  • This is the story of the famous Iron Cross Gibson that James Hetfield from Metallica modified himself and a review of my 1976 Gibson Les Paul Custom Iron Cross modified by Antonio Guitars
    P.S. Some new info from the comments of this video: The stripes on James's guitar and the prototype could be made from vinyl used for wrapping and decoration in the car industry. Makes more sense than paint and you saw the distressing on them. Also the UM73 is not present on the prototype back but the prototype is not distressed. Its present on the back of the ESP version. That's why I like making those videos, even I learn a lot by making them!

    As always, you make very awesome well detailed reviews! I wish Gibson would release this guitar. That would be sick

      I am glad you enjoyed it. There is little hope left even if James joins Gibson, but who knows, life is strange these days 🤣

      @@GeorgeVGuitars Great stuff, but are you sure that James used a killswitch? I think he got rid of the second tone pot, installed a regular 3-way selector, and the upper one is inactive - not a killswitch :)

      @@aek4018 Yeah that would make sense because he is used to the lower switches on his explorers. Whichever way you wired it should be fine. Also on the white iron cross it is wired as you said ;)

    Love the video! James's Gibson Iron Cross is the best IMO. I hate that it didn't work out, even after the prototype was made, due to Henry being difficult. Wish James would give Gibson another try now that Henry is gone!
    I turned my Gibson LP Custom into a Iron Cross version also. I just decided to not do the wear markings. I did it like the prototype James is playing at the start of the vid.

      It would make sense with Kirk on board. Also enough time has passed. Lets hope second chances work out :>

    Out of curiosity, was the finish removal from pick attack natural or was it an added relic job? The guitar is beautiful either way

    Not a fan of fake relics but it's a beautiful guitar.

      Thats not a fake relic ;) Only the forearm area. Its a naturally aged 76

      @@GeorgeVGuitars So... It's a fake relic

    • @GeorgeVGuitars
      @GeorgeVGuitars  2 роки тому +3

      Watch the video, that slight relic would have looked exactly like this if it was done from playing. You can't call an entire guitar faker relic because a single detail ;)

    I saw it and was like "I'll have a look and tell him to look at ESP or LTD" and then I saw you have both...... 😐 Both?!?! Bruh, that's excessive!

    Why is the guitar so out of tune during the demonstrations? Can’t you tune a guitar?
