    When talking of turning it's the inner experience of transcending not the setting that matters. When the body is pushed into unfamiliar behaviour it demands full attention and continual thinking collapses, leaving awareness outside time and space in the infinite now.

    could his voice be any more bloody pretentious?? 90% of the screentime is occupied by him and his posh anthropologist voice. let the MUSIC speak
    why couldnt they get someone with a real connection to the culture to narrarate, or a scholars from the middle east? The west always have to hijack everything.
    The music is beautiful though

    There are the Sufi and the hardliners like the Pakistani Mullah and between them is the rest of us Muslims. Though I like many of the practices of the Sufis and find them to be the most loving people, I can never join any Sufi order because of their belief of the need of an "intermediary" and the grave/shrine worship. WHY do they need intermediary when Allaah has given us permission to go directly to HIM? Maybe it comes from the Christian idea of having to go to God, through a priest

    • @BulletproofGOAT
      @BulletproofGOAT 5 років тому +2

      I agree about grave/shrine worship but, I see it as the celebration of these people, a thank you for helping to spread the word of Islam to the sub-continent.

      I love Sufism and every other day I find myself watching or listening them, but yes, the intermediary thing is something even I can't go on and practise. But, as Imam Ali AS has said, 'The number of ways to God is the number of breaths you breathe.' So I leave all this upon Allah. Personally, I have felt Allah in such a way that I can't think of calling out anyone else, no matter how much I love them.

      @@Alamgir-ri6px YES we were, however, that does not mean they believe in "saints" or worship graves. There is a great difference between respect and worship as they do in Ajmer, India. I am sure if Chisti came back he would scream and beat those who are worshipping his grave and turn it into a temple.

      @@rubana7487 Most of the people belief you need somebody to reach God. Perception of God is the very basic part of life, like taking breath . You don't need anybody,even religion, for knowing how to love and respect God. Let us get rid off these businessmen whose business is God.

    Is this the short version of the original documentary " Mystic music of islam " which was on youtube couple of years back ?? It was two part documentary with detailed work and singing of legendary Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan saheb. Seems like it has been shortened.

    • @Shroom00
      @Shroom00 8 років тому +3

      I think this is the same documentary; a forty minute film aired on Channel 4 in 2005 and presented by historian William Dalrymple. The wonderful Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan does feature at about 24minutes in when his nephew pays tribute also.
      I would like to recommend Fanna-Fi-Allah if you don't already know of them, an outstanding Qawwali group led by Tahir Faridi Qawwal, they are working on a documentary called 'Qawwali: Music of the Mystics' which features the late Amjad Sabri, the trailer is on their UA-cam page.
      Hope that is helpful.
      Blessings and Thanks for this devotional music....

    The ancestors of William Dalrymple were employed in the East India Company which colonised India in the name of civilizing us. Dalrymple still carries that history and does his part in demonising Hindu Civilization. He knows nothing of our culture apart from the dark alleys that every culture suffers due to elitism and institutionalisation. He is a remnant of the colonial India which he considers better than today's India. He calls Chaitanya Mahaprabhu a fanatic, knowing nothing about the Vaishnavite philosophy. He just likes to gain cheap popularity by demeaning our culture. He should be kicked out andnever allowed to set foot in this country like his ancestors in the imperial rule. He is also gladly endorses the Nichols who invaded our country. It seems from his writings on India that he is in all favor for the invaders and not the indigenous populace.

    • @shahcool007

      Sufis are Muslims. The Holy Prophet PBUH taught some people jurisprudence, some people were taught memorizing the Quran, and then there were some who were taught the inner knowledge by him. They were known as Ahl-e-Safa. And through them tasawwuf, ie Sufism came. There's even a hadith where Prophet Muhammad let the kids play percussion during Eid, and he even sent some singers to sing at a wedding in Ansar tribe who loved music.

      Cahiliyye arabs. Such arabs does not even understand Quran. Quran just mentions about insan. Adam is symbol of someone who has taken the nour/light of God.
      7 Big, 28 All prophets in Quran are symbols.
      Actually, you said they are not muslim. You should think about your iman, your belief.
      maybe in your last breath you won't be a muslim.

      Sufis are Muslims. Usually. There are some misguided European and Americans who have been mislead and have no idea what they're doing. It is not for anyone to say who is or isn't Muslim. Is someone has mad the Shahaddah then they are Muslim. That's it. You do not know what is in their hearts, only Allah can judge a person.is they tell you they are Muslim you greet them as such. Even if a Muslim doesn't pray or fast,they are just not good at being Muslim. Look to your own heart. We are all so flawed none of us should have time to point fingers at our brothers and sisters.

    • @LuciThomasHardylover-qx6ts
      @LuciThomasHardylover-qx6ts 11 місяців тому

      Sufis ARE Muslim. Mostly. There are a few misguided European and Americans who have been mislead and don't know what they are! If someone considers themself Muslim who can judge them except Allah? If they have made their Shahaddah then that's it. If you don't like their practice or lack of it then that's a different thing, you are not the judge. Only Allah can judge us. You can nicely explain to someone what you think they're doing wrong.. nicely. YOU might be wrong! So listen..I have met many Sufis and my experience is that they are much better,kinder,more thirsty for knowledge than the Sunni brothers and sisters who dominate the mosques here. Islam is for all the people,if it not haram it's allowed. None of us are so perfect that we can waste time criticising our brothers and sisters. If someone tells you they are Muslim you have the adab to address them as such and be glad. Assalam alaikum.

    This documentary was a joke .
    Sufiism is like all other religions - its followers are exploited thru their emotional weaknesses - it 'attacks' the emotions into making them believe its something holy an spiritual (much like many religions) - an theres no better way to get it than Music .
    Music is forbidden in Islam (not all Music but mainly this type which encourages the opposites to mix) - because its like Alcohol - it makes one drunk an think what the Music tells them to think - especially in this day and age of nice Music mixed with filthy messages - or in this case - religious messages .
    So infact - it leaves them dumb - the religion gives them NO solution to their problem - except to simply listen to a song for a few minutes to simply forget their woes (for a few minutes) .

      You seem to think that thinking about it is going to make you understand. Some things, like any craft or art, can never truly be understood until you experience and work at it. You have clearly never experienced the tawhid if you still think that your ego is the way to understanding.

      You ought to read 'The Sufis' by Idries Shah; no, better yet, read 'The Way of the Sufi' first, then read 'The Sufis'. To me, 'The Way of the Sufi' is like a volume of scripture, & 'The Sufis' is the commentary.

    • @mangopicks
      @mangopicks Рік тому +1

      Every religion has its own form of ‘Sufism’ and that is developing an inner courtesy with God through spiritual practices, developing beautiful manners and living in an exemplary way. Sufism is the inner aspect of heart of Islam, without which speech, expressions and outer acts would be without any meaning or purpose.

      Idris Shah was a terrible old phoney pandering to western middle class hippies 😂 I don't know how anyone can wade through his books...he can't even write 😂 in Islam there is the Qur'an. Always the Qur'an. Then the hadith and the sunna. Then if you're such a good scholar you can read the scholars..Inman Ghazali etc...not some mystic guru misleading people. To be Sufi means first and foremost that you are a Muslim. Dalrymple fudges this. Idris Shah skates on a whisker to denying it!
