- A visa refusal under section 221(g) of the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA) means the applicant did not establish eligibility for a visa to the satisfaction of the consular officer, as is required under U.S. law, specifically section 291 of the INA. When an applicant is refused under 221(g), it means the consular officer determined that the applicant was not eligible for a visa after completing and executing the visa application and any required interview. It is possible that a consular officer will reconsider a visa application refused under 221(g) at a later date, based on additional information or upon the resolution of administrative processing, and determine that the applicant is eligible. When a consular officer refuses a case under 221(g), she or he will convey to the applicant whether the applicant is required to provide any further documentation or information, or whether the case requires additional administrative processing.

I was refused under 221g on 11 June and my passport was taken together with my sponsorship letter. For three weeks I check and it remained refused with last updated date as 11 June. I just checked and last updated date is 8 July and it’s still refused. Is that it? I mean I haven’t received any email or call from the embassy. What does this mean please?

Thanks for the informative video. We got our expedited interview in August. They gave us white slip 221. After 2 months sending some documents they emailed us to send them our passport for visa issuance. It’s already 2 weeks our passports are with them. we haven’t heard back from them. And the status still under administrative processing. Is it normal?

Hello, I checked and my wife’s application says “Ready,” but she already did the interview. The interview went well and she was approved. No refusal or administrative process was said to her. She was told, “your visa is approved.” It has been two weeks now no passport back. I emailed the embassy and I was told the visa application is on administrative process. I’m confused. She was told approved and was never asked for any extra documents or administrative process. The only thing I’m thinking and please let me know if I’m wrong. My 2022 tax transcript was not uploaded on the day of the interview due to technical difficulties. She gave them the 2022 tax transcript and they make a copy. After the interview I tried uploading it again and it was successfully submitted. Could that be the reason? When is the right wait times before I get a lawyer!?

This is equally my case right now. Had my interview 3 weeks ago and was given 221 g afterwards. I submitted the additional docs the embassy needed 2 days after my interview but until now my case still shows ready. They keep updating it to 'READY' every single time. Please should we be worried?

Hello! We already received the interview appointment letter , the principal applicant and all the derivatives are included in the list. But when I checked the visa status check CEAC portal there are only two listed there. What should I do?
If they are listed in ceac account you filled iv application for each one you will be okay
The other 3 derivatives that were not listed in the ceac visa status check already aged out. But as I’ve calculate , they are still eligible under the CSPA. . We received the interview letter from NVC on January 1 then the ceac portal visa status check updated and Only 2 case number were there and tagged as “READY” . That’s where I am confused. In the interview date we’re all there but in the tracker of visa status we’re incomplete. Should we follow the nvc interview date letter and be complete during the interview? Since that’s what the NVC appointment letter provided?

Hi Sir, I got 221G form to submit additional marriage photos for dependent VISA, and I submitted pics immediately and when I check my VISA status on CEAC website after 2 days by case number it shows it shows "Approved". And below it also mentions that "However, a final screening step must still be completed prior to issuance that could lead a consular officer to conclude that you are not eligible for a visa. If that occurs, the consular officer will notify you that your application has been denied and your status will change to "Refused". Can you please guide me here

Hi, my interview done on Nov 1st 2023,we got 221g and submitted on 3rd Nov.
Visa status is refused but last updated date changed from 1st to 7th Nov.
I am not able to understand what does it mean since status is still refused.

Hi keerthi. Did Your case status Change to Administrative processing after re-submitted your passport or it changed thoroughly. Mine last case updated date has changed 4 times and still is refused. I interviewed on 31st May.

If you can let me know for what reason you got 221g I can suggest something or can get more clarity.

My husband was approved for a cr1 visa and was told to pick up his passport with visa within 10 business days. We checked the visa status checker after the interview, and the status was Administrative Processing for 2 days and then it was changed to Ready. Could this be due to a backlog in updating the system? Thank you for this video 😊

We had our interview and our cases we put under 221g and they asked us to send some documents and return back our passports since March up till date we haven't heard from the embassy but they have updated our cases twice and when i wrote the embassy they told me our visas numbers are not yet available what does that mean?

. After interview in us embassy in Islamabad, my visa was Denied under Section 214(b) of the INA, they gave me refusal letter of 114B at the time.
