of sht .
I know I can do much better ,but that itself becomes irrelevant whenever I take actions . Everything just sucks...

@Emilia Romagna, I've had the same problem in the past (mainly in High School). A few years later and I'm much better off. My personal recommendation would be to look back at all your past accomplishments, and if you don't know of any then my advice is to make some. Join a club, learn a skill (don't forget to study up on it to make it better.) Devote yourself and you'll have accomplishments racking up in no time flat. At the very least just remember that you were a winner since before you were born. You were the fastest, strongest sperm to reach and fertilize your mother's embryo. That means you beat 10,000's of potential beings just to be born. If you can beat the odds 10,000 / 1 then what can't you do when you put your mind to it?

This might sound stupid but I thought that loving myself was selfish. However, there is a huge distinction between a healthy selfish image and being arrogant and cocky. A healthy selfish image makes you more humble, whereas a superior self image causes you to be more selfish. Thanks Martin, you're awesome.

Thank you again.

Thank you for this… I've had an inferiority complex when it comes to talking to UA-camrs, big or small… and I just posted what felt like an absolute embarrassment of a post on Tumblr where I talked about wanting to be this UA-camr's friend. Not because he's well known mind you, but because he seems like someone Id like to talk to on a regular basis… and I felt so embarrassed… but I went to a mirror and told myself "they're no different from you, they're a human just like you" and told myself that constantly until I calmed down about my post and felt better about what may or may not come out of him possibly reading that post…

When I was a child, I was told by everyone I was dumb and had no right to say anything. When I was hurt, it was 'normal', nothing new. When I was crying, nobody cared why - I was crying a lot. Until I took their game in my own hands, they stopped bullying me. But I told myself 'It's only me.' I started to believe them. Today I struggle to defend myself, because I think I deserve it. If I do a mistake, I punish myself so nobody else will do it. It hurts beating myself up the whole time, but it feels right. 'Because it's okay to hate on me. It's normal. Everybody does it, so I do it too to be one of them. .. The runt, but one of them.' .. I hate myself so much.

Feeling inferior isnt because YOU started telling yourself youre bad etc. The only reason we have this inner monologue is because we were taught/believed this because of the way others, usually our parents, teachers or peers in primary and secondary school treated us.

My last job ended badly and although I think walking out was the best decision I could have made at the time my confidence was completely shattered to the point where I've actively feared getting another job for over a year thinking it will end the exact same way. I'm due to start my new job on Monday and although I'm absolutely terrified I feel this is the right step to get over my complete lack of self worth. I appear to be working with some genuinely nice people this time instead of the pricks I was working with before and I'm somewhat looking forward to it. I suppose what I'm trying to get at is, don't let one bad experience stop you from moving forward.

if someone calls you out and you feel insecure,
    like with cutting hair
so no thanks my hair is beautiufl
-feeling the need to attack them means you feel insecure still andnot enough self worth in it.
-maybe before they said it you were starting to think it looks good
and after they say it you may feel down and suddenly even tho same hair , it looks worse for some reason.
    _____
you have achieved true self worth when you can brush off what they say without
FEELING(RM NOT SAYING is not the same as not feeling)
    the need to attack back.
Meet all their remarks by saying things not normally socially acceptable,
call yourself beautiful in front of other, say you will be rich in the future in front of others
it doesnt matter whether or not you or anyone belives it
But the act of saying it esp in a social settings really helps to reinfornce self worth.
Its like muscle memory training, at peak of the exercise when body is most tired = when the body will most remember the mototr functions you are doing
so if you wanna train a specific movement with good form, make sure to do it all the time
BUT most importantly to do it under the most extreme moments

2:42 theres 2 ways to build confidence
either tell yourself and build yourself
    or
tear others down to feel better about yourself
like feeling insecure about just having given an awkward hug
so you go and say "Wow cmon now give me a real hug"
when the truth is you were emanating at least half of the awkwardness
so you blame someone else for it.= tearing down anothers confidence to build up your own
like im not awkward, she is
    __________
As he said to build a tall tower
    you either build it
    or
tear down all the competition around you

It's literally gotten to the point where I feel unmotivated to draw because I don't think my stuff is good enough compared to theirs. In return I was feeling jealous about their achievements and I acted like someone that tried to tear them apart not knowing because of jealousy towards their achievements. Yeah, when I was younger, I wasn't very good at socializing. So when I finally did have friends, I would try to be funny and make them laugh. And since I always talked a lot, I would talk a lot with my friends. But the teachers would always get mad at me for talking so much. So I gained a 'maturity' inferiority complex, thinking I was less mature than everyone else. So everytime I would see someone my age (that wasn't mentally disabled) acting less maturely than I, I would actually feel good about myself.

    Dear Martin,
This is a great suggestion. It's a bit hard because I want to be true to myself, but the career that I am aiming for in the future, I feel I don't have those personality traits. I like to dream, but then when I come to reality, I'm like.. eh I'm not as outspoken as I thought I was, so I must try to overcome it. Maybe I should try to go for a career with my personality traits, because I always feel that I have to try harder for change.. However, you said self - worth is accepting who you are an improving along the way.. :D Haha, I will definitely try that, "I am worth it. We all are!"

I'm afraid of asking too much from the world and of people. I don't want to be isolated and self-absorbed, because I still like caring about others. I'm so afraid of being self-centered, that I learned to constantly ask people questions, afraid that I might bore them if I talk about myself. It's ironic though, because I enjoy listening to others. I know my perspective is my responsibility, but I've yet to find an answer to these blockages. Any suggestions are appreciated.

I am always so annoyed.my family always compares me to others and when other people put me down I feel inferior. I feel so frustrated and disappointed in myself and in my own mind I defeat that person in whatever then I realise that this is not the reality and I am so fucked up and it really elevates my anxiety level and I just keep thinking about it all day and feel even more inferior. I don't know what to

    This doesn't really help.
I tried telling myself that i can do it and that i can make it through college just like i have been doing in high school, i tried telling myself that looks don't matter and i can make friends with anybody, i tried telling myself that i'm smart enough to avoid embarrassing myself everywhere i go. But i have never been so wrong, i failed 4 courses in college and now starting over, i have no friends, and i keep embarrassing myself in front of people. And to top it all off i'm short and unattractive, things that will never change

    • @PeakYourMind
      @PeakYourMind  7 років тому

You can tell yourself those things all day but if you don't believe them, they're not going to get you anywhere.
HERE'S THE TRUTH: The past doesn't equal the future. But if you decide things will never change they won't. BUT if you decide to get off your ass and start taking control of your life and changing them then they will. Look at anyone who has made something of themselves. Anyone has has had the odds stacked against them. I'll be honest, I used to think the same way you do. Find what you're good at, everyone has something, develop it and share it.

0:50 align true self with self image
many times wearing certain clothes puts you in a certain mood maybe being too cool for others , when true self may be goofy, so be goofy while looking like a cool cat(=aligning self image to true self)
1:40 you have to stop yourself from subconciosuly telling yourself who you are right now.
its a tactic Vic Secret models use on the run way
When wearing certain clothes they need to convey a cpsecific mood, and the clothing def helps just like costumes do for actors
it alllows one to be in the mindset they want to be in
in your case you have to constantly snap yourself out of it and tell yourself who you truly are
2:05 like with elliott hulse tell yourself you are whole, worth, powerful, complete

I don’t know why but I got into a fight with the popular girl who used to be my friend. I am just scared of going back to school because she doesn’t like me and I’m scared that she will make me feel left out by driving other girls away from me. She has so much poorer because everyone at my school is her friend except me. Dude I’m terrified what do I do?!

first, is my appreciation for the video... as much as I have got it in my Psych class but there are some elements you brought up that elevated me.
second, for these two facts: the video itself and the copy I see (recognise) of Psycho-cybernetics on your table may I ask the rest list of your reads on that particular table.
I hope I am not being extra...
    Thank you in advance

I honestly love the purpose of this video, however, I sincerely do not believe that telling yourself that you have certain qualities matches with aligning with your true self.
Don't get me wrong, I believe you are right about the "alignment" part of the video, it's the closest thing to truth a person could deliver, still, you don't need to "self convince yourself", you need to give coherency to your personal story, that's what shapes your identity.
When we are young, we often build theories that in that particular moment are helpful ("i am guilt, my mother is the good person" - example) , these theories, once you grow up, remain inside of your brain, and they can potentially harm the perception of your self value.
Understanding yourself, giving mercy to your past, to your old fears, to your own self prejudices, giving them reasons that puts them to rest, that's what stops the inferiority complex to exist.

Great video, and the world needs more people like you!

rand0m0mg Thanks! Haha no I get it, I appreciate the question. My background is in psych, and I only like talking about things where I feel like I can add value to people. Most of my knowledge comes from studying this stuff like crazy. I've been super into psychology and self-improvement and I've been studying and applying this stuff to see how it works for the past 7 years. The rest of the stuff I like to touch on is from personal experience, what helped me.
