Based on how D3 came out, I can't get excited about D4 the game. This series, however, is some of my favourite high fantasy lore, and quarantine is an excellent time to remember it all.

One problem with the story (that is the fault of the Diablo 3 writers) is that the warrior of Diablo 1 was turned into "Prince Aiden" by the Diablo 3 writers. If this is to be canon, you'd think Aiden would have been able to tell that the boy Lazarus abducted was not his brother. Instead Cain had to tell him that wasn't the prince (16:30). By the way, Cain, you've been charging the Prince 100 gold pieces to identify shit. You should be ashamed.
I know this comment is old but maybe Aiden left before his brother was even born, he is a child in Diablo 1 after all. Of course this is a BIG maybe since Diablo 3 retcon so much and introduced so many plot holes is difficult to make sense of the history anymore.

And rip up the nice continuity that the first 2 had but I have found that the 3rd game in a series is always disappointing at best. I cant name a 3 that I liked more than 1 and 2 of a series.

I love how the Angel of Fate moved across the battlefield in the animated short. No wasted effort, if any at all. As if reality itself dictated that his victims were to died. he just appears, his sword draws, the enemy dies, and on to the next. Perfect representation of what the Angel of Fate should be.

Most people can think of a better, more compelling story for Diablo 3, that doesn't mean it's that simple, sadly. Blizzard as it is today is trying to appeal to a broader audience, and thus increase their profits. This goes for their other franchises as well. A broader audience/gamers basically means simpler, more easy to follow plots and less subtlety, it also sadly means more quick and easy rewards and flashy colors to keep the younger gamers hooked. At the end of the day Actiblizzard is a company like any other and the one thing they care the most about, more than anything else by a landslide, is making money. And when it comes to movies and games the real money is in the younger demographic . Sadly.
i am watching this before i start D3, i have watched videos on the D1 and D2. I just want to make sure i haven't missed any of the lore from the first two. So therefore i would be watching any of D3 stuff.

Tal Rasha was the leader of the Horadrim during the hunt for Prime Evils. When Mephisto was caught, the magi chased Baal to the desert near Lut Gholein. Unfortunately, when the Horadrim tried to imprison the Lord Of Destruction, he shattered the Soulstone into pieces. It became clear that the stone could contain his essence forever. Zoltun Kulle suggested that one of them has to imprison Ball within his own body and Tal'Rasha volounteered.
Tons of criticism about Diablo 3 on here. Have you played it lately? They are definitely developing it in the right direction. It has become really fun again. This is just my opinion of course. This new patch 2.2 has some really exciting changes. Anyway, thanks for taking the time to put this together. Great video :)
I have been playing a lot of Diablo 3 lately and it's quite fun still.I am level 27 as a wizard and got 2 legendary weapons.I can't seem to find legendary armor, just weapons.
you're talking gameplay, not lore. I had to stop playing the game for a few years out of sheer disappointment of how terribly they picked up the story. They made it near impossible to make a sequel, and if they do so, they'll have to jump the shark so much more to the point that the franchise runs the risk of being on life support.
It has been always fun since the very reléase, but that's it, it has a nice and fun gameplay, but back in the day Diablo 1 and 2 were awsome due to the gothic and dark theme it had, the lore and story telling was really cruel and vicious, Diablo 3 its a fucking game for kids, all colorful and cheerful, with tons of jokes and humor in it, that's not the sequel we wanted.
I don't think you could argue D3 is any less Gothic. Plenty of regions in D2 like act 2 are no more gothic than say the least gothic in D3, Caldeum. and in terms of architecture, only Act 1 of D2 had truly gothic architecture, which is the same as D3.
Nope. I don't play anymore but my boss does. 1) Not massively multiplayer -> largest instance group is 4 people and you don't ever run into common areas where it's greater. 2) THere is an active player base that enjoys the Grift challenge and over-optimizing builds.
Hear me out. Diablo 3 does not lack depth, It does lack Atmosphere in All the dungeons however. Look at where you travel, where you go in Diablo 2 for example. Compare it to Diablo 3. Diablo 3 has even more wildlife areas, instead of walking underground all the time. (like one of the developers stated: ''color is your friend'' - as in it helps to create contrast) What Diablo need, is like you say, darkness of the cathedral. I personally would love if you could revisit ALL the places from Diablo world, in Diablo 3. Would mean remastering Lut Gholein, Zakarum(?) temple and the Hells of D2-ActIV. Act V's: Arreat crater with ruins of Sescheron is already ingame D3. Then make LIGHT a thing in the dungeons. You are not supposed to see everything, before it jumps out and smack u in the face (like demons could sometimes do in D2) Use a dark ass Fog of War, its not that hard. just make it dark and have sounds that fit. Then with dark and scary dungeons, in addition to the brighter outdoor areas, you get that contrast, and the FEAR of going underground, and RELIEF when surfacing / scrolling back to town. Side Note: Remaking the health potion would help a lot too. Redoit back to Diablo 2 standards, but with D3 style inventory (D3 style = same size, just fits Unrealistic much stuff) I would not mind having to Buy (Actually using gold, makes gold a resource WORTH having) health potions /even other types of potions, doing other things))) Could mean having to farm cash sometimes, just for the sake of potions. The replay value would rise a million times. instead of just pressing "Q" from lvl 1, and never have to think about it again.
Itherael and Auriel appear in Diablo 3 along with Imperius and Tyriel. Malthael left heaven if you followed the story. Tyriel plays a large role in the story and Imperius is in the cutscenes and at the end of the game.
I'd also like to point out Blizzard hasn't had a unique good idea for some time both W.O.W. and D3 chose to make Cartoon heroes in fairy tale rainbow worlds but War Craft 1,2, and 3 and Diablo 1 and 2 had already attracted an entirely different brand of Gamer if that is not a statement saying "we are throwing away our fan base to make room for children that we will throw away later" then what is?
Rathead - it specifically states that Andariel and Duriel are 2 of the 7. Diablo, Baal, and Mephisto are the Prime Evils. Duriel, Andariel, Azmodan, and Belial are the Lesser Evils. Those are the 7 Evils of the Burning Hells.
There is no alternate dimensions of Sanctuary (the world of Diablo). I'd love to hear Blizzard's official statement on how they manipulated the story-line to bring back Mephisto and Diablo into the picture. As well why they didn't finish off the story of Lord of Destruction where the world is "changed" by the destruction of The World Stone. I think they just wanted to make D3 an "epic" story without putting much thought and regard into the already laid out story path before it.
My own personal anti-detection fix. I did a number of things to prevent the movie from getting taken down due to copyright infringements. One of them is a super-high frequency beat, that a normal human should not be able to hear, and normal computer loudspeakers have a hard time playing back frequencies that high. Apparently you defy the norm :-)
What this story lacks is also what Diablo 3 failed to explain... Mephisto's soul stone and Diablo's soul stone were BOTH destroyed at The Hell Forge. Soul stones destroyed at The Hell Forge also destroy the demon within. By that statement, Diablo and Mephisto were both destroyed. The running "theory" is that Adria was nearby and used the Black Soulstone to capture Diablo and Mephisto. However, that is a fallacy because in D3 you retrieve it from Zoltan Kulle's Archives (locked by the Horadrim).

I want another diablo 1. Not just the graphic style and darker mythology but also the game play. Diablo 2 and 3 are still great games I think but they're much more designed to be played cooperatively and repeatedly, with more emphasis on running through levels over and over to make your numbers bigger. Diablo 1 works much better as a single player game as you don't focus on perfecting your character (making the biggest numbers) but getting what you can off the enemies and chests that only empty their goodies once per playthrough, and surviving to the end of the story. It felt like a tiny little sliver of a bigger world that just hinted at its mythology - which I think is the best way to treat that material.The latter games brought all that stuff to the fore and the story/lore really isn't as captivating under the scrutiny of bright lights. As the world was more comprehensively rendered and explored in the game it lost its mystique and began to feel more like any other Tolkien-with-a-twist fantasy worlds we are familiar with. Like I said I still really like D2 and D3 but I wish somebody would make a game more in the tune of Diablo 1 and less focused on being an mmo lite with emphasis on repeating levels and optimizing your character/gear to get bigger numbers than your friends. What do you folks think?
Going back to basics would be fresh. I would keep the run feature from D2 just so it does not take forever to play the game. Just wish Blizzard Noth did not go their separate ways after D2 and butting of heads with parent company.
D2 cinematic, despite its lower quality graphics, leaves a much stronger impression than that of D3. Graphics may have gotten better, but story-telling has gone downhill....

D3 do not lack depth. There are more things to discuss and think than in D2. D2's story is kinda... traditional and typical to me.

Rathead - it specifically states that Andariel and Duriel are 2 of the 7. Diablo, Baal, and Mephisto are the Prime Evils. Duriel, Andariel, Azmodan, and Belial are the Lesser Evils. Those are the 7 Evils of the Burning Hells.

There is no alternate dimensions of Sanctuary (the world of Diablo). I'd love to hear Blizzard's official statement on how they manipulated the story-line to bring back Mephisto and Diablo into the picture. As well why they didn't finish off the story of Lord of Destruction where the world is "changed" by the destruction of The World Stone. I think they just wanted to make D3 an "epic" story without putting much thought and regard into the already laid out story path before it.

My own personal anti-detection fix. I did a number of things to prevent the movie from getting taken down due to copyright infringements. One of them is a super-high frequency beat, that a normal human should not be able to hear, and normal computer loudspeakers have a hard time playing back frequencies that high. Apparently you defy the norm :-)

What this story lacks is also what Diablo 3 failed to explain... Mephisto's soul stone and Diablo's soul stone were BOTH destroyed at The Hell Forge. Soul stones destroyed at The Hell Forge also destroy the demon within. By that statement, Diablo and Mephisto were both destroyed. The running "theory" is that Adria was nearby and used the Black Soulstone to capture Diablo and Mephisto. However, that is a fallacy because in D3 you retrieve it from Zoltan Kulle's Archives (locked by the Horadrim).

I want another diablo 1. Not just the graphic style and darker mythology but also the game play. Diablo 2 and 3 are still great games I think but they're much more designed to be played cooperatively and repeatedly, with more emphasis on running through levels over and over to make your numbers bigger. Diablo 1 works much better as a single player game as you don't focus on perfecting your character (making the biggest numbers) but getting what you can off the enemies and chests that only empty their goodies once per playthrough, and surviving to the end of the story. It felt like a tiny little sliver of a bigger world that just hinted at its mythology - which I think is the best way to treat that material.The latter games brought all that stuff to the fore and the story/lore really isn't as captivating under the scrutiny of bright lights. As the world was more comprehensively rendered and explored in the game it lost its mystique and began to feel more like any other Tolkien-with-a-twist fantasy worlds we are familiar with. Like I said I still really like D2 and D3 but I wish somebody would make a game more in the tune of Diablo 1 and less focused on being an mmo lite with emphasis on repeating levels and optimizing your character/gear to get bigger numbers than your friends. What do you folks think?
Going back to basics would be fresh. I would keep the run feature from D2 just so it does not take forever to play the game. Just wish Blizzard Noth did not go their separate ways after D2 and butting of heads with parent company.
D2 cinematic, despite its lower quality graphics, leaves a much stronger impression than that of D3. Graphics may have gotten better, but story-telling has gone downhill....
