Have replaced other gas struts before but could not see why it would not just pop off. The words "Pries of the clip" in the video was all I needed to hear and the job was done. Thanks
True, but it takes quite a bit of force to do without first prying off the clip. The other point was to protect the surrounding areas to ensure when the strut pops off one doesn't scratch the paint. It's an easy job, but you can damage the paint just as easy.
Just replaced mine on my 986 Boxster S and watched this video beforehand - super easy, thank you.
Glad we were able to help. Cheers.
Awesome. Used the tape....and my screwdriver slipped a little and did not scratch the paint!!! Great idea. I have a 2017 991.2. Wife held the lid and that helped. Thanks.
Glad it helped!
Whole garage full of awesome tools.
Doesn't have a hold open stick....
I have several p's in my driveway and I love your videos! Recently my daughter got a 986, so you've been helpful to say the least.
Would love a video addressing the blend door foam issue and a fix. I think I've figured a better way than cutting stuff behind the dash but I'd like to see more information about the A/C unit in the 986 of approximately 2000. Thanks 😊
Actually, we don't normally work on cars in PCA's garage so tools are quite limited. Glad we've been helpful. Yes, that foam blowing out the vents is a pain. Will try to find the answer.
Thx dude - good video - simple job - but good to watch b4 I went out and did it myself - much appreciated
Glad it helped
Thanks for telling people to protect the hood and fender paint with tape and soft towel/cloth. One slip of the tool could result in a minor or major scratch in the paint.
Great timing. LOL. Not that I needed a tut on this easy job but I am literally doing these this morning and the parts came in yesterday when you posted this.
Watched the video and it onlyl took minutes. THANKS
Glad it was helpful!
I’m a mega noob when it comes to car stuff, just got my first car/996 at 30yo. I’m trying to learn, do as much research as I can, this seems to be easy enough haha.
thanks man, super helpful.
Glad to hear it!
Thanks Vu awesome ! I am ordering replacements now Best ! Russ
Super handy dandy information! THANKS! ❤️
You bet!
Vu, per the Porsche Boxster 986 PET, the front lid struts are installed with the thin piston in the up position, not as shown in the video. You can see this on page 220 of the 986 PET. Thanx for the great video though.
Thanks for the info, we really appreciate the feedback! Glad you enjoyed the video.
Very helpful thank you!
You're welcome!
Thank you!!
You're welcome!
i actually need to do this haha
Can you please provide part number of weight/strength/size spec of struts, awesome, thanks
part # 996-511-551-01-OEM weighs 9.6oz size 12x4x1"
Can you check the size again please, I have 225mm extended, 160mm compressed with a stroke of 65mm, thanks and apols for being a PITA, anyhow I have ordered the stabilus oem parts.
Does this change significantly for the 987 Boxster S?
Should be same.
This was a terrible video. Poorly positioned camera angle couldn't see any details. you might as well have just phoned it in.
Thanks so much!
