This video is good, but it's even better to meet and talk to vegans in your area if they exist and are organizing vegan meet and greats, potlucks, etc. They'll probably know where you can get good deals on stuff locally. If that isn't happening there might be an animal rights org active in your area that you can volunteer for and they'll probably be somewhat interested in chatting a bit particularly if it's a slow day.

If you are trying to eat healthy food on a budget I recommend carrots and cabbage. Purple cabbage is especially healthy. Frozen brocolli is much more economical than fresh brocolli where I live it's just as nutritious as fresh.

If not more, since it's usually frozen at peak freshness and stays fresh until you eat it. No need to worry about it going bad, either.

For mexican rice, i love to do this at maximum laziness: in the rice cooker. Put rice in with appropriate amount of water, add Better than Boullian, seasonings, herbs, cans of veggies(tomatoes, black beans, corn, whatever) and then start the rice cooker. Makes easy burrito filling too for quick burritos to freeze for quick work lunches when you have nothing made to take with. I microwave for 90 sec, flip, 90 sec, flip back and 90 sec and its done!

Thanks for sharing the same feeling the rest of us are feeling with grocery shopping. Definitely laughed a lot at your outrage during the grocery shopping. Totally feel the same way. It’s $7 for a bag of chips at the gas stations now!!!! What!??? And then at the regular grocery stores it’s $4 which is what gas station prices used to be. Getting so outrageous! Obviously chips aren’t a necessity but I love me some chips 😂

I've also noticed unhealthy food is usually cheaper than the fruits and vegetables. $9 for a bag of 4-5 oranges? $10 for a container of strawberries or a bag of lettuce 🙄 I've been getting the $1.47 or $1.67 chips at superstore/walmart (store brands) because I won't pay the stupidly expensive prices for the name brands. And even the cheap ones are on the way out even though I love them because I'm sick of the price gouging of everything.

Love sunrise. Moved from mt pleasant to south Van so it's harder to get to but miss it (though can be rough to go through the area for some people, I'm comfortable there).😊

I would love to watch more videos like this, cheap, low calorie density, filling. I’m iffy about rice though. I’ll be hungry soon.

The lemons I usually get are either 3 or 4 for a dollar, but they’re the smaller ones. The larger ones do cost more, & I’ve had the same thing happen with both sizes, the thick peeling. Rinds? The outside.

and I thought prices were insane in the US.
I grow a lot of our food, I grow two types of tomatoes, cilantro, zucchini, Lions Mane, King Oyster, Shiitake mushrooms, various sprouts, i buy bulk quantity of dried pinto, navy beans and chickpeas and I buy 40# bags of wheat berries and try to keep 400# on hand stored up. I can make a very nice loaf of killer organic whole wheat bread for about $1.50.
The 8oz of hummus you got for $4 cost me about .90cents.
It has become almost necessary now to do it this way, but its WAY better grinding your own wheat and growing your own tomatoes and mushrooms anyway.
I am going to make the Hummus pasta and the tofu scramble burritos this week for sure.

For budgeting buy dry beans not canned beans they are exponentially cheaper and just need to sit in water overnight and then cook for a few hours. Almost completely hands off and you get 5-8 times as much food for the price.

I gasp at the cost of groceries in the eastern area of the US. You would think because of it being the summer growing season produce wpuld be cheaper but it's not plus the crops are looking pretty bad and don't taste as good any more. There are alot of items I won't buy anymore and if others do the same maybe prices will go down.
