Talk about a gem and serendipity. I have been reflecting on the Buddha and the term “Tathagata” (or “Thusness” and “Suchness” or “Thus Come” and “Thus Gone”). This term or state of being sounds like what you are saying about al-Hallaj’s “al haqq” moment. An ultimate truth or understanding of the nature of reality - which is the state of dissolution of the self, ego, and permanence (e.g. anatta, anicca, and sunyata in Buddhism) - where one becomes all and nothing all at once. Al-Hallaj’s “I am the Truth” moment sounds similar to the Buddha’s Enlightenment or Tathagata state of “Thusness” and “Suchness” (having already “Thus Come” and Thus Gone”). This form body isn’t important anymore after you experience “al-Haqq.” I always learn something new when I watch your videos - but this is a true gem. Thank you! 🙏

@@terrarossa2187 Correction, respectfully: maqam fana elnafs fe allah means state of anhilation of self in allah. maqam baqa bel allah means state of abiding by allah. maqam fana in Sufism/Irfan = realization of annata (no self ) maqam baqa in Sufims/Irfan = abiding in Nibbana In Theravada Buddhism to realize no-self or anhilation of self they employ vippassna to investigate the five aggregates of self and then realization of no-self, the first veil or fetter removed. then progrsses to nibbana In Mahayana tantric and Tibetan Buddhism there are many methods. One is employing deity yoga and mantrayana just like thikr and divine attributes in Sufism to realize emptiness (of self). It is reported by advanced Sufists that at the stage of fana, they lose theirselves and never find it again, it is not really anhilated but the realization that self is unreal or illusary. It seems Sufism adopted the latter Mahayana/Tibetan methods, and fabricated a Hadeth "follow wisdom even to China", which scholars of Hadeth state this Hadeth was fabricated and never mentioned by prophet Mohammed. Sufists fabricated this Hadeth to refer to methods used in north India and China.
Sheikh Mansur Al-Hallaj is highly respected within the Sikh tradition as well, as someone who figured out the Truth of Reality, of Allah, and His relationship with the world. He is accepted as a true disciple of God within the Anandpur Durbar of Guru Gobind Singh (the 10th Guru). Beautiful video. This is amazing! Thank you so much, Filip, for introdusing al hallaj. I truly enjoyed it. I have been curious about Al-hallaj ever since you introduced "Ana al-haqq" in one of your videos. He is undeniably controversial. I was even more shocked by his other writings, far more than 'Ana al-Haqq.' It was his views on Satan that truly unsettled me. I do understand why he is such a controversial figure. It makes me wonder whether he reached a deeper level of annihilation (if there are levels to it), or if his experience is commonly shared and he was simply more vocal about it. That could explain why so many figures have been defending him. I wonder if the Sufi community were more open about their spiritual experiences, perhaps he wouldn’t be seen as so controversial.
If sufi community ever had a chance to become more vocal about their deep sense of spiritual reality I am afraid there will be more Mansoor's and more burnt bodies of saints!

Finally you got to Al Hallaj. Thank you. There are a few more stories of Al Hallaj from Iran and India that you missed. There is this incidence outside a Zoroastrian fire temple - by which Hallaj was walking . Hallaj just snapped his fingers and the fire of the temple sanctum - just blew out. In India he is said to have been influenced by monist mystics of Hinduism - which strengthened his adherence to monism and led to his powerful utterances. These strongly resonate with similar monistic utterances of the same period in India

Thats really so powerful poem (I saw my Lord with the eye of my heart). Alhallaj reached a very deep meaning of interpreting the true nature of self-awareness. He meditated on Qoraan and deciphered all mystical meaning in it. By the way he was a Sufi Shia'ai Muslim. Your Arabic pronunciation is perfect mate.
But that's kinda the problem right there, he is unnaturally unbiased. He gives the impression that he is a Sufi Muslim, yet never shows his true belief. He has no convictions no opinions on anything, and that makes me not trust him. I would much prefer he was honest as to his true personal beliefs, and we could then infer where he may be biased and where he is not. Instead he gives this ultra liberal vibe that he is to cowardly to take a stance on anything, as to not risk offence. And for someone who gives the impression he is a Sufi Muslim, it is interesting he has not said a single word about what is happening in Palestine. It gives me fake vibes. The prime directive of Sufism fight against wrong.

Allah did not command the angels to worship Adam He only command them to bow down. Didn't the parents and brothers of Yusuf bow down to to him, Yusuf?. Yes Iblis only worship Allah but he instigate humans to disobey the commands of Allah and indirectly or directly worship him Iblis but in reality Iblis knows that the only one to be worship is Allah but he can't reveal that to the children of Adam. In the Quran Iblis make a very profound statement. Look it up and understand.
His mistake was revealing his experience to people who could never understand it because they hadn't experienced it (yet, or at all, depending on the individual). You need to be very delicate when talking about experiences like that, because it can come off as very arrogant and people will misunderstand any words uttered in the joyous ecstasy of that kind of mystical spiritual experiences.
Nowadays people who experience the same thing and revealing it will be considered astray from teaching of Islam.. so its better to talk bout it with people whom understand it..

It says as the quote of Sheikh Jeelani r.a saying ' If I was present on the day when Hallaj was killed I would have hold their hand ( from killing him).' This song Muhiyideen maala used to be recited by mothers of every orthodox Sunni malayali household and is still famous. So Hallaj's name was familiar from my childhood. Some people, unfortunately, believe that singing this manmade song brings benefits in this life and the hereafter. May Allah protect us. It's important to return to the teachings of the Quran and Sunnah. Where did you get the idea that every mother among orthodox Sunni Muslims in Kerala recites this? Just because some individuals in your family or community engage in such practices doesn’t mean that all Muslims do. Do you have any evidence or statistics about the recitation of this so-called "Mala"? No! However billions of Muslims read the Quran, so why not focus on that instead of reciting these manmade malaas? If your parents or community are involved in such forms of worship, it doesn’t make it permissible in Islam, as our faith is based on the Quran and Sunnah. Non-duality, Duality; it's all just too much. Monotheistic is a complicated idea; Duality, God is everything? The Truth is, Superior, inferior; if you believe in a monotheistic God, there can be no separation from God, only a state of being in favor or out of favor, and everything in-between? I'm a Monotheist, yet I believe in you, while I'm also subject to you, and you me, in the Natural world. Which God rules the heavens? I imagine many.
Duality in relation to Humanity with Monotheism, is a Dichotomy. Duel implies equal parts, playing on each other. The Duality of God in Monotheism, is not inherently a Dichotomy; the reason being, God when applied to the totality of everything, that is Duality. Individuals, in a Monotheistic structure like Islam, cannot say the Duality of Humanity and God, because they are not an Equal part.
When I say Duel implies equal parts, I'm talking about two independent parts, that are together performing a function. They don't have to be physically equal, though without either one, the function cannot be performed; that's the criteria?
You could say individuals with a Monotheistic belief can hold to the idea of Duality; the Function being all that comes with an individual existence. So you're not wrong, even with Islam, Duality is a thing; the Question is, do you believe you are an integral part to that Function? You can't logically take away, from any other individual's relationship to it. I believe in the Duality of Life and God. I'm not trying to take that away from you; I couldn't if I tried, only you could do that.

One note about the last verse at 23:16 , the translation you did of وُجِدت is not „I found you“ but more of „you became“ or „you were found“. It is hard to exactly translate its essence but something along the line of „you appeared“. the reason why it is not „I found you“ because in this sentence it is not a verb as you can see from the diacritics over the letters but a passive verb. „I found you“ would be written as وَجَدت, and for this sentence it would be وَجدتك and not وَجدت أنت. However, that is an extremely impressive translation to a very hard verse to understand!

The path to God was manifested by God through His Prophets, ending with the final Prophet Muhammad, pbuh. None of them spoke of finding God through personal experiences, and all separated themselves from God with great Clarity. You could say the same thing about Ain-al-Quzat Hamedani, Suhrevardi, and thousands of unnamed free thinkers and minorities who have lost their lives ever since (or are in prisons even now as we speak) In Islam religion and politics have never been separate. In those early times the ruler and the mullahs were just beginning to hone the legal instruments. You can consult, for the latest iterations and execution of those laws, to legal systems in IR Iran, Pakistan,… I appreciate that in a safe (left leaning?!) academic setting in Sweden it would be difficult to sympathise or appreciate what it means to be persecuted simply for your world views or what you say, (and I wish that one day we can all critique each other’s beliefs and behaviours free of fear of violence), but for now I’m sorry to say that some of your presentation sound ‘apologetic’ and aimed for a particular viewer groups (but unfortunately triggering and upsetting for someone who has a different life experience)…. Anyway, harsh reactions to words is not totally unheard of; beginning with the assassination of the female poet; Asma bint Marvan in Medina, and continuing with the extrajudicial killing of Dr Shahnawaz Kanbar last Wednesday night in Mirpurkhas near Karachi. Hallaj’s official charges of being a Qarmatian rebel wishing to destroy the Kaaba, or his sympathies for Zanji slave rebellions (who were shipped in staggering numbers for draining marshes near Basra), themselves are unlikely to stand up in any court, and deserve scholarly analysis and perhaps a video on the extent of the slave trade in successive Khalifats from freedom of Ballal to capture of Yazidi women and children not long ago. Skipping over the tortures and the ultra savage treatment of a saintly person (who in another culture like India would have been considered a Jnani who has attained the height of religious insight), as political intrigue and norms of a distant past in a week when a Pakistani doctor (and another person a week before) were murdered on accusations of blasphemy on a post on social media, is the height of insensitivity or ignorance, or downright cowardice. There is (to this day) a common saying in Persian when asking about someone’s courage: چند مرده حلاجی؟! “How many men are you like Hallaj?”

@@isamkamel Ok, this might turn out to be a bit tricky, but let’s have a go (we owe it to Hallaj) There are 2 propositions here; One that Hallaj lied, and the second; that he had similar arrogance to Satan, both rejecting Adam due to the feeling that he (Satan this time) was better than Adam. The first accusation is very difficult to prove. Hallaj was expressing a truth (according to him) that he come upon through his own experience of enlightenment, which is something also known as Eshragh (in Suherwadi’s school), Erfan,…,or outside Islamic traditions; Moksha (Hindu traditions), Satori (Zen), etc. For those who have had their own experience of Reality/union with the Devine, it is absolutely real. So much so, that they see their lives before that event as a mere dream. So given the passage of time and absence of any similarity enlightened person among those who tried Hallaj or now between us (at least talking for myself) we cannot accuse him of lying. (Please note that I ruled out the absence of any enlightened person amongst the persecutors of Hallaj for their utter violence towards Hallaj as one common feature of enlightenment in all cultures is understanding of identity of ourselves and all life I.e. compassion and love as they will see every being as themselves) So, we can not really establish that Hallaj lied. On the second charge of arrogance which is a 2 prong charge; one; Hallaj’s arrogance, and the second; Satan’s arrogance. Well, Hallaj never claimed that he was better than Adam, and arrogance per se is not a hanging crime. Is it?! On the second charge of Satan considering himself better than Adam, it would be unfair to rule for punishment of Hallaj for Satan’s crime, although that sort of justice seems to be a common practice during the abassid Khalifate (and even now in that former territory) as there is a saying from that time which is famous in Persian and goes like this: گنه کرد در بلخ آهنگری به شوشتر زدند گردن مسگری A blacksmith committed a sin in Balkh, For his crime, a coppersmith was be-headed in Shushtar (fyi Balkh is an ancient city in today’s Afghanistan, and Shushtar is another ancient city Southwest of Iran) Anyway we diverged a bit, but I don’t think we can come to a conclusion one way or another about Satan’s refusal to worship Adam, for the following reasons; Not knowing Adam personally, but judging from his descendants (us human beings!) couldn’t we too sympathise with his decision being an Angel and loyal servant of God since beginning of time (earlier?!-No that can be meaningless…) being asked to worship Adam someone other than God?! That would be almost textbook definition of شرک ‘Shirk’ which is what Hallaj had said. Another issue (which is more of an issue for our post-modern human culture and less for the prescientific Bronze age people) is the whole question of literal understanding of Adam and Eve, and Paradise, and Satan etc. (rather than their symbolic meaning) as we have no evidence for those assertions that could be accepted in a modern court of law which would throw them out of court as mere ‘hearsay’, and mythical beliefs (as useful as they are symbolically for guiding us) I think also that the evidence for Evolution of species outweighs the Adam and Eve hypothesis for human ancestry. studies in comparative religion also shows a very close relationships between Satan and Ahriman (an ancient Zoroastrian dualistic belief) that had entered Judaism post Babylonian exile (where those cultures met). It continued In Christianity and later into Islam. The same is likely to be true for the concept of Paradise which again is an ancient Persian word Pardis (walled garden) which became Paradise in English, and Ferdos in Arabic as there is no P in Arabic. …anyway on the balance of evidence, I’m sure you would agree with me that Hallaj was innocent of those charges and likely that he was a saintly man and speaking from his own experience/ his own truth as his judges and persecuters I.e. the professional Imamams, and Mojtaheds, and the Khalifeh and his Vizier had more reason and motivation to lie than a man who put his life in line, and paid the ultimate price with serenity as told by witnesses. But for us, I think, the ultimate verification of Hallaj’s claim can come only through our own enlightenment/awakening, as this is considered universally (in all cultures) as the true religion rather than acceptance without question of a set of beliefs which have been passed down throughout centuries and millennia which may have been true for the founders of those religions but not understood by subsequent followers and professional priestly class. And beliefs alone which we hold on to so tightly for security do not normally help during actual crisis. Anyway, a bit of long winded defence (which is a bit late for Hallaj 😀), but I wish you all the best.
Sarmad remained a Muslim until his execution. He was executed mainly due to political reasons as he was a spiritual guide to Dara Shikoh. There's no evidence of him accepting Hinduism.
In Persian there is a literary word called Hallaj-var (like Hallaj). This refers to a person that express their opinion without fearing the consequences.

Talk about a gem and serendipity. I have been reflecting on the Buddha and the term “Tathagata” (or “Thusness” and “Suchness” or “Thus Come” and “Thus Gone”). This term or state of being sounds like what you are saying about al-Hallaj’s “al haqq” moment. An ultimate truth or understanding of the nature of reality - which is the state of dissolution of the self, ego, and permanence (e.g. anatta, anicca, and sunyata in Buddhism) - where one becomes all and nothing all at once. Al-Hallaj’s “I am the Truth” moment sounds similar to the Buddha’s Enlightenment or Tathagata state of “Thusness” and “Suchness” (having already “Thus Come” and Thus Gone”). This form body isn’t important anymore after you experience “al-Haqq.” I always learn something new when I watch your videos - but this is a true gem. Thank you! 🙏

maqam baqa bel allah means state of abiding by allah.
maqam fana in Sufism/Irfan = realization of annata (no self )
maqam baqa in Sufims/Irfan = abiding in Nibbana
In Theravada Buddhism to realize no-self or anhilation of self they employ vippassna to investigate the five aggregates of self and then realization of no-self, the first veil or fetter removed. then progrsses to nibbana
In Mahayana tantric and Tibetan Buddhism there are many methods. One is employing deity yoga and mantrayana just like thikr and divine attributes in Sufism to realize emptiness (of self). It is reported by advanced Sufists that at the stage of fana, they lose theirselves and never find it again, it is not really anhilated but the realization that self is unreal or illusary.
It seems Sufism adopted the latter Mahayana/Tibetan methods, and fabricated a Hadeth "follow wisdom even to China", which scholars of Hadeth state this Hadeth was fabricated and never mentioned by prophet Mohammed. Sufists fabricated this Hadeth to refer to methods used in north India and China.
"History is complicated" is how I start most conversations when talking about people, events and beliefs. If only people knew
Sheikh Mansur Al-Hallaj is highly respected within the Sikh tradition as well, as someone who figured out the Truth of Reality, of Allah, and His relationship with the world. He is accepted as a true disciple of God within the Anandpur Durbar of Guru Gobind Singh (the 10th Guru). Beautiful video.

This is amazing! Thank you so much, Filip, for introdusing al hallaj. I truly enjoyed it. I have been curious about Al-hallaj ever since you introduced "Ana al-haqq" in one of your videos. He is undeniably controversial. I was even more shocked by his other writings, far more than 'Ana al-Haqq.' It was his views on Satan that truly unsettled me. I do understand why he is such a controversial figure. It makes me wonder whether he reached a deeper level of annihilation (if there are levels to it), or if his experience is commonly shared and he was simply more vocal about it. That could explain why so many figures have been defending him. I wonder if the Sufi community were more open about their spiritual experiences, perhaps he wouldn’t be seen as so controversial.
If sufi community ever had a chance to become more vocal about their deep sense of spiritual reality I am afraid there will be more Mansoor's and more burnt bodies of saints!
regarding the question of there being levels to fana fillah (Annihilation in Allah), one of my teachers has said that, the wine is the same but don't be fulled by the myriad shapes of cup bearers
Which I understood to mean that fana is the same, but like that Allah, “Among them were those to whom Allah spoke, and He raised some of them in degree.” (Quran 2:253) that some have a depth about the expression of wisdom that Allah provided

Finally you got to Al Hallaj. Thank you. There are a few more stories of Al Hallaj from Iran and India that you missed. There is this incidence outside a Zoroastrian fire temple - by which Hallaj was walking . Hallaj just snapped his fingers and the fire of the temple sanctum - just blew out. In India he is said to have been influenced by monist mystics of Hinduism - which strengthened his adherence to monism and led to his powerful utterances. These strongly resonate with similar monistic utterances of the same period in India

Al-Hallaj encompasses all that which could not be said he said that which even our beloved prophet Muhammad was not allowed to say to the most closest of his companions so Allah hidden them in the Quran Allah unlock those secrets for Al-Hallaj not that our beloved prophet Muhammad wasn't aware of such state of being, he was, but had to be kept secret because mind's won't ready for such secrets state of being revealed. Instead it was place in the heart's of the companions that could withstand such lefty state. The highest of them been Ali. Just imagine if our beloved prophet Muhammad made those claims what would have happened. So Allah used the "hu" to shield our prophet. Al-Hallaj encompasses all that the companions of the prophet was the prophet been the light of reality. Al-Hallaj died the death of Hassan and Hussane Ali and Uthman Umar and Abubakar the Martyrs. Indeed Al-Hallaj died the death of a Martyr. He had to reveal those secrets by Devine command. Just as Iblis had not to bow down. Allah did not command the angels to worship Adam He only command them to bow down. Didn't the parents and brothers of Yusuf bow down to to him, Yusuf?. Yes Iblis only worship Allah but he instigate humans to disobey the commands of Allah and indirectly or directly worship him Iblis but in reality Iblis knows that the only one to be worship is Allah but he can't reveal that to the children of Adam. In the Quran Iblis make a very profound statement. Look it up and understand.

His mistake was revealing his experience to people who could never understand it because they hadn't experienced it (yet, or at all, depending on the individual). You need to be very delicate when talking about experiences like that, because it can come off as very arrogant and people will misunderstand any words uttered in the joyous ecstasy of that kind of mystical spiritual experiences.
Nowadays people who experience the same thing and revealing it will be considered astray from teaching of Islam.. so its better to talk bout it with people whom understand it..

This is a lyrics from an arabi Malayalam song about Sheik Abdul Kadar Jeelani r.a , titled as Muhiyideen maala written on 17th century by Qazi Muhammed of Kerala. It says as the quote of Sheikh Jeelani r.a saying ' If I was present on the day when Hallaj was killed I would have hold their hand ( from killing him).' This song Muhiyideen maala used to be recited by mothers of every orthodox Sunni malayali household and is still famous. So Hallaj's name was familiar from my childhood. One note about the last verse at 23:16 , the translation you did of وُجِدت is not „I found you“ but more of „you became“ or „you were found“. It is hard to exactly translate its essence but something along the line of „you appeared“. the reason why it is not „I found you“ because in this sentence it is not a verb as you can see from the diacritics over the letters but a passive verb. „I found you“ would be written as وَجَدت, and for this sentence it would be وَجدتك and not وَجدت أنت.
However, that is an extremely impressive translation to a very hard verse to understand!

During their time they all spoke and wrote in their original Persian language which their books today are still teached about in college's across the world.. while during ancient times the Arab khalifa's we're completely against Iranian philosophers, Sufi's, poet's and academic teachers who were killed, tortured and ridiculed because of their works and ideology which started many legendary campaigns from different regions of iran against the arab khalifa's and directly the reason iranians kept their ancient identity and language.. unlike neighboring Assyrians, Babylonians, Levantine, Egyptians etc

Anyway, harsh reactions to words is not totally unheard of; beginning with the assassination of the female poet; Asma bint Marvan in Medina, and continuing with the extrajudicial killing of Dr Shahnawaz Kanbar last Wednesday night in Mirpurkhas near Karachi.
Hallaj’s official charges of being a Qarmatian rebel wishing to destroy the Kaaba, or his sympathies for Zanji slave rebellions (who were shipped in staggering numbers for draining marshes near Basra), themselves are unlikely to stand up in any court, and deserve scholarly analysis and perhaps a video on the extent of the slave trade in successive Khalifats from freedom of Ballal to capture of Yazidi women and children not long ago.
Anyway, this is an excerpt from Britanica’s entry under Hallaj:
“Not long before his arrest al-Ḥallāj is said to have uttered the statement “Anā al-ḥaqq” (“I am the Truth”-i.e., God), which provided cause for the accusation that he had claimed to be divine. Such a statement was highly inappropriate in the view of most Muslims. Furthermore, this was the kind of theosophical (divine wisdom) idea that was associated with the Qarmaṭians and the supporters of the Zanj slaves. There was no consensus about al-Ḥallāj, however. The long, drawn-out trial proceedings were marked by indecision. After his arrest in Sūs and a lengthy period of confinement (c. 911-922) in Baghdad, al-Ḥallāj was eventually crucified and brutally tortured to death. A large crowd witnessed his execution. In a sense, the Islāmic community (ummah) had put itself on trial, for al-Ḥallāj left behind revered writings and supporters who courageously affirmed his teachings and his experience. Skipping over the tortures and the ultra savage treatment of a saintly person (who in another culture like India would have been considered a Jnani who has attained the height of religious insight), as political intrigue and norms of a distant past in a week when a Pakistani doctor (and another person a week before) were murdered on accusations of blasphemy on a post on social media, is the height of insensitivity or ignorance, or downright cowardice.
There is (to this day) a common saying in Persian when asking about someone’s courage:

There are 2 propositions here;
One that Hallaj lied,
and the second; that he had similar arrogance to Satan, both rejecting Adam due to the feeling that he (Satan this time) was better than Adam.
The first accusation is very difficult to prove. Hallaj was expressing a truth (according to him) that he come upon through his own experience of enlightenment, which is something also known as Eshragh (in Suherwadi’s school), Erfan,…,or outside Islamic traditions; Moksha (Hindu traditions), Satori (Zen), etc.
For those who have had their own experience of Reality/union with the Devine, it is absolutely real. So much so, that they see their lives before that event as a mere dream.
So given the passage of time and absence of any similarity enlightened person among those who tried Hallaj or now between us (at least talking for myself) we cannot accuse him of lying. (Please note that I ruled out the absence of any enlightened person amongst the persecutors of Hallaj for their utter violence towards Hallaj as one common feature of enlightenment in all cultures is understanding of identity of ourselves and all life I.e. compassion and love as they will see every being as themselves)
So, we can not really establish that Hallaj lied.
On the second charge of arrogance which is a 2 prong charge; one; Hallaj’s arrogance, and the second; Satan’s arrogance.
Well, Hallaj never claimed that he was better than Adam, and arrogance per se is not a hanging crime. Is it?!
On the second charge of Satan considering himself better than Adam, it would be unfair to rule for punishment of Hallaj for Satan’s crime, although that sort of justice seems to be a common practice during the abassid Khalifate (and even now in that former territory) as there is a saying from that time which is famous in Persian and goes like this:
گنه کرد در بلخ آهنگری
به شوشتر زدند گردن مسگری
A blacksmith committed a sin in Balkh,
For his crime, a coppersmith was be-headed in Shushtar
(fyi Balkh is an ancient city in today’s Afghanistan, and Shushtar is another ancient city Southwest of Iran)
Anyway we diverged a bit, but I don’t think we can come to a conclusion one way or another about Satan’s refusal to worship Adam, for the following reasons;
Not knowing Adam personally, but judging from his descendants (us human beings!) couldn’t we too sympathise with his decision being an Angel and loyal servant of God since beginning of time (earlier?!-No that can be meaningless…) being asked to worship Adam someone other than God?! That would be almost textbook definition of شرک ‘Shirk’ which is what Hallaj had said.
Another issue (which is more of an issue for our post-modern human culture and less for the prescientific Bronze age people) is the whole question of literal understanding of Adam and Eve, and Paradise, and Satan etc. (rather than their symbolic meaning) as we have no evidence for those assertions that could be accepted in a modern court of law which would throw them out of court as mere ‘hearsay’, and mythical beliefs (as useful as they are symbolically for guiding us)
I think also that the evidence for Evolution of species outweighs the Adam and Eve hypothesis for human ancestry. studies in comparative religion also shows a very close relationships between Satan and Ahriman (an ancient Zoroastrian dualistic belief) that had entered Judaism post Babylonian exile (where those cultures met). It continued In Christianity and later into Islam. The same is likely to be true for the concept of Paradise which again is an ancient Persian word Pardis (walled garden) which became Paradise in English, and Ferdos in Arabic as there is no P in Arabic.
…anyway on the balance of evidence, I’m sure you would agree with me that Hallaj was innocent of those charges and likely that he was a saintly man and speaking from his own experience/ his own truth as his judges and persecuters I.e. the professional Imamams, and Mojtaheds, and the Khalifeh and his Vizier had more reason and motivation to lie than a man who put his life in line, and paid the ultimate price with serenity as told by witnesses.
But for us, I think, the ultimate verification of Hallaj’s claim can come only through our own enlightenment/awakening, as this is considered universally (in all cultures) as the true religion rather than acceptance without question of a set of beliefs which have been passed down throughout centuries and millennia which may have been true for the founders of those religions but not understood by subsequent followers and professional priestly class.
And beliefs alone which we hold on to so tightly for security do not normally help during actual crisis.
Anyway, a bit of long winded defence (which is a bit late for Hallaj 😀), but I wish you all the best.
