I love how these guys think being abusive is being “protective”
I am seriously scared for the people growing up, seeing this on the internet and thinking that's how a relationship is supposed to be.
Very concerned these are targeted at young people and thinking this is love and not abusive.
I love but mostly hate it
Fun story I heard from my kid's friend: my daughter (13) was kinda dating a wannabe Eboy. The other day he snatched her phone out of her hand with the "who you texting?" line. She put him in a wrist lock until he apologized. They are not dating any more. POV: You pull the protective/abusive boyfriend crap and I break your wrist.
*mentally abuses gf to the point where she feels suicidal* it's because I love you babe!!!
Someone needs to tell these people that "posessive" is _not_ "protective."
My thoughts exactly. Posessive is toxic, protective can be cute.
No matter the gender.
And someone needs to teach this to young girls (and boys too, no one should accept being treated like this). As a young girl I was so into "possessive" behavior. I genuinely thought it was romantic and sweet when my ex did things like being jealous of my friends and trying to turn me against them (and in some cases succeeding) and getting mad at me whenever men looked at and/or talked to me and getting upset and mad at me whenever I went out anywhere. I thought that's just how people act when they care about you, and stuff like that is so romanticized in media and romance stories, so I was convinced it was a good thing and I liked it. (In my case my ex is a girl as well, so yeah to the other commenter who said this applies no matter the gender.)

How are these people using the word "protective???" Even in the abusive sense, an overprotective boyfriend is one who's too eager to start a fight when they think SOMEBODY ELSE is threatening you.
