The reason I don't flat out say who "The Warrior/Wanderer" is in these videos is to not spoil it for people who haven't played the games, until the information becomes relevant (see Diablo 3), because it honestly doesn't really matter until the point where it was retconned into the universe.
An argument could be made that it gives more stakes to the first game, but I felt that the Diablo 1 video should be apart from as much D3 retcons as possible.
Thank you for watching :)
Thanks for that.
Thanks for that!
Thank you for this. With the recent Diablo 4 annoucement I want to play Diablo 2 and Diablo 3 but wanted to know the story of Diablo 1 with minimal spoilers. So it was very considerated of you to not spoil the story (even if it is something not major).
who is the wanderer :D
Excellently done and we’ll said. These videos should be required reading for anyone playing the games.
If I recall correctly, the 'canon' hero from Diablo 1 was the Warrior, who was Prince Aidan, Leoric's eldest son, who later became the Dark Wanderer
Indeed you are correct.
Yeah he was away as a young adult and found out about his little brother and father when he returned as a veteran warrior.
And the rogue became Blood Raven in Diablo 2, the Wizard went to Lut Gholein to find the sanctuary - which he succeeded at. Only to become crazy.
@@Skyfox94 The Sanctuary?
Yep your correct.
I was about 8 years old when I got my hands on Diablo. Man, I was scared and could never really finish the game, but when I did at like 10 years old I was more intruged than anything else! Than I got my hands on Diablo II when I was about 12 and it was the most fun I have had growing up and I still play it till this day. I love the lore of Diablo it's one of my favourite storys of video games.
There was something so eerie about ‘95 FMV quality. I don’t think we can recreate that horror with realism.
I started playing Diablo as a 6 year old back when it first came out (my Dad would visit my uncle a lot, and he didn't have tv for a while, so I used to play on his computer while he and my dad spent time chatting about stuff, and one of the only games my uncle had was Diablo). The Butcher gave me a few nightmares, and I used to freeze when I heard the "Ahh, fresh meat!" (which was bad cause I always played Rogue). Even replaying Diablo as a 26 year old (who loves the paranormal and laughs through nearly all horror movies), I nearly freeze everytime I hear that line. I will still never forget the time I accidentally locked my screen in first person view when I was about 8, and replaying Diablo again, on level 2. I had a panic attack. Looking back on it is funny now, but 8 year old me and the good graphics for the time had me terrified.
Ah, memories...
there was first person view in diablo1? i didn't know that.
]
"Decard Bane!"
Lmao xD
I lost my shit when he said that!
deckard chrane
I didnt see that kind of humor comeing, that was pretty funny.
Never did get to play Diablo 1. Glad to see a shorthand version of the story.
You forgot the fact that in one early trailer for Diablo 2 the wanderer went in a stage coach and held the soulstone, talked some nonsense about going to the east and in the end dropped that stone on the road, or threw it away if you like, claiming it was his last piece of humanity or something like that
Cool vid. It's been so long since I played Diablo 1 that i've forgotten all of the lore. look forward to the next parts in this series.
The warrior was Leoric's son who returned from a war. Probaly the war with Westmarch
The Warrior from Diablo 1 is a knight of King Leoric, returning from the war against Westmarch. And he hit himself with the old Devil's gem, because he knew that Diablo's spirit would just try to posses someone else otherwise. He thought himself strong enough to withstand the demon.
That Butcher bit was so very true! I remember opening the door to his room and running away, shooting in his direction from outside the screen. That place was very scary indeed : D
thanks man. i can relate, this game made me the gamer i am today i think i was like 9 or 10 when this came out. love the Diablo series
when you played the butcher's "fresh meat" line I seriously jumped and had a chill down my spine. Hearing that still makes my skill crawl.
I remember this. The cutscenes were scary as a kid.
Im confused on one part. Lazurus shoved the stone into the head of Leorics son. What do you mean he smashed it earlier? I would think the stone is buried, Diablo took over his thoughts, he took the stone and stole the kid, put the stone in his head allowing Diablo to fill his body and then the Hero kills Albretch and is corupted and shoves the stone in his head.
I'm still playing the first Diablo, 22 years later. Only now am I beginning to appreciate the lore, I used to not care about it as a child.
Forgot to say...keep up the good work because although this game was released ages ago, there are many like me who come across this story every day!
Dude, diablo 1 is rated pegi 18. You played it at 6 years old. I played diablo 2 when I was 6.
Just going to show you the rateing system dosent work that well. I mean I played my first gta at like 9 or 10 ish.
Me too
I played diablo3 when i was around 7 or 8
100%
“They work for the bearded mercenary”
“CAIN?”
Loved the mood in Diablo, thanks for this lore series!
I wish I played Diablo 1 when I grew up, such a nice game. I played it a few months ago and really enjoyed it.
I started playing when I was 7! It was my dad's favorite, that and the original warcraft (not WOW). I even used to dress up and pretend I was the rogue running around shooting my plastic bow blasting imaginary demons into oblivion..ahhh the good old days (,:
Amazing series of videos my man :) I wanted to say thank you for doing all this!! I'm new to Diablo and just bought it on XBO because it was on sale for $30 and until this, I simply could t afford the games. The story of Diablo absolutely fascinates me!!
I tried playing Diablo several times since like age 7 because I saw my mom and my step-grandpa play it back in the day. I could never get past the damn Butcher though.... He was hard :(
Its crazy how many of us as kids got Diablo as one of our first games. It wasnt my first per say, but it was my first PC game and got me into PC gaming at a young age.
Deckard BAIN was the moment here :D
The warrior is said to be the King's son who was away to war. It's in his biography, on Diablo wiki.
3:25 im pretty sure lachdanan was captain of the king's knights
This videos are amazing! I love these, it takes me straight to playing Diablo 3 which was my goal. Thank you!
Best of the three in my opinion. I love this game and play it to this day. :D
+Hecci666 try the HD mod, pretty much makes it like diablo 2 w/ sets and crafting, and a ton of xtra content
@SofaKingLeet
exactly, it makes it into diablo 2... with elements of D3... still a good mod
@Hecci666
if u want a great and DIFFICULT mod, try "The Hell"
This entire story is so heartbreaking. What's worse is that once you kill any of the evils, they never truly stay dead.
Great video, I loved to hear more about the actual story line since the lack of story line in the diablo series. Cinematic are great, however it lack details. Thanks for making this video. I played diablo 1 17 years ago and still love the story and game.
The details are sprinkled throughout the dialogue throughout the game
This is awesome, great summary!
It's theorized that the rogue became the bloodraven we see in D2 and the sorcerer became the summoner we see in Arcane Sanctuary in D2. All speculation, but, it seems to make sense given that we assume since the warrior fell to madness and became the dark wanderer (Diablo) that likely the other two would fall as well.
+mortisthenecro shhhhh, I'm getting there ;)
+Chrane :D
+mortisthenecro Yes, Moreina was Blood Raven. Jazreth was the Summoner.
I always thought it was funny they called it a Cathedral when clearly it would be more of an Abbey or Church
Great video, but you got a like regardless because of the Bane joke.
Because of Diablo: no other game has compared. I'm always seeking for that game as good as Diablo, I haven't found it yet.
I wonder if this is the same skeleton king Leoric as the one in Warcraft/ Dota.
This video is very good, I'd love to see more, I watched Forces lore videos but they never summed up Diablo 3, also are you planning on doing character analysis videos - I'd love to see those.
+Aizen Sōsuke When I've covered all the games, I will probably get into character videos and specific events that took place before the games, since I just touched on them quickly in the first video :)
5:20 The diablo 1 warrior is Prince aiden the Oldest son of lord leoric
I played Diablo 1 as the warrior and when I opened the door to the butcher's chamber and heard his voice I fucking shit myself, but instantly realized that I could door trap him and take him head on. Afterwards, I had to go take a dump because I was still terrified. After that the game didn't seem so frightening.
I always thought Diablo was the first to corrupt the Archbishop, and Leoric could not be corrupted completely as he was loyal to Heaven, so no matter who, he would never be fully corrupted.
8:56 same voice from the game sacrifice
I was 8 when I first played so I know all about being scared shitless by the butcher, the atmosphere of this game was just beautifully executed
Why did the warrior put the soul stone in his own head?
Answer: Plot convenience.
+BadArtist Correct. But it did set up a fantastic follow-up!
He was deceived, his reasoning and his soul was already twisted.
Also, he had not seen any horror movies. Ever. Somehow.
Earlier on you could find a journal stating that the weak of heart were targets for demonic possession, and, Aidan, being the kingly son he was believed himself too powerful to succumb to Diablos power.
It probably seemed like a good idea at the time 😅
The Butcher gave me nightmares tooooo!!
i remember having to sign into my moms AOL account (dial-up) head to battlenet leave the page open, start-up diablo and play with people who sometimes robbed me during trades lol good times.
AlwaysN2Something Relatable. The good old days!
Surprised this didn’t mention Horazon and his sanctuary... it would’ve been nice for you to present all tile sets and bosses seen in Diablo 1 for those who do not play it.
This is why we have the staff spire of lazarus in d2. Didnt understand why lazarus back in the days
lol the guys voice at the end was the voice actor of roy campell in metal gear solid :-P
I loved Diablo but yeah, I remember being super confused by the ending too. Who the hell plunges a haunted gem into their forehead? Pretty badass, though.
one question, mephisto and diablo had some type of conetion, i mean, they could talk to each other in that time or was coincidence mephisto make lazarus convince leoric to go to tristram and found diablo ?
i have many question about Na'krull and the alien lurkers on diablo hellfire, why did they never mentioned again on the diablo sequels. Was expecting blizzard will tell more about them
Hellfire isn't canon and it wasn't made by Blizzard. That's why :)
+Chrane not made by blizzard? i see now
The soulstone could not be easily destroyed like such, but it could be damaged.
That was all he did was damage the soulstone to allow for Diablo's essence seep out and locate a host to possess.
Awesome Chrane, sadly i have never played Diablo 1 nor hellfire, it is awesome to know the full history, now i want to play diablo 1 so bad, keep it up with the videos they are awesome, i like your voice for these type of videos sad and cold. :P
+j0s3ab131 IIRC Hellfire is considered non-canon
I can email you the game with the belzebub mod it makes it run in hd res to 640x800. And releases all of the quests in the files that weren't meant to be played, like the arcane sanctuary is in the game
+Maddog2020 Could you email me that by chance? Been wanting to play Diablo 1 again. The HD mod sounds amazing.
@Maddog2020 I'd take you up on that email friend.
fantastic video
Thanks for this man!
Love the intros. "Hi I'm crane"
Swear the narrator for Diablo 1 is Colonel. Roy Campbell from the Metal Gear Franchise...
I LOVE this franchise
I believe that this series could be as big as LOR if done right.
Big as movie franchise
Diablo was my first real videogame too, my (older) guy friend brought me to a pawn shop at around 10 and i bougt a copy (totaly not legal lol) but i loved it and my parents were ok with it lol, a year or two later i got addicted to diablo 2 (ill point our i got the games a few years after release hehe, d2 was about 2002)
Rewatching to prepare for diablo 2 resurrected!
Thancks
Oh god, when I got to the bane joke, i saw a brilliant future. I saw you you providing video game histories in the style of History of Japan but SO MUCH MORE INFORMATIVE. The choice is yours. But seriously, good work.
The adventurer is king Leorics son
The warrior is the oldest prince.
I was five when I played d2 for the first time @2
Yrsa Lenander i was 50 now im owning 12year olds in diablo3 in my 70s
4:42 hahahaha im dying xD!!!
Ready to have your mind blown? The Rogue from D1 became Blood Raven from D2 act 1 and the mage became the summoner from the Arcane Sanctuary in Act 2 *BOOOM* ya'll just got lit up
It's just a theory tho, nothing's been confirmed
Electrickoolaid A He actually points that out in his next video covering the story of Diablo 2
need a remaster of d1. and a 666 levels dungeon
I was 11 but also my first real computer game. No nightmares. 😋
New sub, your videos are dope man! XD
Diablo 2 was the first video game I've ever played.
you're young
You and I seem to be a lot a like. The Butcher gave me nightmares too. I was of the same age too 😂😂😂
Lazarus' Cutscene was the Creepiest
theres still a stone because thats just the largest shard not the whole stone
I like you. I think you deserve more subs.
Miss a opportunity to say "stay awhile and listen" before each video
Maybe he was possessed when he smashed the crystal into his skull?? Not really sure though...
I always wonder why lazuras never offered himself for diablo for him to possess
Likely, Lazarus was too weak in Diablo's eyes.
Diablo 1 Probably was make only for this title. And This story is a ongoing suffering, every warrior who win, lose.
i would be no where near Diablo if I was 6 years old haha
hello. Love your videos. my question is : what is the porpouse of the organs ? im playing a MOD for Diablo 2 (eastern sun mod) is there a recipes for them? what to do with a combination of them?
I tell this story to my children so they behave. I'd tell them that a demon would sneak into their rooms at night to plunge a soulstone into their head for the prime evils seek new living hosts.
I'm not religious by any means. My wife and her family are very Catholic, gotta fit in somehow.
edit: I'm divorced and lost custody of my children and now a fulltime Paladin...
how do you pronounce the names of the rogue and sorcerer 10:26. where are their names mentioned again?
Diablo - lets make it up as we go!😑
Parents really just didn't give a fuck in 90's. Both my parents are loving and caring, my siblings and I were never neglected................ I was still allowed to play Resident Evil at 8 years old though
how did you make these scenes of the diablo1 introduction events in World of Warcraft graphics? is there some video editing tool in WOW?
You're an old guy.
-For you~
I think he should have sealed the way diablo soul stone instead putting it in his own head.
9:00 Snaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaake !!
isnt the warrior prince Aidan tho?
That was probably a retcon introduced later in the franchise.
2 15 second ads on a 11 minute video. are you fucking serious youtube
Colonel?!?!?!
What about the damn cows!
*Moreina, not Morena.
Great vi anyway!
what game is that? diablo 3 mod for diablo 1?
