    Some of the canon Nephalem names were announced after this video was made. Mostly from Blizzard adding them into Heroes of the Storm. Which is why some of them are missing in the actual video. I am not a time traveler, no matter how much I wish I was.
    I actually regret stating my opinions on some plot points and characters through-out the video, and wish I would've held off until the very end of the video.
    Once again, not a time traveler.
    Thank you for watching :)

    Leah not believing her uncle Cain's stories is cute and all, but what about ALL THE OTHER PEOPLE who saw the slaughters with their own eyes? It was only 20 years ago. It's like your grandpa telling you about WW2 and you're like "haha good old crazy grandpa"

      It's more like the stories in the bible occurring 20 years ago and people not believing it, which guaranteed, there were PLENTY of people who didn't believe those stories either.

    • @MrKZee
      @MrKZee 7 років тому +7

      Well let’s consider the total slaughter, so very few people have survived and are witnesses, plus, this is not a real world, and even in the real-world people tent to do not talk about bad things, because bringing these memories make you feel bad and even might put you into depression (WW2 is bad comparison). And pretty much many of them were adults, so 20 years is quite enough. In addition, she was grown by her uncle who is 100% nerdy-diablo-story-lover, who with high probability was avoiding people ‘writing a scenario for diablo 3’, thus she had not many people around to talk to. Seriously, in the beginning he’s in the old cathedral, wherein he stayed for who knows how long. So, it depends on your position in filling the story gaps.
      Of course this story isn’t perfect, but should it be to fascinate us?;)You can either enjoy it or disassemble into imperfections, it’s up to you to decide.

    If there's one thing that pissed me off it was Cain's death. That man has been through some shit and he died from a lackey of all things. He could have at least been killed by a formidable foe, like one of the evils.

      Chrane I agree with Tyrael being turned back into an angel as well. He had this feeling of omnipotence as Archangel of Justice. It felt as if you would absolutely win if he was on your side. Not to mention he just looked cooler. As a human he feels kind of worthless as a companion, almost a hindrance..

  • @wehavebiscuits
    @wehavebiscuits 6 років тому +156

    I think a big part of what makes it cartoonish is that you have all the bad guys explain in explicit detail what their intentions, motives and plans are. In d1 and d2 they made a good job of the villains being relatively silent and then instead have Deckard Cain do the grunt work of explaining the bad guys intentions.
    This.. is just really cheesy at times :/

    About an hour ago, this video was claimed by the so called MCN "Illustrated Sound Music".
    They claimed the music in the scene at 7:55 - 9:07
    They obviously own nothing in this video.
    They've also claimed videos from hundreds, if not thousands of other creators at this point.
    They claim it's a "bug" but it seems more likely that they dumped the entire library of "Gustavo Canine Games" into the Copyright Matching System, since this is the channel through which they're doing the claims.
    Their statement reads that it's a bug and this will all be resolved in 24-48 hours, and in the meantime we should all dispute the claims.
    But they're still claiming more and more videos, while saying they're fixing it.
    I've pressed X to doubt so many times, my hands hurt.
    I know this doesn't really affect your viewing experience of the video, thankfully, but I still think it's worth informing you on what's going on behind the scenes.
    Hopefully this gets resolved soon, otherwise I'll just have to wait for those 30 days they have to dispute my counter claim to expire.
    The future is now, and right now I just want to go to bed.
    Screw this.

    • @itsChrane

      They just claimed the video AGAIN.

    The main problem i had with Diablo 3 was the story. They went from dropping story in a few places and leaving a lot up to the imagination. To having the prime evils spouting dialog like they were in an episode of scooby doo. Not to mention plot holes galore. It was a pretty piss poor job in their writing department.
    Secondly the first and second games had a dark and eerie feeling. They were a lot darker graphics wise and things would often surprise you by shooting off screen or out of view. Diablo 3's graphics are a lot lighter, you can see everything going on. Takes away a lot of the atmosphere the first 2 games had going for them.

    • @Android602715

      Meiru Lu I'd like to hear some of these complaints you have. As the story is pretty ridiculously in depth to be on par with scooby doo.

      None? Necromancer lives on and even took on an apprentice (who you meet in Diablo 3). Thanks to HotS, we also know his real name was Xul. The Assassin became a Demon Hunter trainer and is responsible for the next era of heroes. The Sorceress also took to training others and is the mentor of Li-Ming (canonical D3 Sorceress and also a HotS hero). The Amazon from D2 is also a hero in HotS. If her story there is to be believed, her real name is Cassia and she went back to their secluded homeland, alive and victorious.
      There are a few things here that you need to consider. First, the timeframe >> D1 around 1996, D2 around 2000, D3 around 2012. Not only were D1 and D2 closer together and with most of the same dev/team/company intact, D3 came over a decade later and was a borderline departure from the previous two. D1's characters got closure as there were fewer of them and the sequel was relatively fresh, timewise. D3 came out so much later and under a completely different development lens where I'm surprised they even bothered to recognize one character, nevermind give closure to ALL of them. The only reason the Necro got attention is because he was the most popular and frequently demanded, so they added one to D3.

    Azmodan is not actually talking to Leah when he talks to Leah in her Dream that Tyrael pulls her out of. He recognized her as Diablo's vessel and was speaking to DIABLO. That's why he says one by one OUR brethren have fallen into your trap.

      "Oh Uncle Deckard. You and your crazy stories lol....."
      BITCH THE DEAD ARE WALKING THE EARTH. I THINK WE CAN THROW LOGIC OUT THE WINDOW FOR NOW.
      Not to mention the reveal of her strength is full-on DBZ tier cheese. I immediately thought of Gohan when I saw that and laughed my ass off.

    • @zxzxzxz4370
      @zxzxzxz4370 8 років тому +2

      I feel the need to point this out. Seeing the undead walking the earth probalby wouldn't phase Leah simply because the Undead are not seen as unnatural in the world of Sanctuary. Seeing A pack of zombies are on par with seeing a pack of hungry wolves. This was even pointed out during a blizzcon event when Jesse Cox asked this very question.
      When you see the undead roaming around one would probably think, "Shit, gravedigger dug up the wrong grave." The magical and supernatural are very much part of the world of Sanctuary.
      So now taking that into account when a supposed meteor crashes into a cathedral, that had an underground mausoleum, then seeing a bunch of zombies shambling around afterwords wouldn't really scream, "END OF THE WORLD, END OF THE WORLD" when it's something almost expected to happen.

    • @Hipno702

      +zxzx “eztarg3t” zxz but if the supernatural is commonplace, why is the divine such a far jump from what she appears to be ordinary?

    I've been playing the games in the Diablo franchise since 1996, back when everyone was using dial-up modems. You're right, of course, there IS no Diablo without Deckard Cain. He's the first person (or almost the first if you went for Griswold or something) you talk to in Diablo I. He's there every step of the way in Diablo II. But in Diablo III ... in Act One, no less ... he's killed by butterflies.
    Notwithstanding the opinion, shared by many, that this was the stupidest death scene in video gaming history (and not even a cut-scene, but done within the game itself ... who the heck decided that CAIN of all people didn't rate a cut-scene?), what the hell did it gain the writers? Was the story somehow improved by that? I know the trope, of course; old mentor dies so the hero can step up. But that doesn't hold water, here. They should never have done it in the first place, the story doesn't need it. He's just *there* in the world of Diablo. Of course, this is the same group who decided to make every villain sound so over-the-top even a five-year old kid could tell the bad guys from the good guys ...
    Anyway, to your question, Chrane. Not sure I care too much about Tyreal and angel-ness, but yes, Cain should certainly be brought back EARLY in the next installment. I want to say I don't even care how they do it, but I'd better not say that. Knowing the modern Blizzard they'll screw that up, too. I'd prefer him to remain mortal, however, so he can stand around in town like he always has. Why? Why NOT? Lol the fans love him, screw logic, just bring him back.
    Oh, and please let them hire a real writer who knows dialogue and how all the characters in the game should speak to each other and to the character (if they even need to; there was WAY too much of that in DIII). George Lucas himself probably couldn't have messed up Diablo III's tone any worse than it was; they desperately need to go back to the drawing board and recreate the magic of Diablo II. They should also hire David Brevik to let him work on it; not be in charge, he wouldn't want that, just have him brainstorm and come up with ideas and things.

    Here to add new comments on a four year old video, thanks to the Diablo 4 reveal...
    First, wonderful job on these lore videos... being a newer fan who came into the series only playing Diablo 3 and now working on understanding the full breadth of the lore of all the games, these videos have been invaluable. So thank you for putting in the time and effort to bring these into being!
    Having seen it all now, I do understand why so many people are down on Diablo 3 compared to the other games... the villains’ plot expositions are really hamfisted and tend to center around how something “will be theirs”, and Deckard’s death is hard to take coming in the game with the obviously weaker writing and plot. But at the same time, since I don’t have quite the emotional attachment to the previous two games I don’t feel the disappointment quite as much. This still feels like a logical continuation of the first two games and the previously established lore... and with the Reaper of Souls included, you pretty much remove the thing which feels the most tonally dissonant with everything that came before (that whole “light triumphs over darkness” ending).
    I can also accept Cain’s death here more, probably because again I don’t have the greater attachment to him built by the first two games... ultimately, he is a chronicler and not a mighty warrior; up until Diablo 3, he rarely interacts directly with the actual plot of those games but merely “hangs out” with the heroes, gives some advice and writes of their exploits. It stands to reason that when directly assaulted by a boss-level minion of one of the prime evils, being a knowledgeable but otherwise normal human who was already an old man when we first met him years and years ago, it isn’t a point of shame for him to perish in that encounter... and as we often talk about the deceased, he lives on through his writings. Considering the amount of his books we all find scattered all over creation, I still hear his voice much more than any other character in that game, living or dead... probably even more than my own character’s voice. ^_^
    Here’s my own weird theory from analyzing all of this information... much like Tyrael gaining a mortal form, what if Deckard Cain was some sort of mortal manifestation of Malthael? Certainly I can’t think of a character who more completely exemplifies a seeker of wisdom more than Cain, and even though Malthael doesn’t go completely missing until after the end of Diablo 2... Tyrael does describe Malthael as being alone or away from the Council a lot even before that. Perhaps if Cain is some strange aspect of Malthael, Cain’s death and thus Malthael’s “first-hand” experience of that might be what leads him down the path to the Reaper of Souls.
    Probably completely wrong, but I thought it interesting enough to put to text... feel free to use other bits of canonical lore to disprove it if you’d like. Either way, Diablo 3 was still engaging enough for me to enjoy it on its own and then come seek out the full story in order to prepare for Diablo 4... which at least in its origins looks like a return to form for the series.

    How can there even be a Diablo when his soul stone was destroyed in the hell forge in Diablo 2? Same applies to all the prime evils. Only the lesser evils were still alive, but were banished to hell once they were defeated in sanctuary.
    Definitely would've been more interesting if Tyreal lost his power from destroying the world stone. In Diablo 2 it was implied that he was weakening. So a final heroic sacrifice to possibly save earth from hell would have been better.
    And to all the comments asking why was he made black. When the fuck did Diablo lore ever imply angels having races?

    • @affaasda9391
      @affaasda9391 6 років тому

      DSRT888 we destroy the soulstone to weaken him and make sure he does not just possess anyone (like Leoric's sons) and just banished straight to hell.
      About the black soulstone, I have no idea either. How the hell does it have all the evils again? I dont recall seeing it when we killed them, and the nephalem does not know of it either. It does not feel canon.

    • @custodialfatherintexas9362
      @custodialfatherintexas9362 6 років тому +2

      When you destroyed his soulstone, he was supposed to be banished TO THE VOID like Lilith if I recall correctly. He was not supposed to be in Hell or on Sanctuary (or in Heaven for that matter). However, it seems instead that Diablo was just wandering Sanctuary in a form that cannot possess anyone or affect the world around him for 20 years.
      Adria wandered around and "marked" the souls of the great Evils as they themselves wandered aimlessly around Sanctuary. Then, the black soulstone was completed and immediately set to SUCK and pulled his demon soul into it along with the souls of Andariel, Duriel, Mephisto, and Baal.
      Diablo probably didn't fight or struggle like the others.
      The more pertinent question is actually why Andariel and Duriel didn't go back to Hell when they were killed without soulstones. Perhaps Adria was following us in Diablo 2 marking their souls or keeping them from returning to Hell.

    So when Diablo "resurrected" using Leah as vessel combining the power of all 7 evils (Diablo + 2 prime evils + 4 lesser evils), was he as strong as Tathamet was? If so, does this means that the Nephalem was even stronger than Anu itself since the Nephalem was able to kill this "super-Diablo" and survive?
