Honestly, I’m really impressed by the Scrapman prop. I know it’s the not the most intricately made prop ever made, but it does still look cool.
haha thanks so much - I wanted it to look as rough as possible, which is perfect for me!! ;D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
I said he could look a little cuter but after seeing this I knew I could be hated
@@SamsTrains awesome video sam
The Scrapman looks terrifying
@@Dominic_812 yeah, He looks like a nightmare
This feels like the Discovery Channel, and I'm all for it.
Almost a mythbusters feel
haha thank you so much Danyl! :D
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
😎🏆🥇🚂
@@SamsTrains don't scrap Scotsman
This “salvage or scrap” thing seems like a good tv show idea!
Yes
Come to think about it, it would be good...
He should make more
But one where the scrap man comes out to distract him
Ikr? That's what I said!
@@louisianamainlineproductions If only Sam would see this comment.
I love how much this feels like an actual TV show. It's so entertaining and I can't wait to see what comes next (maybe also some models that can't be saved in the time too). Amazing as always Sam!
haha thank you so much! Hope you enjoy the rest! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Bro I just saw your comment on carsons post lmao
@@king_of_suddery I am EVERYWERE. Just kidding of course I'm not lol
I already love this series. I love the concept of restoring model locos, and think this series is very well made and exucuted.
Thanks so much - yeah I wanted to find a slightly more interesting way to do it! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
I admire how you at least try to fix the locomotives it is certainly rewarding when it works out!
Thanks so much - it's good fun! :D
My first didn’t go that well but I hope the next will be better
This is by far the best model railroading repair series I've ever seen!
The scrap-man got the coin, right?
Hey Sam, I had an idea on how to fix old Bachmann split chassis loco's. I know you don't have a metal 3D printer but you could 3D print new chassis for them turning them into normal chassis loco's, take the measurements of the old one and print. You'd have to fit them with wiper pickups, and since it wouldn't be as heavy as the original you could include compartnents and holes for led weights in the plastic chassis, it's worth a try.
I may be off my rocker but it's food for thought.
@@ryancinarkaya5791 In one of the recent Lawrie goes a little loco episodes on Lawries mechanical marvels UA-cam channel Lawrie had got 3D printed replacement parts for a old Mainline locomotive with a split chassis (pre Bachmann loco) and the parts you mentioned were used.
Great ideas! Yes it's the axles themselves that are the main point of failure - and you sure can 3D print new ones! I love the idea of trying to create an all-new chassis though, fascinating! :D
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
Okay, this new series is going to be epic! Glad to see you are actually putting that 3D printer to good use
Thanks so much! It's come in super handy already! :D
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
This production value is insane! It feels like a real tv show, great job Sam!
Just by the intro I already like the series 😂 Brilliant mate 🙂
Give Ist to me

Thank you so much - really glad you liked it! :D
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
I can only imagine the engines that weren’t repaired screaming in agony once the scrap man comes chomping it like a mad man
Oh you know that's going to be true ;)
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
I do that when I see him
Great work, I've always been fascinated by the life and death of a locomotive, and also general restoration is very therapeutic & satisfying to watch. Can't wait for more, I completely lost track of time watching this. I know people have already said this, but this really does feel like an actual show from the Discovery Channel.
To be honest I was a little hesitant at first being like oh no what is this going to be like but now I really want to see what happens next and who gets scrapped great video
Thanks very much David - hope you like the rest of the series! :D
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
Wow, hope you're proud of this Sam! The production levels are excellent, better than many TV stuff with big budgets, and many projects I've video edited on. An excellent watch.
I've been really impressed with the ramp up in production value these days Sam! You're constantly coming up with ideas to freshen up your channel which started with a very simple core concept. Its one of the many reasons why I love this channel, good job Sam!
Thank you so much - I'm doing my best! That's very kind of you to say, really appreciate it!
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
Amazing job Sam! You made it look like just a tv show! You could both salvage and scrap it! Save parts can be reusable and use the rest of it as a scrap model for a scrapyard display on your layout!
Great idea you have ! I like the idea to show us easy tricks to save a run-down engine, with a challenge on time to do the job.
Anyway, you are highly skilled. I'm amazed to have been able to hardwire a DCC decoder on my Hornby Peckett without destroying everything (first time to do a proper use of a soldering iron for me !), so people with highly above average manual skills like you are my heroes.
Keep on the good job done ! You are highly inspiring.
I’m definitely going to love this new series, I should send my Rivarossi Challenger locomotive to be on Salvage or Scrap as it needs some work
Yeah there should be fan contestants (like every once in a while a fan could send their locomotive for this series) that would be interesting
haha awesome - though I'm not sure if I'd dare attempt that! ;D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
I'm loving this series. It feels a TV show and it's better and more entertaining than shows on TV.
Love the idea for the show! It reminds me of classic Discovery Channel TV shows, and it could provide inspiration for others to attempt to repair other engines.
This feels so much like a television series. Well done Sam.
Thanks so much - really glad you liked it! :D
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
This is one of my favourite videos on this channel. A suggestion - you could get a hornby clockwork M Series (or MO Series). You can pick them up cheap in bad condition. It would certainly be a challange!
I never knew saving a model train could be so exhilarating
this was epic and actually intense at some times :D
I really enjoyed this and can't wait to see more!
It honestly baffles me how you've managed to make engaging, unique, and interesting model train content for 10 years.
Honestly I’m really impressed with this episode! Looking forward to future episodes of this series! 👍
Thanks so much - hope you like the rest!! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Wow, very good!
Just like so many cable TV shows, all it's missing is about 50% more hype and 100% more commercial breaks.
Thank you for an excellent choice on a new series, looking forward to many more.
Well done for getting that Hornby 0-4-0 Tank Engine restored and back into working order again, especially making her a brand new smokebox door.
I definitely do not want to see these precious model locomotives be sent to the Scrapman, especially the Triang Flying Scotsman, that will never do.
I absolutely love this series Sam! Keep up the good work!
Wow, Sam, you make a 25 year old Dowlais 0-4-0 Tank Engine feel and look like it's fresh out of the box. Absolutely marvellous.
This salvage or scrap is really cool. Well done and keep it up Sam!👍🏻👍🏻
I'm not a fan of many things on this channel anymore but this seems like a fun series! Very enjoyable.
This series is definitely gonna help me because thanks to you Sam I fixed an old tri ang train my pop owned unlike the other where I got a misinterpretation lost the blob of carbon and had to restick it with glue thanks for this and I’ll be watching in the future
Let's hope that flying scotsman doesn't get scrapped
Man have you boosted your production value for this series! right on the money, a bit silly but a hell of a lot of entertainment! 👍👍
haha thanks a lot - yeah I thought I'd do this in the style of American reality shows, lol! ;D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
This was absolutely awesome.
I can't wait to see the next round!
Thanks so much David - hope you enjoy the next ones! :D
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
This is a really great video. Looking forward to more of these 😀
I like this series so far, your Pleasant personality really makes it more enjoyable.
I watch your videos for some time now, and it's the first time I feel the need to say what a great video this is. That's not to say that others are not, but this one is just wonderful.
Oh wow thanks so much - that's amazing to hear!! :D
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
This was very well made! Original too, never thought of making a challenge timed show of restoring model locos, I think I've seen everything, and then something new comes along to prove me wrong! Well done!
Thanks a lot - yeah I was pretty happy with the idea!! :D
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
I absolutely LOVE this, with some reviews or other videos I watch certain parts and skip others and sometimes skip them entirely. But THIS was unskipable masterpiece.
Also I would 110% buy that T-shirt if it was in your shop
I’m a American train guy but I love watching sams trains
That's amazing to hear Timothy - thank you!! :D
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
It’s the spiritual successor to his “Loco Teardown” series!
😮what a great new addition to your channel the intro to how the show works was almost wild
Sam, I just love this video; and I am looking forward to more in this series. Excellent production values together with your dry sense of humor make it very entertaining. And I see you have wasted no time integrating your new and impressive 3D printing skills into your material. Thanks for making my Saturday better! Cheers from Wisconsin.
The work that has been done on heritage railways in restoring old locos and rolling shows you that in principle anything can be repaired! That 3D printer would allow you to design and produce a complete layout. Using the 3D printer to create lineside structures and buildings would mean keeping within the limitations of the resolution it is capable of. Why not have a go at replacing some of those cardboard things on your layout with your 3D printed creations? You've got that signal box to start with. Then platforms and waiting rooms! Thanks for all your efforts in uploading these videos in your usual inimitable style!
This format seems to be working really well so far. I enjoyed that.
Thank you so much - that's good to hear! :D
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
this is now my favorite thing in the world, definitely keep this series going Sam i love it! can't wait for the episode involving the 57xx, idk why. but i love panniers. 94's gotta be my fav.
Talk about creepy. I'm sorry that my brain feels like a plateful of scrambled eggs, due to the heatwave. Here's a timer experiment I think you might want to try. Be warned, it's a dangerous one. Only try it if you dare to. Someone has taken out the motor belonging to the E2, and replaced it with a ticking time bomb. You have to try and prise the E2's body and chassis apart, in 5 minutes, before the time bomb explodes and the E2 with it. If you succeed, within 3 minutes, the bomb will automatically stop ticking. If you fail before the ticking timer reaches zero, scramble away quick-smart. The bomb will blow up and it will be GAME OVER for the E2. Sounds scary I'm sure.
Don't worry, my brain feels like it's been injected by Chili peppers... maybe this is the end for both of us?
I think your challenge could be done - it's quite easy to remove the body... I'd just have to use that 5 minutes to take the bomb far away from the house and bury it somewhere it couldn't hurt anyone!
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
I love the idea of this series. I loved the video. Thank you Sam
Scrapman is the stuff of nightmares! :0
When can I expect him to get his own T-shirt? :D
haha I don't think he'd ever give permission for that! ;D
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
He is too creepy for me ):
Great to see this 0-4-0 saved. No.9 was my first loco in 1996, and I revived mine after over a decade only a few weeks back.
lol the scrapman...wth!!...such a cool idea ..i admit i havent had my train out in yrs but still have a big interest and have kept all my stuff for the future...learning alot with all the new products and techniques, just from your channel alone...
Loved it Sam! Brilliant new series!
I have a great feeling about this new series of yours! Interesting and a good fun watch! Great work as always, Keep up the great work!
The production quality has gone through the roof this is absolutely amazing I want more
Thanks so much Luke! :D
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
Already a massive fan of the series. Awesome idea! Looking forward to more (and watching Scrapman getting fed) :D
One saved scrap loco I was able to work on, I got a triang 3f with a terrible body (looked like the front had been melted) but working motor, and a Hornby James with no tender I got years ago at a car boot sale. I moved the gear to the axle of the James chassis (needed to use James' chassis because of the pony truck attachment) and then used a dremel to cut space in the James bodywork to allow the motor to fit. The rest of the triang body i carefully cut up to fix things like the roof and footplates of my other 3fs, now I have 3 tender driven locos and my nephew loves watching James run past with long loads of trucks. (James is still hoping for coaches one day!)
An awesome series idea, a great first episode too. I bet you won't get that mainline 57xx fixed though...
I've spent the last few days getting my garden railway sorted. I've wired across the first lift out section, pinned the track down, cut across the board joints, wired 2 phono plug/sockets in to power the removable track but still be removable, and added locating pins on either end. It now works well, with my 08 in charge of all 22 of my wagons.
Next up, further extending round the garden when my local wood yard gets more decking planks in. And also testing with my 14xx and autocoach across the joint. I'm also thinking just wire jumper cables between each track joint to supplement the fishplates instead of wiring a full on bus wire, which would take a lot of wire and also be very hard to install with all the plants around.
What an exciting new show idea Sam!
I can see you’ve put a lot of production value into it, I hope it pays off for you!
Thanks a lot Alpha - fingers crossed mate! :D
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
Great video Sam, maybe you could do an experiment where you see if model trains can run at different temperatures.
Thank you! Cool idea - like the freezer one? :D
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
This is a fantastic and high quality production! Very enjoyed
Now this is an interesting series idea that I like, if only because it gives me more of an insight into the workings of engines. I do have one of those Arthen canadian railway loco's and they have an interesting design. Today's engine was my second train ever too, still run the little bugger around
Absolutely loved it, had a big dumb smile on my face the entire time. Very entertaining and quite unique. Keep up the good work!
Very excited to see more of this. Good work, Sam!
This is my second time watching this series and I thought of the TTTE season 4 episode where Skarloey breaks a spring and says that older engines can't keep up with the newer ones, but his driver says, "They can if they're mended."
Sam, we need to speak to BBC about getting you a segment!
haha thank you!! That would be fun!! xD
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
It's the first time I've seen a machine so broken that it even takes money to pay Charon... Sam, this "Salvage or Scrap" show is a very good idea (I didn't want to write "bloody" here) ! Well done ! And you MUST save that 4-4-0 American from Rivarossi.
This is why I love this channel
This is incredible! This is exactly like a made for TV production!
I have the same model and that model was apart of a set that helped me introduce myself into model railways and it’s still going strong.
Ahh fantastic - yes quite a few people have said they got this in a set, cool stuff! :D
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
Brilliant, great job on the intro , looks like a proper TV Show , loving this series already .
Thanks so much Victor - hope you enjoy the rest! :D
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
This is absolutely amazing. I can't wait for more. Also as a tip you should make an advert for it in youtube shorts format as for what ever reason shorts on UA-cam are broken and get loads more views so it might bring in some more subs. I really can't wait for the next installment as the challenges get harder and maybe we might see some action from the scrap man not that that would be a particularly good thing but interesting at least.
Great video can’t wait for the next one it’s good to see neglected locomotives brought back to life keep up the good work
that model's before and after is LITERALLY the palpatine meme
Wow raised the bar Sam....again! Very slick.
Awesome series!!!! Can't wait for more
OH well done Sam, great new concept, very entertaining loved it! Are you going to have an appeals system for viewers to add in minutes to keep the scrap man at bay? lol
Fantastic production values on this Sam. Super skills.
Ngl I really enjoyed this, you should definitely do more.
Thanks so much! Six more episodes on the way! :D
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
I'm really impressed with this new series. I like the logo, the background prop, and the scrapman. This is really worth subscribing.
Thanks so much Cody - appreciate it mate!! :D
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
A surprise to be sure but a very epic series. Hope they all make it out of the repair shop alive, especially that American steam loco
Thanks so much - more episodes coming soon to see! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
One episode in and i'm already super excited to see more!!
Thanks so much! More coming soon! :D
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
I really want a part 2 of this episode, because this was really cool and satisfying seeing you fix some model trains.
sam is a madman now lol the quarintine kept hime away from the hobby store to long lol
haha maybe you're right!! xD
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Really nice new content for your channel! Even if you did cheat by designing the smoke box door outside of the 27 minutes 🤣
This should be a TV Show! Very entertaining!! It reminds me of Scrapheap Challenge
Hahah, great fun! I was almost expecting Wallace and Gromit walking in, lol.
haha you never know!! xD
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
Another brilliant idea for a series, great editing work. Very professional feel to it
Many thanks Steven, that's lovely to hear!! :D
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
You know, I really don’t care much for scale trains… But, I rather enjoy your channel. You have such a cool personality.
Super excited to see that little Rivarossi on this series!
Oooooohhh...Imma like this! Hopefully the CN diesel is a survivor!
I love how you fixed it so well! It would have sucked to see that sharp looking model go! 😄
Thank you!! It's much more like it now! :D
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
the production quality is amazing!
A verry good video on
serviceing and 3 d printing spare parts.
I liked the smoke box door .
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
This is reminding me of the various Tender Engines in my parents attic that need a look over, might have to pay a visit soon,
Love it.
I have always had 2 phrases in modeling
1) make do and mend.
And
2) your ability to create a new model is limited to you imagination.
Keep up the good work.
PS I want some trams🚋🚋🚋
I love this! Great job Sam! I can't wait to see more of this series! :D
OMG HI
