That 95 speech check - “Ideals are strengthened by the challenges they endure. Veronica’s questioning did you a service.” - has to be one of the best dialogue line I’ve personally seen in any video game. That literally hits the spot on explaining why the world of Fallout had the Great War in the first place, how our society evolves, and why some mighty powerhouses from the past eventually met an unceremonious demise. This line is something I should remember for a lifetime, no matter who I am or whatever position I’ll get to find myself in. It’s incredible how a pastime can teach you a valuable life lesson.
Veronica was always my favorite companion. It always hit hard that I couldnt do more for her. I wish Obsidian made a way for her to join the Followers.
Security Chief Gopher The closest to a happy ending you can get for Veronica is to have her leave the Brotherhood, spare them and have the NCR take over New Vegas.
I was already a paladin of the brotherhood when I started Veronica's companion quest. It totally weirded me out that they called me an outsider despite already joining their ranks.
I think it's just another sign of how far gone the Mojave Brotherhood really is. Even Maxson's BoS acknowledges that outsiders have value and can make for worthy additions to the ranks, to what's left of Elijah's Brotherhood if you're born in the wasteland you're inherently lesser. They're really not far off becoming a less impressive and even more doomed version of the Enclave.
veronica needs an ending in which she acts as the courier's tech adviser in the lucky 38. there is no way the brotherhood could touch her there after the courier takes over.
When I first played Fallout New Vegas, I accidentally got Veronica as a follower. I had no idea what I was doing and after talking with her she joined me. I did the Followers option for her quest and it just infuriated me. It was my first taste of the Brotherhood of Steel and I will never forget how selfish and stubborn they can be.
Selfish?. More like resigned. The brotherhood is dying a slow death, and everyone can see it. The elder here knows that the brotherhood is doomed, but unlike Veronica, he does not believe it can be saved. The band of paladins causing problems are basically acting on their own. They know in their heart of hearts that the brotherhood is failing, but they have convinced themselves that if they believe enough, if they follow their holy mantra of the codex closely enough, that they will somehow pull through. Zealotry born from desperation.
Having spend a great deal of time with Veronica, all of the companions really, her story made me feel the most. When I completed the Serra Madre I literally rushed back to find her to tell her about her former lover and where she was and to try and take her back with me so we could find her again, but, no choice to even tell her, which is an absolute crime.
The reason that you couldnt tell Veronica about Christine is that: 1: its never genuinely confirmed that the two were lovers, its a rational conclusion and most likely they were in love but they never told us Christine was Veronica's lost love 2: Felicia Day was incredibly expensive to hire to voice Veronica, and the only reason they managed to get the voice lines for Father Elijah's message is that they're actually in the base game, but to hide it from leakers trying to expose a new DLC for the game, Obsidian made fake lines with made up characters like Monty and Abraham, and perhaps Christine as a character was implemented after Obsidian parted ways with Day
Veronica was the only companion I knew how to get when I got the game, literally skipped all the places past most of the mission objectives just to get her, favourite character
Love Veronica, lore-wise she's by far my favorite companion of all the Fallouts. Instantly fell in love with her character which depresses me because she never really gets a true happy ending.
A few minor details to add, if I may. Veronica certainly downplays her appearance, and has a 'thing' about her hair, as mentioned by Watkins in the Hidden Valley. However, she's remarkably beautiful. Literally, since there are places you can go like Vault 3 (if you haven't killed everyone) The Kings building and the Great Khan camp where there's unique NPC dialogue. She gets a few unsubtle invitations from Fiends, several Kings will hit on her too and some Khans will ask you if your friend is single. She also will interact with non-hostile NPC in some areas like the Mormon Fort buy chatting with them, although there's no audio. I also love her responses to certain things via the command wheel, like asking her to use ranged attacks gets you "Does jumping at them with my fists count as ranged? >sigh< Fine." and telling her to go melee gets you "Yes! Everything's coming up Veronica!" She's sarcastic, sassy, smart, sweet, strking (in both senses), somewhat scary, sometimes sombre sometimes sparkling and very special. Anyone taking her as a companion who *doesn't* fall in love with her, at least a bit, is probably dead inside. Not to mention that you have to respect anyone who lists their ambitions as "A lifetime supply of Fancy Lads Snack Cakes, revenge against my enemies, and world peace. In that order."
I love her but i hate i mean HATE that everytime combat dies down she has to say "probably would have died of natural causes anyway" 1st time its funny 101st time its super annoying
After listening to this video, I now understand why I always felt compassion for Veronica in all of my playthroughs. She was just a girl who just wanted to help.
when Veronica makes the choice to leave and is confronted by those Paladins, if the courier has the Terrifying Presence perk it scares the Paladins and gives a little extra dialogue for Veronica.
I just honestly wanted to give Veronica a hug and save her a dance on the Strip I felt so sorry for her when Elder McNamara crushed her hopes EVEN when he clearly saw that she was right ):
Lakers fan How hard would it have been to add a "This is a joke, BTW" note at the bottom of your comment, it's not like sarcasm or intended inflections can really show up in text... (Sorry for the chastising, I just get annoyed when people forget to take a second and think about how their comments might be interpreted outside of their intentions)
Some joke about a lesbian with a power-fist. Whatever. In all seriousness, New Vegas is still the tops in my mind. I loved the companions and other characters, the choices, the DLC, the weapons, the setting, and the Black Armour is still my favorite outfit ever. Veronica's story touched me in a unique way amongst companions. Really, she has no "happy ending". But she can have you for a friend, if you let her.
Ah, Veronica. This girl right here has had my back for about 3/4 of my ~10,000 hours across 3 copies and 2 different platforms of NV. Still, give Veronica a Superheated Saturnite Powerfist, and Vera Keys' Dress, you got yourself a beautiful, hilarious, badass.
The Woolly Eel I didn't tell her I killed them. She travelled with me like normal until I took her on a few quests for Caesar's legion. Then she somehow found out what I did.
She is my favorite companion. Her alongside Ed-E are a match made in heaven. Especially if you have GRA DLC and give her Two Step Goodbye. After witnessing her mistreatment by BOS I couldn't let her stay. I convinced her to leave. She'll always have Ed-E and I.
They are a fun couple to hang out with but the practical synergy is bad. The extended detection of enemies is useless if you have to get to melee range to send veronica and her perk is redundant with the multi tools of ed e. The combination with most benefits are ed e and bone for sniping, ed e and lily for sneak attacks or ed e and Raul for utility or gunslinging.
@@DanRen11 Absolutely correct. I know this very well. I've played through the game so many times I just disregard all of that simply cause the characters themselves are the ones I relate to and sympathize with the most. Yes, even though Ed-E is an Eyebot 😂 I dunno why but I feel a connection with the character as a player. Their usefulness doesn't really matter to me in the long run. I'll utilize all the combos and find what works best in a strategic setting. Yet, once I have my favorites, after so many playthroughs. . . I know who I'll have the most fun with. Y'know?
That doesn't mean Bethesda should have given Obsidian sucha little time frame to release the game in. Obs is a great company and should be trusted to make a good RPG game.
Obsidian has the original devs of the first 2 fallout games, if Bethesda hadn't bought the rights somebody else would, maybe even Obsidian themselves would eventually buy the rights, game would probably not be a FPS though. Wasteland 2 is the best example of the alternative future where Obsidian bought the rights to their devs previous work as another company.
Veronica was a very well and interestingly written character. I thought it was pretty cool you could give her that unique dress from the Dead Money DLC too.
He intends to destroy the NCR and everyone else in the Mojave by unleashing the Cloud and the holograms on them. There’s no way he was really on the NCR’s side, especially because the defeat at Helios One was his motivator to search for such weapons of mass destruction
I have to say, I prefer it on Cass especially with something to replace that stupid hat - Boomer helmet or baseball cap. Ronnie gets a T-51b and a motorcycle helmet so you don't have to see that sodding hood.
Damn she looks ugly with those texture replacements. Reminds me of a tortoise face. Scaly and cracked like she's been wandering the desert for the majority of her adult life. What's up with that?
Once scoured the wiki, weighted options, and planned an entire play-through just to give Veronica the best ending possible. I love her character and wanted good things for her. She is probably my favorite companions from any game and realizing her ending could be bittersweet, at best, was devastating.
Ander Mitchell because they are abominations of what he originally intended for the BoS, hiding in a bunker worked for the first few years, but people organize, so they need to adapt to the current situation which is probably what he would do
If you have the terrifying presence perk the Brotherhood of Steel troops that confront you can be frightened into temporary submission after the character says, "I will cast down your Codex and bask in the dying agony of those who hold it dear." Humorously, Veronica will ask if the Courier actually meant that.
wonder if that was a play on "The Guild" which is how Felicia Day, voice actor for Veronica, got her big start as her character in that was called Codex in WoW.

I would really like Oxhorn to do a video just dedicated to Father Elijah (the old leader of the brotherhood of steel) his story reaches into the DLC Old World Blues and the DLC with the Sierra Madre. I know he said about learning about him in the Sierra Madre but his story reaches deeper in the DLC Old World Blues. So I think making a video putting the pieces together from everything would be really nice. His story seems really awesome. It would be a really nice way to tie up the story of the BOS. If you agree like this comment so the bearded man can see it. Anyway thank you :D
Ryoki Uzumasa I know he said about doing a story into the Sierra Madre but Elijahs story reaches into the Old World Blues as well. He should make a video just dedicated to him. And I agree.
As Oxhorn observed in his livestream, New Vegas lore is deeply intertwined. A full video on Elijah can't be done without going deeply into Christine's story and at least touching on that of Ulysses, has to have the Mojave BoS and Veronica in context and, as you rightly observed, really needs Big Mt. to be looked at before the Sierra Madre. New Vegas may or may not have _more_ lore than Fallout 4 but it sure as eggs is eggs is more interconnected.
Nicholas Cross Agreed I never said when it had to happen I just want it to happen down the road. Your right though and I actually like how Obsidian did this in Fallout New Vegas it made everything feel much more deep.
I know i love her!! I adored her as Charlie in Supernatural. If i had a chance with her i might just be tempted enough to leave my husband in the night and live a magical nerd life with her 😉👭💜
I had her join the Followers because the West Coast Brotherhood is ultimately doomed in my view much like the Legion though for different reasons. Their ironclad adherence to their doctrine makes them unable to adapt, their war with the NCR has decimated their numbers, their disregard for diplomacy won't win them any friends but will make them plenty of enemies who can fight back, and their general unwillingness to recruit outsiders (with a couple of extreme exceptions) cripples their potential for growth. That last issue is particularly problematic because even if they survive the events of New Vegas and get better at not pissing off all the other factions in the Wasteland, their limited gene pool means that sooner or later they will most likely start to suffer from inbreeding, and given how few of them are left and how long these problems have plagued the West Coast Brotherhood, I don't think it will take long. Unless the West Coast chapter adapts some of the reforms Elder Lyons made for the East Coast Chapter, they are doomed. And judging by the fact that a whole team of Paladins attempt to murder you and Veronica for merely speaking to the Elder and trying to convince him change is necessary indicates that even if some members come around to her way of thinking it could easily lead to a civil war within the Brotherhood at worst but at the very least would likely lead to a splintering like what happened with the Outcasts and the East Coast. Regardless of what happens in New Vegas, the West Coast Brotherhood is most likely doomed and no amount of Power Armor, Laser Rifles, or fanboys typing/shouting "Ad Victoriam" can change that.
I'm sorry Trooper, I'll leave the cookie on the table for you. Oh and on another note you may want to seek new employment, I hear the Emperor and Vader are bad bosses.
If you're on a boat, and your captain, and everyone else is watching your boat sail towards a titanic iceberg and everything you say and do is ignored, is it a sin to get on that life boat and get off before you die with the rest of them?
No. But unfortunately the blind devotion to stay on the ship has been always been mankind's greatest deterrent. If everyone thought outside their collective box there would be no need for a lifeboat. They'd turn the ship
@@haydenchristopher480its just a similar comparison to Veronica's situation. Stay with the brotherhood and go down with the ship or use the lifeboat and get away from them. Just a analogy
@@andytsung9442 Your correct it's not like she had as much influence as the elders. But she did have her own choice to make on whether or not to leave the brotherhood. She knew they were headed for annihilation but didn't want to desert them. What would you do if everyone you cared for believed in something you didn't, something you knew would eventually destroy them?
Veronica is one of the characters in this game, like Boone, that I almost felt obligated to help once I knew more about them. New Vegas has a way of tugging at the heartstrings. I'm a sucker for a sad story and, being the D&D Lawful Good type that I am, I immediately dropped everything I was working on to complete her quest as best that it could be completed (Pro Tip: There's no real "good" ending). That _includes_ making sure that McNamara stays Elder, so the Brotherhood can be safely aligned with the NCR via the ceasefire, thus ensuring at least short-term survival. Keep in mind, by entering into her quest, I forged an alliance purely because I wanted her to be happy. I only found out later that McNamara was the right call for the alliance. I picked him over Hardin because McNamara felt like a less bloodthirsty option; the guy that actually wanted to work towards longevity over short-term solutions. Yes, McNamara was being secretive, but his reasoning was solid and his end goals were worthwhile. And then there's just the name of her quest, named because it holds the future survival of the Mojave Brotherhood Chapter in its palm. "I Could Make You Care." No, in the end she couldn't make the Brotherhood care, no matter which Elder was in charge. _But she made me care._ Yeah, I cried over this character a little bit. Shut up, it's good writing.
I love how subtly Father Elijah was characterized through the interactions of Veronica, if you've never spoken to Veronica or the BoS then you'd most likely never know the truth of Elijah in Dead Money. Being told by Veronica that "if he had a button to command the brotherhood like robots, he would" is foreshadowing the encounter between you and him during the DLC.
Veronica is such a fun companion to have around. She has humor, shes combat effective (especially if you give her power armor and a powerfist) and has an interesting story to explore that even crosses over to a pretty good DLC. I took her to the Followers of the Apocalypse route almost every playthrough becouse I felt she should try to make the best of her skills and have freedom (also couple free power armors from those a$$hats who kill the Followers). I'd say shes the most enjoyble companion of the vanilla ones (when mods, Willow FTW)
Your Mom hahaha hate to break this to ya chief but she not lookin to get her cheeks clapped by a dood...if you a gril tho, the story is a little different
When you get her to leave the Brotherhood kill the ones who stop you when you leave the bunker then she can join the followers without them being slaughtered also there is a way to broker peace between ncr and the Brotherhood if you have her stay with them and do this she has a reaction as well
I loved the veronica story in New Vegas, I loved having a companion that actually has enough personality to not just accept any role you mold them into, and follow anything you tell them (ie even though there are two perks, there isn't a "good" and "bad" veronica like there is for boon, Cassidy rose ect). A character that doesn't just hide the details behind what they are afraid to tell you, but figures out there own path as you do other things. And best of all, it seems perfect to me to have a character that doesn't become 2d and blindly fall in love with you based on a speech option once you've done some quests, but instead will always hover between sassy friend and temporary traveling companion as she tries to make sense of the world. However I always found the end of this story unfulfilling.. not because its sad end in a way, but because its unresolved. Even though we encounter Christine, we don't really get to do or say anything meaningfully different no matter if we've completed veronica's quest first, or anything once we get back. Its a story that just ends abruptly, making you think you'll unlock another personal quest later, but you never do. I know everybody always wants more content, but to add it would either delay games production and drive up costs or reduce content quality, but for a game where they added so much of her personal story into post release DLC, it seems a shame they missed having any last hook beyond just giving veronica a holotape we never learn more about, and can never take the max leveled companion characters with nothing left for them in the mojave with us when we start the final quests, especially lonesome road. All that aside its still amazing story telling, but it sits in the difficult spot of making you care too much to be side-quest that just concludes with no more content, while not even being an experience for the 50% of players home side against the brotherhood (especially now fallout 4 makes them even harder to agree with). But then again thats always the sign of great content, when you reach the end and desperately want more...
I wish you could install Veronica as the Brotherhood Elder. ^^ Also about Veronica and Christine, the Courier never actually finds out they were an item. They never talk about each other by name, so the Courier never learns about them. Even now their relationship is mostly fan theory. XD
@The Gaming Guy Are you serious?! Just because someone uses a funny avatar picture you disregard everything they say?! Atleast they have SOME humour, unlike your boring ass white "T" on orange avatar picture...
To understand the difference between Obsidian and Bethesda, you only need to compare Veronica to Piper. There's just a depth to Obsidian characters that you don't get from Bethesda characters. Not to mention the super heavy themes New Vegas touches upon - rape, sexual slavery, genocide, megalomania, technocracy.
Jeff Frye Holy shit I can’t believe how wrong you are. New Vegas is the best and most complete FPS fallout game in existence (and it was made in 18 months). Bethesda has 3 entries in the series and not a single one of them is anywhere close to being as good as New Vegas.
Jeff Frye Also I would implore you to take a look at the metacritic scores for Outerworlds and compare them to Fallout 76. Both are games made by the current dev teams working at Bethesda and Obsidian.
New Vegas pretty much introduced me to Felicia Day, then I've heard about her getting swept up in the Gamergate controversy so I can only hope that didn't' scare her away from videogames. In my opinion she did such a good job with this character and would like to see her voice more.

I was already a paladin of the brotherhood when I started Veronica's companion quest. It totally weirded me out that they called me an outsider despite already joining their ranks.
Its ok, I know how ya feel. In ES:III everyone calls you Outlander still even if youre a Dark Elf and the Nevarine.
You were still an outsider you freak . Especially to her
veronica needs an ending in which she acts as the courier's tech adviser in the lucky 38. there is no way the brotherhood could touch her there after the courier takes over.

43:26 That squeal of delight when Veronica gets a dress always manages to make me smile no matter how many times i played through the game.
I only liked Lyon's faction of the BoS
Agreed. He's the only brotherhood elder I met who didn't have his head up his ass.
The only real BoS chapter I know of that's actually thriving is the Washington chapter... Lyons BOS = Best BOS
Omg, her squeal of happiness when you give her the dress is adorable.
That upset me. All the time with Christine and Veronica, I was itching to tell one about the other
OH GOD I NEVER REALISED IT BEFORE
Damn
The reason that you couldnt tell Veronica about Christine is that:
1: its never genuinely confirmed that the two were lovers, its a rational conclusion and most likely they were in love but they never told us Christine was Veronica's lost love
2: Felicia Day was incredibly expensive to hire to voice Veronica, and the only reason they managed to get the voice lines for Father Elijah's message is that they're actually in the base game, but to hide it from leakers trying to expose a new DLC for the game, Obsidian made fake lines with made up characters like Monty and Abraham, and perhaps Christine as a character was implemented after Obsidian parted ways with Day
What about rauls story? his is the most sad I think

Veronica was the only companion I knew how to get when I got the game, literally skipped all the places past most of the mission objectives just to get her, favourite character
Veronica then, Cait now... Relationships. Relationships never change.
Love Veronica, lore-wise she's by far my favorite companion of all the Fallouts. Instantly fell in love with her character which depresses me because she never really gets a true happy ending.
Oh god, I know what you mean. I too wanted her to succeed… :( She had grown on me sooo much…
A few minor details to add, if I may.
Everything's coming up Veronica!"
She's sarcastic, sassy, smart, sweet, strking (in both senses), somewhat scary, sometimes sombre sometimes sparkling and very special.
Ahhh, no punchies??
I am so glad I made her a companion. The only other one I had was Cass and Cass is good but is a bit uninteresting.

Veronica, Christine, Ulysses and Father Elijah. I have always done the dlcs in the incorrect order and I keep getting lost in that big story.

Crazykidz z how is speech hard thats usually a goto stat to max in my opinion
As Oxhorn observed in his livestream, New Vegas lore is deeply intertwined. A full video on Elijah can't be done without going deeply into Christine's story and at least touching on that of Ulysses, has to have the Mojave BoS and Veronica in context and, as you rightly observed, really needs Big Mt. to be looked at before the Sierra Madre. New Vegas may or may not have _more_ lore than Fallout 4 but it sure as eggs is eggs is more interconnected.

Paladin Cody, the time has come
I simply can't stop falling in love with the whole universe that New Vegas created. I love this so much.
She makes a lot of good point about the brotherhood, they really are a flawed group. Great video
They are flawed, but they're not nearly as bad as they will be in Fallout 4
For the curious there actually is a solar power plant near the same place that Helios One is in the game. Its called Nevada Solar One
AD VICTORIAM!

*Takes another look at the Western BoS*

If you're on a boat, and your captain, and everyone else is watching your boat sail towards a titanic iceberg and everything you say and do is ignored, is it a sin to get on that life boat and get off before you die with the rest of them?
No. But unfortunately the blind devotion to stay on the ship has been always been mankind's greatest deterrent. If everyone thought outside their collective box there would be no need for a lifeboat. They'd turn the ship
What does this have to do with fallout
@@haydenchristopher480its just a similar comparison to Veronica's situation. Stay with the brotherhood and go down with the ship or use the lifeboat and get away from them. Just a analogy
Rickey Hall but Veronica is not the captain or an elder of the brotherhood...she’s just a scribe
_But she made me care._

When you get her to leave the Brotherhood kill the ones who stop you when you leave the bunker then she can join the followers without them being slaughtered also there is a way to broker peace between ncr and the Brotherhood if you have her stay with them and do this she has a reaction as well
Gotta respect the fact that the lesbian character uses fisting weapons
Oh god... is that fact a Easter egg in it's self?
pablo daddy Boi first thing I thought of
That would really put the "greased" in greased lightning
first thing i noticed too
Krillin: "Looks like there are two types of fisting in this town!"
It's funny because i ran into her right after i finished the Dead Money DLC and blew elijah's head off. that conversation was awkward af.
Oooooooh that is beautiful
It would be better if you could take her in dead money, you wouldn’t have a collar, and you’d have an option to talk Elijah down.
I actually got her to follow me into Dead Money on my first playthrough.
Incredigamer I merged Dog and God and left Christine alive, I wanted to save Dean but fuck him
I loved the veronica story in New Vegas, I loved having a companion that actually has enough personality to not just accept any role you mold them into, and follow anything you tell them (ie even though there are two perks, there isn't a "good" and "bad" veronica like there is for boon, Cassidy rose ect).
Also about Veronica and Christine, the Courier never actually finds out they were an item.
They never talk about each other by name, so the Courier never learns about them.
Even now their relationship is mostly fan theory. XD
@The Gaming Guy
Are you serious?! Just because someone uses a funny avatar picture you disregard everything they say?!
Atleast they have SOME humour, unlike your boring ass white "T" on orange avatar picture...
That dude's chugging his life away in the background when you first start to talk to Veronica.
Me in 2020;
Probably tries to forget the head model
"I was young and I needed the money" that's was pretty funny I laughed out loud
I feel like all the companions in Vegas are more badass than in fallout 4...
DakotaAnesthesia Raul is the shit!
DakotaAnesthesia and fallout 3 XD
DakotaAnesthesia I only played a bit of F4, but it seems to me, most of the characters feel more real and fleshed out in New Vegas.
dogmeat is cool
DakotaAnesthesia But...but...
Corey Jones Don’t forget you also get power armor almost instantly lol
@@themartyguy dude remember when deathclaws were actually hard to kill
Jeff Frye Holy shit I can’t believe how wrong you are. New Vegas is the best and most complete FPS fallout game in existence (and it was made in 18 months). Bethesda has 3 entries in the series and not a single one of them is anywhere close to being as good as New Vegas.
Jeff Frye Also I would implore you to take a look at the metacritic scores for Outerworlds and compare them to Fallout 76. Both are games made by the current dev teams working at Bethesda and Obsidian.
chode papi Pillars of Eternity and Tyranny.
Two very good games and well received.
Felicia dey is the perfect voice actor for this character. I've always loved her.
In one of my games she died while fighting against a golden gecko
New Vegas pretty much introduced me to Felicia Day, then I've heard about her getting swept up in the Gamergate controversy so I can only hope that didn't' scare her away from videogames. In my opinion she did such a good job with this character and would like to see her voice more.
I always wanted to give her a hug :(
Kroko King hug the t.v idk
+Kroko King
Me too
*noble tone* “ I go where I am needed”
Yes good lady, yes you do.
