    Our local store just had a good sale on veggies and beans. They were 50 cents each. I literally haven't seen that price in years. So, I bought like 20 cans of green beans, 12 of corn, and 8 of each kind of bean they had. It took up so much room in my pantry. But the price was too great to pass up

    For canned beans, sometimes it’s cheaper to get them in bulk at Costco, same with bread, wraps, cuz you can even throw the carbs in the freezer if you don’t use them right away.
    Don’t know if you have a Costco near you, worth the investigation. 😊

    I can say being vegan is not expensive. I live in a mixed house hold. I'm vegan, my daughters are vegetarian and my son and husband eat everything and when I look at our receipts, the most expensive items are the cheese and things like that.

    • @britth2236
      @britth2236 17 днів тому

      It's so difficult with a blended house like that. I'm vegan my husband is not and our eats eat whatever and I swear when scanning groceries besides diapers that is when thing go up milk, cheese, meat etc. We are super lucy to have a discount grocery store near us the sells dented or error stuff and they have good deals but still.

    I buy a lot of frozen vegetables, they keep forever in the freezer! I also buy tofu in the triple bricks (usually 5.99$ cad ) and freeze them. Some of my other staples like TVP, quinoa, dried beans, nutritional yeast, grains and nuts (mostly raw cashews to make faux mozarella) etc. I get at Bulk Barn. 🙂

    I was recently able to bump my monthly grocery budget from 10 US dollars to 20 US dollars. I basically just supplement whatever I can't get out of the blessing boxes that are around town or what people happened to just give me. I have a lot of dietary restrictions for health reasons as well as being plant-based. It takes work but being plant-based on an extremely low budget is definitely doable. Also I find it pretty wild how the cost of tofu ranges greatly from one store to the next. I pay under $2 for it but at places that are supposed to be cheap places to shop like Walmart it costs well over $3. So weird

    My vegetarian grocery haul can be a bit more expensive because I don’t do gluten, refined seed oils (cottonseed, sunflower, canola,etc) or refined sugars either.
    I have to spend a bit more for gluten free/vegan pasta, but I can usually make the bread and wraps at home.
    Which grocery store did you shop at for this haul?
    I’m in Ontario, about an hour outside of Toronto.

    I like watching these videos because it gives me an idea of what other people are paying for the groceries also. I just bought several cans of beans for .79 cents each, that's the best I've seen for awhile. I try to buy my tofu when it is on sale and freeze some and keep a few out to use during the week, they last a long time that way and I don't have to worry about running out, it also helps the budget. I tried cooking dried beans but can't quite get the cooking time down right and they just don't turn out.

    Beans are cheap, particularly dried, but even canned beans cost less than meat, as does tofu, tempeh, and brown rice. Fresh produce is expensive for sure, and some sauces and marinades can be, but there are alternatives. Vegan cheese and yogurt is pricey, and I use gluten free products which are also expensive. The general cost of food is much higher than it has been in the past, but overall, veg food has always been cheaper!

    Hey Rose! Love watching your videos as always! I have a comment/question though about the plant-based bundle…shouldn’t all the creators in the bundle be plant-based or vegan? I see Simply Quinoa in the lineup and she is not…she posts eggs, meat, fish, etc. It’s a turn off for me and a deterrent to getting the bundle. Just wondered if the organizers knew she reverted back to eating animal products within the last year or so? She made a whole “why I’m no longer vegan” video…

    • @CheapLazyVegan
      @CheapLazyVegan  6 місяців тому

      Hi there, unfortunately I don't control who's participating in the bundle or not! And if it makes you feel better, if you purchase the bundle through my link, it won't financially benefit anyone else that's part of the bundle other than the bundle creators who put it together. So if there's creators you may not be a fan of, it won't really affect them in anyway if you purchase to someone else's link.

    Thank you for making this video. I get super annoyed when people tell me that a vegan diet is "privileged" because they are in under the impression that it's crazy expensive. A whole food plant based diet is referred to as a peasant diet for a reason. Our staple foods are the cheapest foods on earth and a privileged diet is the diet that royalty ate for centuries. Meat, dairy and eggs. Those foods were too expensive for the peasants who then went on to be healthier as a result of what they ate.

    The problem is when you're leaving home to go to work everyday and rating at work and not cooking at home everyday, veganism isn't a very convenient diet.

      I go to work, bring my lunch and cook my other meals every day. I've been vegan for years and I haven't found that it takes longer to cook vegan than it took me to cook when was an omnivore. 😉

      definitely takes more work than the average diet, but I used to do meal preps when I went to the office which made it easy!

      Just wanted to add, when I wasn’t vegan and not meal prepping and cooking everyday….that wasn’t convenient either.
      It’s all about planning, time management.
