Sam, I was hoping you would give a safety warning about the rotating wire brush. Important to wear good eye protection in case in the process a small piece of wire gets dislodged at high speed and penetrates the eye. If this happens it may put you off model trains for life.
Other users of the wire brush do stress this and show themselves with eye protection goggles on.
If this saves one rare eye accident it is worth it.

Should have held the auction on here, That way we do not get ripped of by eBay, They charge customs and other charges to Australia, yet here in Australia, we are not meant to pay customs tax unless the total is over $1000.00. So it would cost me more for the "eBay tax" and postage than Sam's Train salvaged train. Pity I was going to buy it just so I had a Sams train. I might not model this era, but hey Sam fixed it.

What a relief 😅 I was scared for the fate of this loco 🇧🇪😎 I have the very same Lima, my copy looks slightly better, but you did a good job in rescuing this poor little thing 👍

I know this is just a bit of fun but No model train should be scrapped out of hand. Even if it is only to donate parts to other engines. I would take any engines save them and use them for future projects. There should never be a time limit to these projects. But for excitement value it does work. As for the motor I would replace that with a cd motor given the time. For cleaning the armature and wheels I suggest T Cut and a spray of contact cleaner. It works quickly and well plus being less abrasive.

Ah, I stilll have this first one! My dad had lights installed at the front and rear. Brings so much memories back from my days as a young boy playing with this Jouef trainset.

ambandoned in an attic for 30 years, restored in an attic in 30 minutes. I can't deicide if the loco hates attics or loves them

A good video series would be to drop the time limit bit and restore the thing properly. That is something I would like to see. (and the Mythbusters type cut scenes are a bit cringey)

I would dump the pantagraph and couplings in a tub of viniger, then shake it a bit. Leave it for 20 mins and it should be clean of rust 👍

This was awesome, Sam, I loved it, super glad you managed to fix this one up, that time-o-matic keeps reminding me of one of Wallace's inventions, except this one works as it should! -TheImperialDiamondSpinosaurus

Can I suggest a running session with these Salvage or Scrap locomotives? I know you are selling on this one, but would it be possible with ones you don't sell on / don't sell on immediately?

    Salvage or Scrap
Sam is used to working quickly when he has to. He seems to be good at working against a time limit. However, come to a really rusty model steamy, the no rust visible rule was in place. The steamy was an old American tender engine, extremely dirty and rusty.
"OK, how much time am I going to get?" Sam asked his timer.
"20 minutes," came the creepily silent reply. The young man swallowed nervously, his body shaking with fear that he might not succeed for a first. Sighing with resignation....
"Fine, start the clock." Sam began working furiously, beads of sweat breaking out on his forehead. The amount of rust he had to get rid of was more difficult to wash off than first thought. There was no time to think twice, there were only 15 minutes remaining as it was.
"Please don't fail me," pleaded Sam in desperation. "I'm running out of time here." Cleaning the motor and body was fairly easy, but one wrong move and he'd have to start over again. Tears of fright welled up in his eyes. Would he manage to get the model clean and working in time? Or would the creepy scrapman start knocking? Working frantically hard, Sam noticed he had only, gulp, 5 minutes left!
"YIKES!" he shrieked. "This has to come off!" He accidentally cut the forefinger of his right hand, yet it was the least of his problems. The young man tried his hardest to remove all the grime and rust, but his efforts were in vain. Oh fiddlesticks.
The clock showed time had run out completely, and there came a creepy knocking! The scrapman! Sam had to watch his precious steamy being torn apart.
"Oh well, I guess not every model can be saved," muttered Sam to himself. Let's hope he doesn't run out of time for real.
