This take disregards Jamie's actual character. Everyone is used to a redemption story where the victims forgive the person looking for redemption and then it's over, but that ignores the actual point of a redemption story is for the person to forgive themselves. While the realm and audience start to forgive Jamie, he still couldn't forgive himself. Actually makes Jamie the most interesting character in the show

I could see it happening, but it was just written and directed wrongly. @@Saphthings I agree, it was the implementation that was messed up. Quite early on in the show, Bronn had asked Jamie, "How do you see yourself dying?" and Jamie replied, "In the arms of the one I love" and so even from way back, the entire framework of his arc was already being set up. But it was how they wrapped up the entire thing that, to me, was lacking -- just like how it is with the rest of the multiple other storylines.

@@bmaxime8771 so you’re forgetting Jon also broke the Night’s Watch vows?
lets break it down real simple:
      1. both causes ensure survival, if not for Jon, then for people he took responsibility of when he became the king in the North. why does he act different in similar circumstances?
      2. he swore an oath to the Night’s Watch, and yet broke that oath, he layed with Ygritte. he quit the Night’s Watch, breaking another part of the oath (although that is, I admit, is questionable, since he died, but still - if Jon is that honorable as you think he is, he should have rejected the title of a king in the North)
      3. Cercei expected him to simply stay out of the conflict, not fight against Daenerys, so he should have been able to think it through as a reasonable offer
also, Jon did not say he wanted to get back to the Night’s Watch neither to Mance, nor to Ygritte or others. He said he wanted to fight for the side that fights for the living, if we are quoting, meaning that he pledged himself to Mance’s cause.

That’s vicious. Watching the Dorthaki horse lords all burn to death in front of her as she stood in the the room unable to burn until the doors fell in Vaes Dathak. Crucifying the masters without knowing the dynamics of who was responsible and who wasn’t. Again, showing she didn’t understand the culture of the place she’d come to just like when she comes to Westeros. There are so many more instances.

"I've always hated the bells. They ring for horror."
    -Varys
Edit: I'm glad you recognized that there were hints of what Dany was capable of since I think that's something a lot of people tend to either forget or ignore about her. She is and has always been capable of doing horrible things but, until recently, those horrible things were done to horrible people. She's also not good at dealing with loss.
When she lost Drogo and her child, she had the witch who was responsible burned alive. When she was betrayed in Qarth and, for a time, lost her dragons, she burned the one who took her dragons and locked the two betrayers in a vault to starve to death. She killed and burned many slavers in Slaver's Bay and even crucified the ones in Meereen. Later, when the sons of the Harpy killed Barristan, she forced the head members from each of Meereen's royal families to face her dragons until said dragons burned and devoured one of them.
As soon as she arrived in Westeros, things started going downhill for her fast. She quickly lost all of her allies there and just about accused Tyrion of treason when he still suggested they continue with a siege. She then wanted to abandon all subtlety and fully unleash her dragons despite knowing what the cost would be. She did hold back by using only one against the Lannister forces, but then used terror to force them to submit to her after burning Tarly and his son alive. Soon after she suffered one of her greatest losses when the Night King killed one of her dragons.
Now, in this final season, she's lost Jorah, her most loyal knight and the one who's followed her longer than any of the others, another one of her dragons, who she views as her children, Missandei, her last real friend who was once again chained in the final moments of her life, Jon Snow, while he still remains loyal to her has closed his heart to her after realizing the two are family, and Varys, who abandoned her after realizing she was a lost cause.

Bread crumbs were sprinkled around the show that started with "When a Targaryen is born, a coin is flipped." The audience wanted to believe otherwise, but Dany lost the flip. All it took was enough trauma and loss to reveal it.

      @nyxqueen5417 5 місяців тому +11

Your putting no context into that though. She burned the witch who poisoned her husband and sacrificed her unborn child's life. She locked up the man who tried to sell her to the warlocks inside the vault of wealth he promised her and didn't have along with the handmaiden that betrayed her. She burned the warlock who was trying to enslave her and her dragons to power themselves. She crucified Slave Masters because they had crucified over a hundred slave children on her walk to Mereen. She executed two men who refused to submit to her, which is something many kings and rulers and conquerors have done. Her actions are not outside the actions that other rulers have taken.
Also her entire time spent in Westeros has been a travesty honestly and it mostly comes down to horrible decisions and ideas from her advisors. Varys at one point starts trying to poison her for... reasons? Tyrion's advice and suggestions have been generally dreadful. In helping Jon the foolish she lost a dragon. The death of her second dragon by the Greyjoys was horrible writing. She should have honestly moved directly to Kings Landing once she hit land. Tyrion knows the secret passage ways through the castle, that could've snuck in soldier. But no, he hamstrung her and her efforts.

This might be my favorite episode of the show. Like, I understand why it was so disliked at first. It truly hurts to see our heroes fall short of our expectations but that feels so realistic to me. I also love the way this episode reframes the entire conflict. All of a sudden, our heroes are the villains, and the villains are victims. It feels like the classic subversion that this show does so well. I also like how Jon's parentage is used not to save the world but to doom it. In any other traditional fantasy, the "secret prince who saves the world" trope would leas to a happy ending. In Game of Thrones it leads to death and destruction.

She actually didn't get to read the final script. They changed it on her and she didn't find out until the premiere, she said. The writers also said they kept her from seeing the new storyboards, too. In the original script, Dany only burned the solders which accidentally set off the wildfire underneath the city, left over from the Mad King, which killed the innocents. The VFX artists had to go in last minute, change all the green to dragon fire, and also add in the dragon flying around. It's why she doesn't go directly to the Red Keep and also why there are never any shots of Dany flying on the dragon while she's burning the city. She also said in an interview that at the time, she was confused as to why Kit was playing Jon as being so angry with her in the last episode because she was still playing it as Dany setting the wildfire off unintentionally. Very weird last minute choices by the creators.

She never did a single thing wrong, and THATS the tragedy of GoT. The characters who did it all right are the ones who lose in the end. Ned lost his head, Robb lost everything, Dany went mad, Jon sent back into exile. Thats the whole point of the show imo, there is no pretty happy ever after. Good people lose and die and the ones who hid behind them wind up winning. This episode isnt trying to show you Daenerys is bad, its showing you no one good ever wins in this story. It's very indicative that after 8 seasons of this show carefully showing us how not every 'good guy' is good and not every 'bad guy' is bad, people still have the gall to cheer at the sight of conscripted soldiers being burned alive whose only crime was being an adult male at the wrong time and place and defending their city from a foreign invader.
'Oh, it's soldiers, they're supposed to die.'
Oh, okay! I guess that means reveling in their death and having no empathy whatsoever is the completely appropriate response! But then of course when Dany turns her ire to the 'innocent' everyone huffs and puffs indignantly.
    'But it's just a show.'
Yes, it's 'just a show' (so why are you foaming at the mouth so much at the final season then?), but it's astounding how much people carry over this attitude in real life. It's this belief that violence can be so compartmentalized which leads to so much war and suffering. 'Oh, let's go to war as our first option! We'll only get the bad guys and be greeted as liberators! We'll limit our 'collateral damage''.... funny how it almost NEVER works out this way!

Madness runs deep in the Targaryen and Jon was only spared because of his upbringing, being an underdog and having to carve his own path.
Daenerys for all her initial virtues and promise, grew up with the idea that she was meant to rule, even when her brother was alive. She was fed the idea that she was almost divine.
In the end, the loss of Missandei, the dragons and the growing paranoia about Jon and that everyone around her was an obstacle to her divine destiny, pushed her over the edge to the same madness that killed her father.

His aversion to ruling has nothing to do with his “undying love” for Dany. His feelings for her ceased romantically the moment he found out they were related. He wasn’t raised to sleep with his family members. It was never going to work out for them.
The show runners should have let the show play out at its normal pace, then maybe some of what happened would make more sense to ppl. But unfortunately they had other projects and were in a hurry to finish GOT. They let the story slip out from under them. Due to how horrific these last two seasons were, especially the last one, they didn’t get to work on their projects anyway. Ofc they didn’t think about that, just like they didn’t think about how all of this would look to us - the fans. It was very selfish of them and I’ll never forgive them for it.

Already episode 5? You guys keep 'em coming fast. Thank you! This episode sees the the death of my favourite character of the show. Sandor Clegane - The Hound. I wish he would have made it out alive. But we all knew that he was destined to die - at least he finally took revenge on his brother. It was also sad to see Varys go out like that. It was still an entertaining episode of course. But: Daenerys turning bad was not a suprise. But as many others said before: It was just rushed and came too sudden - they needed to pack the whole transition in only a few episodes. It would be alright if played out a bit longer and smoother. I also didn't like it to be so inconsistent. Suddenly Eurons fleet was an easy target - after being unbeatable with two dragons. Now easy task with only one. And suddenly all the Scorpions were useless...

8:22 Yes! Cody! I completely agree! Jon just immediately fell in love with Dany when she saved them in the North and she sacrificed a dragon for him. That guilt started the "love" he felt for her. It just seemed WAY TOO FAST, like Rob & Talisa.😢 Dany's arc was truly visible back in season 3. People just didn't want to see it.

She literally was screaming about burning King's Landing to the ground as early as Season 2. The books make it more clear, as she blames the people for "allowing" her family to be killed and a "usurper" taking over the throne. She also hates the Starks, with a passion, because they helped Baratheon. Regardless of how Selmy tries to tell her they're good people, she shuns him & says they're all complicit. She's an evil bitch from the getgo. Not to mention, in the show, Jon is the one who has the claim, not her, and SHE is the actual usurper. Her own brother would have murdered her himself for doing what she did in telling Jon to shut up about his parentage so she could take the power. She's vile.

It is true it's difficult to explain why Daenerys massacred everyone when she could have simply flown straight towards Cersei and killed only her
For Tyrion who betrayed Varys, in fact it was already suggested in the previous episode that Varys intended to kill Daenerys because he considered her dangerous. At the beginning of this episode, when Varys is talking to the little girl who works in the kitchen, it's implied Varys wanted to poison Daenerys. This is why Tyrion decided to report Varys to Daenerys, because at that moment, he remained convinced Daenerys was going to do what was right but obviously, that was not the case

Bran really frustrates me by not saying anything, but I also think that as the 3-eyed Raven he can't really interfere in people's choices, like when he told Jon it was his choice to tell his sisters or not.
Also, the problem with Jon is that he is so obsessed with keeping his word (like Ned), that it's their downfall. His devotion to Dany is part love, part honouring his word.
I also feel like Sandor's words to Arya brought back part of who she was before she became a ruthless killer, which I like. She is still badass, but also more herself.
