    Episode 9 of the Caro Kann Versus Everything speedrun sees an exchange Caro Kann where my opponent sacrifices (or blunders perhaps) 2 pawns in exchange for massive positional compensation to attempt to break apart the wall of the Caro Kann Defense. Despite being 1300 rated, he does an incredible job of posing some serious questions to my Caro Kann Defense structure, since when did 1300's get this good??

    Some people with lower ratings might be like me, especially for longer term players, I've been playing Chess since the early 1970's, if I don't play for a while my rating goes down when I do play now and again, but, if I start playing more regularly it goes up. I also play on multiple platforms and offline so it doesn't always show up in history.

      Very fair point, has chess changed a lot since the 70s?

    Might be part of the minority here but I found it very informative and novel that you go in depth and explain several ideas in one move. Very educational seeing how you look for weaknesses and come up with ideas to attack or defend them

    I find it interesting how your thought process after ra4 was bringing the queen to your king side, or (as you played) invading his queenside. Tbh, just seeing the potentiel threats on my queen and not wanting it to get trapped i just wanted to tuck it away and play something like qc5 to play qc6 and just try to conserve the 2 pawn advantedge with as little complications as possible. Is there a reason you didn't add this to your analysis, or was it simply missed?

      I just wanted to control the dark squared diagonal cuz I was really scared of moves like Bc3 so I kinda tunnel visioned I think

      @@ChessCenturion i mean anyone can write down the variation on paper. and stick to the move order BUT can they understand why that move was played? do they know where its leading to?. and why these other candidate moves werent considered?. also if lets say your in a new position out of any known theory for that opening. what rules or guidelines should we follow to get ous out of trouble? @@ChessCenturion The direction you took the opening, and then the hanging of the rook at the end to throw the win.
      Mostly it was a unique Caro position I've never reached. I would never have considered locking my bishop into the pawn chain instead of pinning the knight or moving to f5. (depending on white's opening) I always thought the fight was over the central pawn.
      However, you obviously had a major advantage in the middle game, so I'm not critiquing at all. Thus "unexpected" lol; didn't know what else to say as the game was above my level.

    • @ChessCenturion

      @cobeferraro3464 28 днів тому +3

      I'm not saying it in a bad way and I know it may come across like I'm sounding arrogant which I don't mean too. My point is i used to play the caro the exact same way, i was like you more positional and missed some tactics sometimes. I'm not perfect now of course or anything, but I've gave up the caro and devoted 2 years to doing a complete 180 and becoming an attacking player. At the higher levels the caro often gets you a position that is a bit passive and you get under attack, which i don't like personally. Now i play sicilians against e4 and get active pieces and counter chances. Open games over the semi closed nature of caro. This has helped me become a better and more well rounded player. Food for thought. Cheers!

      @ChessCenturion  28 днів тому

      Interesting take, appreciate you taking the time man! I can play 1.e5 pretty well as a backup since I played that most of my life, I'm just not sure I'm tactically sound enough to play sicilians if u get me?
