- When a string of brutal murders terrorizes London, it doesn't take long for legendary detective Sherlock Holmes (Robert Downey Jr.) and his crime-solving partner, Dr. Watson (Jude Law), to find the killer, Lord Blackwood (Mark Strong). A devotee of the dark arts, Blackwood has a bigger scheme in mind, and his execution plays right into his plans. The game is afoot when Blackwood seems to rise from the grave, plunging Holmes and Watson into the world of the occult and strange technologies.
Sherlock Holmes (2009) starring Robert Downey Jr., Jude Law and Mark Strong
Directed by Guy Ritchie

The Robert Downey Jr Sherlock Holmes movies were very well received, but the timing was really bad because the Iron Man movies were far more successful. It sucks for fans of the Sherlock Holmes movies, but financially makes sense for Downey to go with Iron Man instead of Holmes. At least we got a second Holmes movie out of it before he went full time with Iron Man.
Ohh! I didn't realise it was all around the same time. That is a shame!
Also: this came out in 2009, and the BBC Sherlock-series launched a year later (with Cumberbatch). Now, I generally enjoy Ritchie’s work, but to me this one falls in the same category as his King Arthur-movie.
Oh, and you know Lord Blackwood from Ritchie’s RocknRolla (as Archie, with the ‘famous Archie slap’).
Watch the sequel!
Benedict plays a great Sherlock but RDJ and Guy Ritchie took the character to a whole different level.
Finally, this movie is getting the attention it deserves, it is a billion-dollar franchise already but so many people are just too dumb to understand the excellence of 2nd movie. They think gay Moriarty is better than Jarred Harris moriarty.
Bold of you to assume Jarred Harris moriarty isn't gay
Great movie. We had to watch this in English class here in the uk. It was to observe the writing and how sherlock thinks. Very interesting stuff.
That's not a bad day in class lol
It was great yeah. Haha.
We saw it in the cinema as well! For 'English lit', thought it was just my school!
The sequel is just as good; well worth watching.
To me Jeremy Brett will always be the best Sherlock Holmes. He starred in a British-made TV show, "The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes" (produced by Granada Television) from 1984-1994. Although, in those 10 years there were only 41 episodes total. You can find many of them for free on UA-cam, or you can stream them. He was the epitome of Holmes IMO.
Agreed
'Discombobulate.' 😄
Have you seen the cat video on UA-cam with that title? It's funny and worth a watch.
Discomfuckingbobulate
About the fighting, I'm pretty sure the original Sherlock Holmes was written as a champion boxer in college so this movie just updates that original idea.
Downey is a Wing Chun martial artist, and he had a huge influence on the choreography for the fights. As a practitioner myself I can see the style plain as day, the vertical fist straight punch and pretty much every hand position. It's a very street/self defense style that's close to boxing, but dirtier with no rules or restriction as it's not a sport. Perfect for Sherlock.
If accents is what you’re after from RDJ…. Tropic Thunder.
I actually forgot about that one! Good call.
Aussie movie The Castle 👌
Absolutely, yes please. 😄
This ones a lot of fun. The sequel is not as good though the final confrontation is incredible.
Good to know!
The sequel is fine a good watch. Guy Ritchie doesn't often disappoint. Though this film is better than the first!
What are you talking about? The second one is even better!
@@ThomasAnomolus it's just more of the same it didn't really do anything different. I find the first movie just did it better.

Great version of Sherlock. The sequel is really good. I would say Benedict and RDJ are the best at this role. Each a little different but both equally entertaining.
I keep praying for them to turn this into a trilogy. There was supposed to be a third one, but it got stuck in development hell or something. I don't think it's happening. Both of these Sherlock movies are like comfort movies for me, I can and have watched them multiple times.
I'm waiting on a 3rd one too... google says that they working on it, we just don't know the day of release, but it takes way too long... they tried to release it in 2021 but delayed it due to COVID-19. So I don't know when that comes out... the movie is a huge success, I see why not making it.. it would be silly not to make it. I mean, you know that film makers releasing the trilogies when movie is a huge success, even when they have a little doubt that a 3rd will be just as successful as first and two. But Sherlock sequel are both successful and people want a 3rd portion.. so it's a guaranty for success. Even if actors love to move on to other projects... who says no to successful demands??? Just me thinking...
Another great Guy Ritchie movie, Wrath of Man. 😀
A rollicking yarn told with inimitable flair by Guy Ritchie, be sure to follow up with the sequel!
Aussie movie “wake in fright” 1970s version one of Australia’s best. Most alcohol consumed in its making of any movie for something different, no good reason except it’s good.😊
They were drinking real alcohol while filming? Gotta love the 70s lol
@@chrissiereacts It is said that one of the actors Chips Raffety when the director said “you can’t keep that up all day” said “you worry about directing I worry about the drinking”. Easy to believe Chips did like a drink.
I see you've got the original version! After Jared Harris was cast as Moriarty they replaced part 1 moriartys voice on the streaming versions of this movie
Best Sherlock Holmes. RDJ kills it.
These are honestly the most intelligent movies I've seen, especially the sequel
which makes it even more flabbergasting why it gets such MEDIOCRE REVIEWS
The second, not only the best one but one of the most legendary films I have ever graced my eyes on and always find new things about it ever since I first watched it, which was 8 YEARS AGO, somehow get barely acceptable scores (Rotten Tomatoes wa the most horrendous since it was once in the 50s, which it was bombed up to 60 but still)
It makes me glad to see just how many fans there were when it came out and how it keeps getting more and more fans as time progresses
My brother in law has a 2 second face shot with no line just before he gets blown up… he was good friends of guy richies friend.
Rock n roller and early guy richie flick not bad… a guy Richie fan I am as lock stock is in my top 3 movies…. Gold it is. ❤
Must of been the other Sherlock movie…?
If you have never seen Young Sherlock Holmes give it a shot.
I remember seeing it in the theater. Dug it then and when I’m done watching your video I might even put it on tonight.
But this and the sequel are a good time.
I don't understand why people knock these movies. I quite enjoyed them. Particularly the second.
Chrissie if not seen I'd recommend The Limehouse Golem a brilliant Jack the Ripper style movie. Thanks for this.💓👍🇬🇧
Nobody is better than robert as sherlock
Coming up in the Sequel, we get a true standoff between Holmes and his Arch-Nemesis. Professor James Moriarty, the Napoleon Of Crime.
I really hope we get a third movie
Great movies. Love the music. Cheers, C 😎👍
Algorithm sent me and I have just watched your Lockstock reaction before this. I like the cut of your jib, you react intelligently, yet with humour. Consider me a new subscriber. Look forward to catching up with your other uploads. And please DO watch SH 2 - A Game Of Shadows. IMO, just as good as this one. 😊
It’s also worth mentioning the Cumberbatch Holmes had about four series I think.
And RDJ with an accent. You must watch Chaplain. I have a full sized poster of that one over my desk.
Good evening ma'am I hope you're well! I've never seen the movie before but also enjoy the TV series. Thank you for your reaction 😁🤘🔥
Hi Jason! It's nice to hear from you 😀 how are you?
@@chrissiereacts I've been GREAT. Have been really busy the last couple of months with work but that's over! Now it's time to relax for a while and be irresponsible. Little bit of smoke 💨 and lot of M&M's. 😏
Thank you for Paying attention and give the world a Proper Reaction video.
Unlike most unwatchable Gen-Z girls "reaction", constantly talking and making everything about themselves.
Will You watch the Second Movie ?
I think so!
Elemetary is a great TV show too. Johhny Lee Miller is an amazing Holmes, def my favourite out of them all. The Enola Holmes films on Netflix are also worth a watch as well. More enjoyable than these RDJ Sherlock ones.
Ooh, Johnny Lee Miller as Holmes?! I can get behind that!
@@chrissiereacts Lucy Liu as Watson too 🙂
Sherlock is done much better in this movie series imo. The Moffat version has very little to with the source material.
The game is a-fombobulate
😅😵💫
Never woken up in handcuffs before?! Weirdo!
Hah! Right?? 😅
sir Arthur Conan Doyal was very superstitious and into mystic things so..
