    The repair looks great! For finishing the commutator and all metal wheels, I've found that a felt wheel on the Dremel with some emery buffing compound gives it a mirror-like shine that should further extend the life of the parts over the small abrasions made by the wire wheel. It might be worth giving a try sometime. :)

    Although not the best models in the world, you certainly appreciate the standardisation the of the 80s Hornby locos and clip fit approach when trying turn one around quickly! This has reminded me I need to sort out my V1 APT motor, which is literally the most bogging thing I have seen.

  • @FlatMagnets1992
    @FlatMagnets1992 2 роки тому

    Right. I am SO jealous of the know-how it takes to work miracles like this. That's not even mentioning the insanely short time it was completed in. I so badly want to be able to service my own locos but I really never know what I'm doing and other than cleaning the wheels and pickups I'm pretty much totally helpless always. Fantastic video! Just amazing - beyond my comprehension, really. And what a genius idea to sell them on eBay afterwards, too! Brilliant.

    I was given a box from a friend of my father which was full of Tyco freight cars and locos, of which on caught my eye. It is a 0-4-0 Pennsylvania steamer. I was taking it apart and found a white liquid in the worn gear. I thought it was old grease until I dug further in the box and found Elmers glue, it didn't take much for me to realize that someone had put glue in the loco.

    Sam, what if you can get it working, but you can't get it clean and/or presentable? It would be unfair to the engine just to scrap it for that reason, especially if you've sweated bullets to get it running. I suppose you could use it as a freight only loco, but then you run into the "A4 on heavy coal train" problem. What would you do?

      @@SamsTrains Hey Sam, no worries abt the baseboard... BUT STILL I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS SAM!
      Just wondering, have you done a video on a Hornby Castle Class ' Wellington' ?
      If not, you may want to review one. I got one recently and the detail( well for me at least) I exquisite!

    Hey Sam! Could you try a model from Brazil? They're made by Frateschi though they're not as detailed as the European or American ones they are very cheap.
    I love your videos bye.

    Don't think I've ever seen a motor so grotty. It leave me to suggest that I don't think the body was ever taken off.

    No wonder everyone’s electric bills are going up. Every time this sets off it takes half the energy out of the national grid. Somewhere in Scotland a village is plunged in to darkness every time it changes direction.

    I'm surprised you don't have a scrap yard area but then again you pretty much be the Lord and Savior for these engines
