I got it about a month ago, but didn't know it was a named gambit; I thought it was just a creative novelty. In my game, I found the correct opening sequence, but after Bc4+, I played ...e6. After BE6 I was screaming at the screen for QB2 to take the pawn and threaten the rook as it was tied to the back rank to stop mate. Same after your opponent played QF7, then if they threaten the bishop, KA6 for the exchange but it becomes a lot more complicated. Excellently played Eric especially for facing an unknown opening! GG
I have to say, Eric, you are the calmest chess player I have ever seen. Even when you're in a losing position, you still kept your composure, never losing your cool, even in situations where you had lost materials, and especially when you go ''Oh no, my queen!'' Goes to show that cooler heads prevails.

I play the caro kann a lot and have faced this opening numerous times but had no idea it was a meme opening. Thank you for this video! Imma go check out how I've done against it...
This is funny the repertoire I bought also covers this line. Essentially black should play e6 and drop the king back to g8 when white goes Ne5 and Bc4. Black is pretty cozy and if white goes d4 then the usual plan of undermining it with c5 is pretty strong
i have direct experience of this line from the black side. there is one player who plays it against me in hyper and has a really good record against me. I know the computer says it's good for black but it's extremely tricky to play. I feel at least partially vindicated when I see that even Eric Rosen struggled against it. Really nice queen sack to mate at the end though.
Its not an Alien gambit and its not new! I have played this opening for over 20 years including many correspondence games! Also beginning of December 2023 I did beat 2 CMs in over the board games with this. Both games happened in Latvian team championship, one in Rapid another in blitz. Rapid game was also published on Facebook by tournament arbiter. Additional info - even your opponent has stolen my idea - he missed to demonstrate to you even the main strategic idea why I am playing the opening this way and why the piece is scarified. Additionally - the streamer whom you mentioned also does not know how to contribute the author because obviously by his age he can't be an author to this. I first invented this sacrifice in late 199ties in my correspondence games and used it to trick opponents who used computers because engines of that time could not correctly asses long term positional plans that white have here. I still play it in blitz and rapid games, but as I am not playing this in correspondence anymore - I stopped hiding it and for about last 3-4 years I play it on lichess and other online platforms often - so it got popular and got stolen and named Alien gambit - I am not alien - I am Vairis from Latvia and I play it for over 20 years!
That shelter you built on c7 is a little airy and I doubt it would sustain much of a storm but with all the pieces gone is should be a safe haven for you.
As a parttime carokann player, people have been playing this exactly with these lines and ideas for ages on constant basis in online chess. Obviously, highly dubious knight sacking is first playful instinct any chess player has, and in blitz 50% in two knights variation go for this. Any next move is pretty much only logical move.
In the end of the video I thought that my screen is dying. I don't know if I watched this video at night, maybe I would've scared that my eyes are not seeing anything 🥲
