    Natalya was an assassin in Diablo 2, it's true. BUT she went on to form the Demon Hunters. I might not have made that definition clear in the actual video. My bad.
    The reason I don't flat out say who "The Warrior/Wanderer" is in these videos is to not spoil it for people who haven't played the games, until the information becomes relevant (see Diablo 3), because it honestly doesn't really matter until the point where it was retconned into the universe.
    An argument could be made that it gives more stakes to the first game, but I felt that the Diablo 1 video should be apart from as much D3 retcons as possible.
    Thank you for watching :)

      So, the Demon Hunter they (the group of heroes) meet earlier on, had no connection to the Demon Hunter group that our Diablo 3 character comes from because that group hadn't been created yet.

    Marius was supose to rush to the portal passing Diablo, Baal and Mephisto?
    Go all the way to the HellForge in the River of Flame, kill Hephasto to grab the HellForge Hammer and then destroy the SoulStone?
    Tyrael really had high hopes in humanity delivering this quest to Marius.

      Come to think of it, Marius is incredible badass.
      If he arrived in Kurast Docks, that means he passed through "Spider Forest", "Great Marsh", "Flayer Jungle", "Lower Kurast", "Kurast Bazaar", "Upper Kurast", "Travincal" and somehow enter "Durance of Hate".
      He did that without any equipament, weapons and potions. Probably in "hardcore mode" and by being a level 1 character (as far as i know he never killed a monster, so no XP). Not to mention he did this in "Normal", "Nightmare" and "Hell" difficulty.
      I don't know how bad was this place by the time he passed through, but since we are talking about Diablo 2, is hard to belived it was a good place to be.
      Whether he was blessed or cursed, all I can say is that he did some impossible stuff.
      Rest in peace, the most badass Rogue that ever was.

      @@soldieroftruth77 I really don't know if in the end he helped or screwed things up. By hidden the Baal SoulStone he keept Baal off the play, probably making easy (for the heroes) to deal with Mephisto and Diablo. But in the end (...It doesn't even matter... xD), Baal got the SoulStone anyway and corrupt the World Stone.
      I never understood why he was the only one to survive in the tavern.

    According to interviews with Erich Schaefer Blizzard South was responsible for most of the story and cinematics They would work on stuff by themselves and every now and then tell Blizz North what they were up to. There were some clashes over the course the story was taking but I think in the long run they ended up benefiting from the added story.

    As someone who has always looked at diablo and thought about trying it but just never did for whatever reason but I'm also a person who enjoys a game that has a good amount of lore and story to it and now after listening to you actually tell a coherent version of this games story and that was not only informative but entertaining ive decided to give it a shot... thankyou for the obvious effort you put into this video series and making it easy to follow by a noobie like myself that is completely unfamiliar with the story of the game and the lore or honestly the basic story of the game that you would learn from a basic play thru of them .but like I said Ive not played any of them at all and now with 4 looking very interesting to me I was wanting to try to educate myself a bit atleast lol and I honestly probably won't start all the way back with D1 but I was thinking about trying to start with D3 and playing thru it before picking up D4 but if you happen to see this comment (I'm very much doubtful of that lol) but if so what do you think about starting with D3? I'm just being honest and I know that I'm a graphics snob and I wouldn't be able to make myself play thru that old of a game as D1 or D2 lol input?

    • @itsChrane
      @itsChrane  Рік тому

      Thank you for the very nice comment! I made these videos years ago with the exact purpose of making it easier for people to jump in exactly where they wanted to, and choose how far they wanted to catch up, so this is a really cool comment to receive.
      If you've never played any of them, I would recommend starting with Diablo 2 Resurrected, and then going into Diablo 3. Mainly because of how much 2 defines the entire genre and with the Ressurected version being a graphical remake it's not nearly as painful for new eyes. It has a bit of older design philosophies (like a stamina bar that doesn't matter after level 10, just use your stats points on Vitality early) but the atmosphere, item design, classes and bosses make it all worth it.
      That's just my bias speaking though, you'd be completely fine starting with D3 and it's all just a matter of opinion.
      Thanks again for the nice comment, take care!

    Great stuff, great stuff. I know the whole story given that I was as passionate about diablo's lore as you are, but still watched the whole thing.
    The only thing that you didn't mention is the fact that the warrior from d1 is Aidan, Leoric's son. It was a retcon afaik, but still worth mentioning and it does shed some light on his story.

    • @itsChrane
      @itsChrane  8 років тому +1

      +CioloXXL Yeah, Aidan's identity was a retcon, and I will talk about it when I get to the "twist" at the end of Act 3 in Diablo 3. Since that's where it feels the most relevant, and if I used his name throughout these videos, that twist would fall kinda flat

    Just to add some things. According to blizzard the Barbarian was the hero that slew diablo and it is canon that he survived the fight (eventually returning to arreat and his own people), it may be possible that he was known as Kanai but the connection there is uncertain, we do know that the barbarian present in diablo 3 is NOT the same one that slew diablo (as blizzard would have to justify the loss of said barbarians gear). Barbarian was by far the most popular class in diablo 2 (with something like 70% of all characters EVER made being barbarians) and it was because of that fact the barbarian recieved a statue of him standing triumphant atop diablo's corpse. Originally the male barbarian of d3 was intended to be the same character as the barbarian of d2 and that was initially confirmed by at least two devs, but that decision was seemingly reversed.
    We also know for a fact that the Necromancer survived the battle with diablo (and potentially even the battle with baal) as it is his apprentice we encounter in A2 of d3. I'm not 100% but I believe it is mentioned that the necromancer dies of old age.
    We also know for a fact that the Sorceress lives through the battle with diablo and (potentially with baal) as the wizard of d3 is trained by her... Before the Viz'jaq'taar assassin Natalya is sent after her. This is confirmed in short stories on the d3 website and by the conversation in a5 of d3 between wizard and sorceress at the pandemonium fortress.
    The fates of the Paladin, Druid, Amazon and Assassin are uncertain... however it is speculated that the player character assassin in d2 was actually natalya because even though she was present in a3 the Assassin and Druid don't canonically join the group until a5 of d2.

    • @GrzesiuG44
      @GrzesiuG44 8 років тому

      +Syfa Because barbarian was planed as D3 character it should be safe to assume that he survived and still lives or that his fate is still undecided. I think that it would be nice if they actualy decide that in terms of canon it is same barbarian despite the ingame interactions.

    Thank you so much for making these videos. I just got back from Blizzcon and wanted to give Diablo a try, but felt intimidated going straight into the third game. This recap is exactly what I wanted it to be and I’m so grateful to you for all the hard work you put into it to make it easy for beginners to follow along and understand. And stories like this are always best-told by people like you who harbor a deep love for the franchise. Thanks!!

    I'll agree that the barbarians are different from Diablo 2 to Diablo 3. However at the start of production, they were going to use the same character but then switched it for the reasons you said. There is still a few lines of dialogue in the game(as of reaper of souls) that makes it seem like they are the same character. Just leftover dialogue that wasn't thoroughly checked and left in by accident.

    The dark wanderer was Aidan, the warrior from the first game that defeated Diablo.

    Very well done. Was a pleasure listening to it. But the similarities between the story of D3, D1 and D2 are unmistakeable. Horizon=Zoltun kulle. Reaper of souls=Lord of destruction. Skeleton King = skeleton King.

      +Michael Kozikowski After D3 I will cover specific characters and events in the Diablo Universe, but Warcraft is not an impossibility. However, Nobbel's got Warcraft down and has pretty much covered everything there is to talk about in that Universe haha

    i remember i saw a diablo 2 trailer, the wanderer was the one narrating. he was in a caravan, and while he was talking, there was a closeup on his face with the soulstone still in his forehead. then the camera shifted to the road with the soulstone, implying that it fell. been trying to look for that trailer ever since.😕😕

    I figured I'd ask this before going to the next part, but I have noticed (I guess I should have asked this in the last video instead), but any information about the Hellfire expansion for Diablo 1 and the other 3 characters (If I recall, one or two you get for beating Diablo, and the other one or two you get from getting Hellfire). If I recall, it was a Bard (Same picture if I recall as the Rogue), a Barbarian, and a Monk. I figured I'd ask, as it wasn't mentioned so far in this one or the last.

    • @itsChrane
      @itsChrane  4 роки тому +1

      Diablo Hellfire wasn't developed by Blizzard and is not considered canon, so that's why there's no mention of it :)

    And now with Diablo Immortal out we kno it takes place between the events of D2 and D3 where they retcon it so the shards of the worldstone did actually rain down on Sanctuary and spread corruption everywhere and that’s where we begin the Diablo Immortal story in the timeline

    I always get sad that Moreina was corrupted by Andariel and turned into Blood Raven, and that we had to kill her. She was my favourite in Diablo I, the character I played (and still play) the most. Diablo I in my opinion was the best of the three.

    • @dingodyno9016
      @dingodyno9016 8 років тому +3

      yeah, all the characters that first fought Diablo in D1 met a gruesome end, just goes to show you that the power of a Prime Evil and the burning Hells is not joke, even the strongest of warriors can be corrupted and driven mad by what they see, D1 will always be best, wish they would make a remastered edition of it using the D3 engine like they did for SC1

    • @eddzetarabbit
