I think Rick summed it up very well: once you realize the showrunners/writers don't care about their story anymore, why should we? Let's hope they care just a little bit more about their new Star Wars project otherwise we as Star Wars fans are utterly fucked.

I enjoyed season 8 and the Finale. It’s deeply misunderstood. For example Jamie Lannister saying “I’ve never cared much for people” is the typical thing he would say BUT he would always actually do the opposite and save millions always!
Jamie has a complex of not wanting to show his good side, he cannot forgive himself for the bad things he has done but he always ends doing good deeds.
This is why the real reason he killed the mad king was his secret till he told it to Brienne

Cersei awkwardly shuffling past Gregor and Sandor after Qyburn gets murdered is by far the funniest scene of the entire season, and it probably wasn't even intentional, but it's just so casually awkward and hilarious lol.

The show would've benefited from Faegon. Cersei's valonqar ending and Dany's ending were too similar so I guess they ended up changing Cersei's ending. Cersei arc after season 6 was a whole lot of nothing. Idk in my opinion it would've been more interesting that meanwhilst Dany and Jon are defeating the WWs, Cersei is under siege by Faegon and his forces. It would've put Storm's End on the board. Maybe we couldve known what was the general sentiment of the commonfolk and the lords in regards to the claims of each of the candidates. The major houses and their castles wouldn't have been empty seats like they were portrayed in the show. We would've cared about the commonfolk when the time came and Dany fucked them all up.

yeah I never understood that part! Jamie killed the mad king to protect the people of kings landing (yes his dad too). There goes that amazing plot point and character development. • @fancyform
      @fancyform 5 років тому +4

@@cynthia5914 Maybe I'm reading to much between the lines here or it's wishful thinking on my part, as has been a frequent thing this whole season.
But I've known myself to say plenty of things I don't mean, think is true and act like I don't care what happens to others or myself when I've been really bitter, depressed and given up hope. This is, from my perspective, such a moment for Jaime. The words that comes out of his mouth are nothing but a shield for his inner conflicts. Jaime cares deep down, he has a good heart. Given the chance, he would've done a "Kingslayer" again in a heartbeat.
But he can't be that man and still be compatible with Cersei and there's no way to change her mind about giving up the throne (she was still in denial when the dragon began burning the city). Jaime's love for Cersei is strong enough to make him stop caring about who he is and who he can be so long as he gets to be by her side. He really get's the short end of the stick. Tyrion offers him the chance at both though, by releasing him, convince her to surrender, or ring the bells himself and flee with her.
Tyrion offered Cersei pretty much the same deal. Give up the throne, you or your child don't have to die. But she didn't take it. I wonder if she could have been less of a monster away from the politics and daggers of Kingslanding. Jaime would probably be satisfied with living a much less comfortable life as long as they got to be together.

    • @cynthia5914
      @cynthia5914 5 років тому

@Jonas Sundling I don’t think it’s wishful thinking and I would love for that to be true. Jamie has always been a complicated character which is why so many people loved him. I think he can be impulsive and say things he doesn’t mean, and if that is the case in that scene then I can accept it. But I do have to say it came across the wrong way ( at least for me) and it seemed very abrupt.
This is probably an issue where the writing wasn’t enough to portray the fact that Jamie doesn’t mean what he says ( the acting was great no issue there ). Also I know that it is definitely easier to understand a character through the books since you have access to their thoughts. But even a disbelieving stare from Tyrion could have been enough to suggest to the audience that Jamie does actually care. It just seemed ( maybe not intentionally) that they just disregarded Jamie’s arc. Yeah it was inevitable but it seemed shocking because it was shocking ...since there was not enough build up to her torching the city.
I suspect that they tried to shoehorn in the idea that Dany was growing too power hungry and uncontrollable ( not listening to her advisors) but since it was only very prominent in this season it seemed really random. If they had started like in season 5 or 6 to show small acts of dany being uncontrollable to the raise concern, then the bells scene would feel more rewarding.

Daenerys' turn to the Targaryen madness was so fast. And i get it, people didn't like her, Jon was hailed as a hero in their eyes, and she lost almost all of her most loyal advisers in a short amount of time, but this really was all too fast. I like to think that when Dany heard the bells, she was reminded of Tyrion. He's the one that told her that bells meant they'd surrender (which she doesn't know about so have to believe him about it). By that time, she probably already knew Tyrion had freed Jaime and thus betrayed her. So at that point she's probably thinking.. these bells mean nothing, it's a trap by the Lannisters that Tyrion arranged with his brother and sister. I think that's why she elected to destroy not only the Lannister army (found within the city) but all those that followed them and elected to bunker down next to them. She kept saying how Cersei was counting on her not attacking innocents so that this way, she could stay in the red keep forever. So she decided to not let her enemies win by using human shields (which again she saw as having a choice to leave the Lannisters). To her defense, the slaves rebelled against their masters.. these weren't even slave.. they were free people and still elected to stand by Cersei.. I think that's why she decided to burn it all. Also, from her vantage point, she probably didn't realize the atrocity of it all. I.e. kind of like drone operators dropping bombs on buildings. Probably made it easier for her to not second guess herself while doing it.

Still, even if they kept things as they were and just didn't rush seasons 7 and 8 GoT would still be highly regarded by the general audience. Even if many of us voiced a shift in writing post-season 4 and complained about the prevalence of fanservice the general audience didn't mind, and neither did the critics on Rotten Tomatoes. If D&D hadn't decided to rush to get to their Star Wars trilogy, which has been delayed anyway, or even passed it down to other showrunners, who would no doubt leapt at the opportunity, season 8 would probably be adored and people like Rick and myself would still just be disregarded as haters.

Pretty much giving himself the title and position of King without the authority of one, but if he personally installs one himself...well then ☻ Even his diction "Power resides where men believe it resides", " you know very well that my allegiance has always been to the people" very clever choice of words. And for some reason he now believes in Jon despite not knowing him personally nor attempted to verify the accuracy of the journals. I guess he apparently was that desperate to ditch Dany despite all his hard work and sacrifice over the last 10+ years propping her to the throne. *Whaaaaat! a young male naive Targaryen who already has northern support and doesn't burn his enemies but stabs them instead? must be my lucky day hold up Jean boy, wanna TrEasON today?* I think it's to assume that he would've betrayed Jon the moment a "better" alternative came along. I’m alright with what we got, but what I think would’ve made a little more sense while keeping most of everything the same would be this:
Bells toll, Daenerys flies Drogon to the Red Keep, and JUST the Red Keep. She kills the thousands of civilians inside it directly by dragonfire. Everything in the Red Keep (Cleganebowl, Jaime & Cersei death) can stay the same. In the process of torching the Red Keep, the dragonfire accidentally sets off a nearby cache of the Mad King’s wildfire, a chain reaction starts, and THATS how most of King’s Landing gets torched. That can also be how Arya survives the destruction: she heard earlier that the Sept was blown up, and she comes up with the plan to hide in the Sept ruins until it’s over because that wildfire cache was already depleted. Later, when confronted with her actions, Dany says something along the lines of “I’m sorry but tough shit, collateral damage and all that.”

Wow The Mountain sure wanted to kill the Hound, he even killed Qyburn to get to him.
Sure makes you wonder why he didn't react like this last season in the Dragon Pit. But I guess 2 years is a long time and theres no record of what happened that they could refer back to

Dany did what she needed to do. Kings Landing was a cesspool. Lady Olenna was right.
Sucks that Jon, Tyrion and the North used Dany and her armies, got two dragons killed and then betrayed her.
    And useless Sansa becomes queen?

Rick, Vince McMahon does NOT WRITE the WWE TV shows. It's currently Stephanie's team of writers, and Vince gives final approval. He never wrote the shows in the '90s either. First it was Prichard; then he was replaced by Russo as Head Writer in December '97 through til Sept '99. Russo (& Ferrara) would start with the blank sheet of paper, then format the entire show. Vince M would just change a couple of bits. He was way too busy with the running of the company to actually write the show and do creative. Although he likes people to think he did! Especially during the most successful period, stats-wise - Vince Russo's Attitude Era was entirely written and formatted by Russo.

The problem with this season was time management. A lot of characters already had their plot line completed whilst Dany was still "too sane". In the books u can see more how she is more unhinged... the whole "My destiny is to sit on the Iron Throne". "I am the savior". "*I am* the mother, the queen, the ruler, it is my destiny". Is not really a sanest line of thought...

In Danys head, especially after everything she’s suffered, why does Kings Landing deserve mercy? The bells were not going to stop her. I see Dany as a fallen hero. Not necessarily a villain. A fallen hero who succumbed to the harsh world around her. A fallen hero is when, in movies and tv, when a main character who fights against evil slowly becomes the very thing they wish to destroy until they are worse than the others. For me, Dany was always mad, it’s just that hers took a slow toll and she tried to stop it; until she couldn’t take it no more and snapped.

She sees the Red Keep, which is to her, the home that her family built when they first came over to this country 300 years ago. It's in that moment, on the walls of King's Landing where she's looking at that symbol of everything that was taken from her, when she makes the decision to make it personal.

Dany's actions have always carried a theme of "unintended consequences". She constantly does things that feel right, and are emotionally satisfying, but ultimately make the situation worse.
    Examples:
    • Early in the series, she offers water to a condemned man, despite Jorah's advice. If the man had actually accepted the water, her actions would've greatly prolonged his suffering.
    • She frees Astapor and instates three wise men to rule as a council before she leaves. They're overthrown by a butcher named Cleon who executes the council and begins training a new generation of Unsullied--this time using highborn boys. The Wise Masters then enslave everyone again.
    • She frees Yunkai, but then simply leaves...and every free man is enslaved by the Wise Masters once she's gone.
    • She crucifies the Great Masters of Meereen in retribution of their crucifixion of over 100 children, only to later realize that some of the men she crucified had actually tried to *stop* their peers.
So it would've been perfectly in keeping with her character to have her react rashly at King's Landing, but for everything to go tits-up as a result. One possibility for this could be: she burns the place where Cersei is hiding, but accidentally ignites the hidden caches of Wildfire beneath the city, and accidentally razes all of King's Landing as a result. Afterward, she'd have to pretend that this was an intentional message being sent, and lean into the concept of ruling by fear.
But what we got in the show was entirely out of character for her; she has never wanted to kill innocent children. Ever. And I think we never see Dany up-close during her genocide run of King's Landing because the writers couldn't create any believable mental state for the actress to portray during that time; this is reinforced by the fact that Dany is enraged right *before* the attack, but seems pretty cheerful about it when she discusses it with Jon afterward.

"A lot of people are going to complain about the writing and the story of the show, and the people who worked very hard (on set design, etc) are gonna feel lesser because of that."
Eric, I like you man but this is nonsensical and doesn't correlate. Most of who hated this final season weren't complaining about set design, costume, sound or acting. Obviously there are some fringe lunitacs who were, but they were the minority. Most who hated it did so primarily because the story and character work were so bad.
And what are great visuals without competent story? Sounds like a Michael Bay film to me. Back during season 1 of GOT, when they had little following and a small budget, people fell in love with the story and the characters. That's the sole reason why GOT became the massive phenomenon it did. Heck, back in S1 they didn't even have the budget to film a big battle, and more and more people tuned it to watch the great story being told and the characters they love do their thing.
So pardon upset viewers if they can't get excited and mindlessly applaud the visuals in S8. It's little solace when the story makes no sense and the characters we fell in love with aren't the same people anymore.

The Wheel of Time book series is done. The writers can not deviate too much from the story.
Hopefully Amazon will fund it properly so the visual quality surpasses GoT.

Big difference ? Rhaegal and Drogon were flying much farther then. And all it took was 3 bolts. Here one dragon, close as you like, 50 bolts and one can't hit the target. Yeah we are supposed to believe that.
