The common denominator is GRRM...
She did really great... 👍🏿
This really makes me respect Emilia Clarke as an actress. Her being able to speak MULTIPLE languages that do not exist and execute them perfectly whilst pulling off her scenes is beyond me. The scene in 08x06 when she’s giving a speech to the Dothraki and the Unsullied gave me chills. Her being able to interchange between 3 languages, Westerosi, Valyrian, and Dothraki shows how much talent she had. And the fact that she spoke all 3 FLUENTLY without pausing in 1 scene is ridiculous
It's her job
@@yourlandladysson6395 EVERYONE DOES NOT DO THEIR JOB CORRECTLY
She in an interview that she had no idea what she was saying, that she was told what to say at the beginning of the scene. She didn't learn the languages to the extent she could carry on a conversation.

I love how this guy even has the history of how these languages changed and developed over centuries. That's absolutely amazing. Including local dialects, just amazing that he created this all.
i wish the show used more of his worldbuilding, to be honest. he went beyond what was needed. you can see why he won the competition
Not to diminish his job, it's awesome, but thinking the evolution of the tongue is most often part of creating a fictional language.
I think it's part because the lore setting constraints helps the creative process, and part because language nerds are the biggest nerds you'll ever meet.
i dislike how he talks about the languages as if they have history
Also, as languages evolve through time - they become simpler. Thus, it allows the fictional linguist to create a simple language (which is functional in your universe) and you may build upon it (and its complexity) by referencing the language's history.
@@theory2480 Why? It's part of creating a language for a fantasy world because they do have history and it's almost always incredibly complicated history in fantasy.

As someone who studied Linguistics, this makes my day
Tasha Solomon what’s it like to study? I love languages and I’m passionate about learning. Been wanting to create some for my fantasy worlds but I don’t know much about it.
Tasha Solomon I'm thinking about majoring in linguistics, do you think it was worth studying, in your opinion?
Teddy Bear Tasha
Yes!! Im currently an undergrad and I love it!! It helps understand other language structures and makes it easier to learn because language has specific patterns and rules for irregular verbs. I personally love it and many linguists are polyglot. Ive studied over 5 languages and I wish to learn more.
The only downside to the degree, if you live in the states, is there isnt much of a market for linguists unless you plan to become a teacher/professor, translator, interpreter. Most other jobs like editing, copywriting, or journalism require you have an english, marketing or journalism degree. So having a second degree to back your first would help tremendously.

High Valyrian rocks. I always wondered why Emilia pronounced "iksos" as "iskos" and I love that without knowing, she got it right in Astapori Valyrian.
although the whole Iskos-Iksos inversion in Astaporian seems very much apocryphal. I mean, the dude invented the language, so I guess he is allowed to make things up on the spot!
Lou Ayneux if he inveted it on spot then props to him, because he even gave it a backstory as to why Emilia’s mistake made sense. Loved it. 😂

Everyone in the comments: "Wow, this guy invented an entire language, he must be Albert Einstein"
J.R.R. Tolkien: "Am I a joke to you?"
Edit: For those unaware, Tolkien (writer of Lord of The Rings/Hobbit fame) invented his first language at the age of 13 and went on to make around 20 languages in total that he then used for his books (he made the languages first). They included 15 seperate Elvish languages, a language of the Ents (tree people), Orcish, a language of Men, the language of the Hobbits, and of course Dwarvish, which even had its own form of sign language since the forges and mines the dwarves worked in were too loud to communicate verbally. Two of these languages, Quenya and Sindarin, are considered funtional and can easily be used conversationally, though they lack niche words. It seems like this guy is making up certain things as he goes along and I doubt Dothraki and Valyrian are anywhere near as fleshed out as Quenya and Sindarin. So with all do respect, this guy can hold Tolkien's beer.
Yeah people forgot about him! But when LOTR was out and in the limelight, there were tons of people talking about the languages.
Elvish is the OG.
Elvish was what all the coolest RPers had to learn back in my roleplaying days on forums and places like IMVU. But as far as linguistics go (I studied it during my electives) seem factitious with his explanations.
Not only Tolkien (he did a GREAT job and basically started the Conlanging) but many people have it as a hobby. I have made only one good one, but that doesn't mean I am Einstein. And there is a bog conlang community as well.
I don't want to make High Valyrian seem bad, it is really good. It is just that I am upsetten when people praise one person for making a conlang. It is not that hard people.

So Valaryian is French, Spanish, Portuguese and Italian mixed together.
sedsa097 I think in both sound and history of the language, it’s comparable to Latin. Both were languages of massive ancient empires that have since fallen, and now only dialects and related languages are spoken.
Honestly I study Latin (and I'm Italian) and it sounds more like a mix of German, Finnish and Spanish to me.
Also I think it's not that similar to Latin, as after the Roman Empire fell the language became a media for two people of different language to speak to one another (you could kind of say it was like what English is nowadays, just reserved to the rich and intellectual) and is still used by the Church
