In this video, I'm showing you guys a BUDGET FRIENDLY vegan grocery guide/haul. I used to do these very frequently when I lived in London but I came back to Canada and I haven't done as many of these giant hauls (I just buy little things as I need them now). But I recently moved to a new place so I thought it'd be a good idea to do a big haul and why not buy some staples and show you guys!
This is a great guide for those of you that are wondering what sort of food you can buy from the grocery store, you can also hear some of my tips on navigating through the ingredients list :)

You can leave the peel on, but I dont recommend it. Also if you want banana slices, freeze them separated on a cookie sheet first. Otherwise they clump together. But if you dont mind that, go for it. I'm too lazy to freeze separately first. Haha.
In addition to smoothies, you can make a pretty awesome vegan banana ice cream. :)

Hi, i used to have US$400 food budget but since i cut down my animal protein by 95% my food budget’s gone down to $200. It’s the meat, eggs & milk that are pricey where i live. Sometimes i can even live on $100 a month when i’m just too lazy to go to the store. I simply go to a traditional market down the street for veggies, tofu & tempeh. Then simply cook them in the ways i love to eat them minus the animal protein & oil. Those chinese broccolis are awesome stir fried w/ lots of garlic & doenjang if you have it. I lost a lot of weight 5 yrs ago before i got my tongue cancer eating mostly veggies. But my drinking was a bit out of control and w/ age come cancer. Age & booze just don’t mix. So now 3 yrs after i had my cancer treatment and 3 months 95% oil free vegan, i’m healthier than i ever been. Keep up the good work, Rose. I’m looking forward to more recipes.

For those on a budget, consider that in the U.S., with the equivalent of the groceries being $85, that this amount is what you might pay for a couple going to dinner twice, or a single person, around 5-6 times, (including tip) This food should last one person almost a month, it would seem. That would be 70-90 meals. And in Florida, where I live, there is no food tax unless you eat out.

I was plant based for a whole month a while ago and I felt amazing but I couldn’t keep it up. I’m slowly working back towards a plant based diet now. There is a learning curve when you change your diet. I find having some pre-cooked brown rice, quinoa, etc in the fridge helps. Cutting your veggies and fruit up so they are ready to go helps too. Having an instant pot or pressure cooker helps save time, but canned beans and sauces are a life saver if you are short on time.

I'm not vegan, but I eat mostly plant-based without even thinking about it because it's the cheapest. I spend around 85€ (95$) a month for groceries, including hygiene and cleaning products, and cat food. Where I live a pack of 1kg (2lbs) of rice is about 1.30€ (1.50$) and it makes about 8 to 10 portions of rice depending on how hungry I am. Pasta is even cheaper. A big can of beans will usually last me 4 to 5 meals for less than 1€. The most expensive are fruits and veggies but if you buy in season it's usually cheaper (and more tasty).

I spend less than 100 a month for food/drinks in general. But for me potatoes are the biggest staple (lots of nutrients & cheap & can be stored pretty long) and it's just noodles or rice if I am lazy. Beans/Lentils/Seeds are definitely good as well and smoked tofu every other meal. Other than that I am a big fan of basically all local vegetables and fruits.
To eat vegan for less money you basically just have to avoid expensive fruits like berries in general or exotic fruits and try to be very limited with processed foods. Also stick to tap water, maybe buy some tea/coffee to go with it but not beverages. And obviously cook at home and avoid eating out.
This makes it more special if you ever treat yourself to go out to a restaurant or something.

      @@maryroberts4095 quite the opposite tbh.
like someone said below it's probably because you had meat-gut and the vegetables were pushing the crap out of ur body that's what smelled so bad.
Not really joking about this but once you've been vegan for a while your farts don't tend to smell like anything. I remember when i ate meat and it's a whole different fucking world literally as a teenager every fart i made smelled like farts.
It's like something is really wrong with that meat dude. I can't really explain it. I mean you think farts ''should'' smell like rotten eggs or something, but really that's just because you choose to eat things that make your insides smell like crap lmfao.
You all think it's normal to have smelly farts but in reality, it's not! So many vegans mention how much better their digestive system has become after being vegan for a while. I'm talking about personal conversations with people who have told me that their farts smell less too.
Bit of a weird conversation to have tbh but you brought it up so i'm assuming you wanted to know the reality of the situation, if i had to guesstimate a percentage for you, i would tell you that since i have been vegan, literally my farts smell at least something like 95% less. Literally 95 in 100 farts that i make since i've been vegan have literally smelled like fucking air.
If you want to test this in a laboratory or something be my guest, you can sniff my farts if you want to, and you'll have scientific proof that the large majority of farts that come out of my butthole do not even smell.
You could even turn this into a double blind study of about 1000 volunteers, what a job that would be, sitting on a chair having people fart in your face so you can analize wether vegan or meat eater farts smell worse.
You would think the answer would be obvious tho tbh.

Mud Sock Girl Hi! Just wanted to add in another opinion here, hope you don’t mind! Xx I was vegan for a while (well vegetarian and transitioned to vegan) but now I’m neither. Honestly, I hate it. I felt so much better while eating vegan, both physically and mentally. I just currently live with my family right now and they’re very judgmental when it comes to what I eat and I’ve given in to just going with what my family wants to save myself the heartache of them judging me harshly every single day. I want to transition back into a vegan diet, and I wholeheartedly plan on doing so once I move out on my own. So, if there’s anyone reading this who can relate to what I’m saying and going through, it’s going to be okay. I know it sucks not being vegan right now, but you’ll be able to one day and it will be okay. You’ll get there, you’ll be in a place where you can eat how you want safely and without worry. Hang in there. It’s okay to not be 100% vegan yet. Do anything you can to cut down on your meat and dairy yourself but don’t put yourself in a situation that will bring yourself pain, emotional or otherwise. You’ll get there. ❤️

      Hi there,
I would encourage to adopt a well-planned, organic, unrefined and untempered with vegan diet (consuming raw plant foods where possible so as not to denature or destroy the life-forces and enzymatic activities beneficial to the human system. If disagreeing on this matter, please take some steamed carrots, plant them and see if they will grow; if not, it is because they are 'dead' plant food that cannot benefit one's 'living' cells) consisting of organic fruits, vegetables, legumes, nuts, seeds and whole grains is the best diet to provide mankind with ultimate health and longevity. I do not even see a reason to use pharmaceutical supplements e.g Vitamin D is obtainable from organic chestnut mushrooms (UV exposed) and sun-dried mushrooms with the exception of the body's ability to make it (and store it for future use) when exposed to the sun; Zinc from organic cashew nuts; potassium and magnesium from organic bananas; Omega 3 Fatty Acids (beneficial for the brain) from organic walnuts and pecans (looks like the brain and targets it).
Please avoid factory produced meat alternatives whose chief ingredient can be 'soy' and may contain preservatives as well as additives (e.g Vinegar, a corrosive agent). Food toxicity and nutrient deficiency (e.g white bread, white rice and white sugar) are a deadly combination as one is hindering the body's building materials needed to action healing whilst at the same time taxing the system with more toxic stuff, thus bringing about disease and possibly even an early death.
      Best wishes
      💙💙💙

Gailan is one of my fave Asian veg (and I love bok choy, too). I just trim the stems, remove any questionable leaves, rinse, and then put in a pan with a tiny spritz of oil and cook over high heat so they get a little char here and there. At the end I turn down the heat and add a little garlic and soy and deglaze with water. Super easy and just takes a few min!

Thanks Rose for the awesome shopping haul. Great tips and excellent examples. Did you forget the oats? I missed them if you had some. Definitely don't forget oats as a staple to have in the house.
Noodles are life!! I can't wait til I reach my health goal and allow them back into my diet. I currently eat a whole plant food diet sos-free. Once I reach my goal, I will have a big bowl of noodles (not yet chosen which type yet and the sauce--there are so many awesome choices to pick from). Decisions :) if only they were this hard. Please make more noodle recipe videos, they are so good :)
Another tip for the those new to eating plant-based : for the tofu--drain it and you can freeze it (plus freezing makes the texture better). I hated tofu when I first tried and I still do unless it is frozen first. I was so scared because all the vegans on YT were having tofu recipes videos and everyone seemed to love it so much. I thought I'd done something wrong or maybe I would have to surrender my vegan card--JK lol. Maybe you could do another video on freezing and thawing it to improve the texture, it really is squishy. I am sure those who are new here would like it. Just my suggestion. Loved the video and thx again :)
