As an autistic person I find it extremely offensive and belittling when people say someone has autism as an insult.
I don’t understand how it makes any sense - someone having autism has nothing to do with their sexuality or gender identity. It makes me so mad to see.

Yeah I get you, that's just fucked up, and it annoys me too, I'm not autistic but I have friends who are, there's nothing wrong, it's something extra. I get annoyed when people use Downs Syndrome as an insult too, my brother has Downs Syndrome and is more intelligent than any kid his own age who isn't, and extremely creative.
I'm autistic and ace, it's so dumb when people try to use these kinds of things as insults, they're normal parts of human experience being diverse and there's nothing wrong with that.

When Elliot Page came out, I had posted something about them on my instagram story (referring to them with he/they pronouns and using the name Elliot). Shortly after I posted it, my grandpa had direct messaged me saying "That's a deadname!" "She doesn't go by Elliot anymore! She's a real woman and we should all get her new name and pronouns right"
At this point I hadn't talked with my grandfather about Trans Issues™ all that much so I was taken aback at the fact that he automatically tried to take Elliot's side and correct me. But I remember getting hysterical over the fact that he had it backwards and was STILL trying so hard to show his support. After explaining it to him that Elliot *used to* use she/her pronouns but *now* uses he/they pronouns, my grandpa started to understand the whole situation better and was just sort of like "oh... well okay! I must've got it all mixed up"
I just thought it'd be interesting to share this story and point out that not all misunderstandings in the world of trans acceptance are rooted in bigotry. I'm very glad that my grandfather is supportive of the trans community, even if he does get confused from time to time haha
And the fact that he's from "another generation" that "just doesn't understand things in the same way that us young people do" really gives me hope for the future :)

i remember cutting my hair short and my grandmother asking if i was trans, i said “no i’m cisgender” and she looked at me nervously and said “What is that”
To be fair, it is still quite a new term, but at least she asked. 😂 Your grandma seems nice. Reminded me of my grandma. When I was in high school, I was very tomboyish. One time, I came to visit, and she said "so, have you already met some nice young man?" then stopped, looked me from head to toe, and added "or perhaps some nice girl?"

The “if my son is trans he’s not my son anymore” was probably a person who supports trans people since at the time there was a kind of trend on tiktok where someone would be like “ if my son is trans that’s not my son anymore.....that’s my daughter” and people would comment similar stuff so yeah that might’ve been a joke
I think it'd be more accurate/supportive to say something like "my daughter told me she's trans and I told her she's not my son anymore."

Hang in there! One day things will get better for you. I moved out from home after high school and currently go to a university with really good health care plan that covers literally everything (mental health, educational testing, trans health care, etc) and it's allowed me to have the freedom and ability to get the health care that I need. I know this isn't an option for everyone and that perhaps college isn't even the path you want to take, but I wanted to show that you won't have to be stuck in that situation forever!

My friend of many year’s, just transitioned, and when I saw I was so happy I literally cried. I watched this man be married to my friend for year’s. I watched her shame him, send him to therapy, demand he stay male if he wanted to stay with her, and their kids, and the endless cycles of depression; what a beautiful thing to see her finally feeling like HERself!

I just realised that we use they/them pronouns for one person as while as multiple,I though it was for multiple people only but I was wrong. (I still respected people who called them selfs they/them cause while I was confused,I knew it was better to respect the person and I still respect that)
It’s technically “against the rules” according to a lot of linguists, but it’s such a ubiquitous part of the way we talk (and has been for as long as English as we know it has been around) that it’s silly to say it’s incorrect.
Oh, I had the same problem when I was new to social media! It's especially more difficult for foreigners who don't have gendered pronouns. I believe others will be able to understand one day too, it might take longer, but learning is a process that takes time! Plus, being from a conservative country or family also has a huge impact.
@@sealogic4552 as a linguistics major I can confirm that there are some people in this field not accepting it, but those people are idiots. Languages change and that is the whole point of them. If dozens of different languages can stem from the same source, borrowing from others so everything can have its own term, why shouldn't we change the linguistic property of they/them in certain situations to account for something we need a term for? It's the people that put "traditions" above everything who don't see that language and society has always changed and therefore always will

Do people not remember when "Family Bathrooms" started popping up everywhere, especially really posh ones in new malls? We've had mixed gender bathrooms in the US for as long as I can remember. Also, I've ran into the men's room when it was way too long to wait for the women's one and it was an emergency. I wasn't trying peep some junk. I just needed to go lol

My mum - who used to shop in the "men's" clothing department - went to use the "ladies'" loos one day at our local mall, and a woman said to her "Excuse me - this is the ladies' bathroom!". And Mum just looked her in the eye and said "AND?" and the woman scuttled off, muttering.
So after Mum told my (trans) son and I and pointed the woman out in the mall, my son and I just gave this woman two beaming smiles as she walked past us and she looked SO embarrassed...
I like to think she learned something that day.

I have explained being Trans to myself, and even what dysphoria and gender euphoria feel like, and then I see people like this trying to tell us we "shouldn't question what God made us" and "we should be comfortable in out own skin"
If the twelve year old can understand, I'm pretty sure you should too. But then again they grew up in a time where transphobia and homophobia were okay and practiced, so it may be hard for them to accept. I was taught to be homophobic for a while, and now look at me, a pansexual Trans.
Long story short, hopefully we can have a world where the lgbtq, and people outside of it are all accepted as equals.

Hello there! I'm watching you for the first time and appreciate your candor. I'm an old lady who lives in a conservative town in a liberal state. My parents were in different political parties and raised us to read, learn and vote for what you agree with, not a party line. I have always backed science and was intrigued with medical intervention for trans people as a child back in the 60s. I am still stunned at some people's clinging to ignorance!
