Nice video. I've made some similar mods to my Polo that you might find useful too: Reduce weight by removing spare change, unused cds and half finished drinks containers. Tuck in wing mirrors to reduce drag. I have also snipped off the aerial. Concentrate on performance when driving downhill. Skip lunch, and make sure all waters, and especially, solids have been passed before driving. Hold your breath when accelerating. Hope some of these work for you and your subscribers.
I have a 99 boxster with a manual transmission. Owned it for about 4 years. Some of the original parts that needed replacement were alternator, AOS, coolant tank, worn out shocks, rotors and brake pads, and small electrical repairs over the last 3 years since I have owned it. Probably spent about $5k over the 3 years but the car is one of the best cars I have owned. It also has a hard top so I use it come the rainy season in South Florida.
i own a 1998 boxster since new. has 22k miles on it. bought a pretty basic car knowing i was going to keep it a long time and didn't want too many extras to go wrong. great car. everything i can expect from a porsche. fast, smooth, comfortable. had to invest bout 1500$ over the years for unexpected repairs - electrical problem was the biggest (windows would not go up; a relay in the seat belt caused a trouble light - and had to buy parts from dealer. i use a battery trickle charger so i am on the third battery - original plus 2. amazingly, second set of tires. first lasted 6,000 then put the finest michelins on and good to go. just love the car. obviously driven only in nice weather. have haggerty insurance which is about 75% less than regular and full coverage.
I’ll start again, I just poked 2. 1/2 in. Holes on the exhaust with a sharpened 1 foot long rebar, it took 15 minutes & sound better, thinking of enlarge to 5/8
You missed one...repaint your calipers. The base calipers get faded and old looking after a few years. Some high gloss heat resistant paint and some heat resistant Porsche lettering once dry makes the wheels come back to life beautifully. Also...spacers front and rear but half the size on front.
The "snorkel" was placed by Porsche to protect the admission of the fire. The "snorkel" prevents cigarette butts from reaching the air filter and igniting your car.
I De-Snorkeled my car a couple days ago. It sounds so good with the top down. Very GT3 like. You're video just doesn't do it justice lol. Might try that crios mod next 🤘🏽⚡️. Good video man.

Hi, I recently bought my first car and it is a Porsche Boxter 986 (2002). I did a huge amount of work with my own hands, restored all the plastic in the interior, cleaned the radiators, repaired the cooling system and much more... but unfortunately, after replacing the battery in the car and after replacing the battery in the electronic key, the car stopped responding to the electronic key.( (the light comes on when pressed and the battery has already been replaced twice, perhaps you know how to make the car see the electronic key again?
Are you on a 2004 Boxster S. The buttons for the radio the heater air conditioner etc. all are hard to push in until you push them a couple of times. Do you have a solution on how to get those from being so hard to push in and out call. OK
I have desnorkeled Done the chrios mod and a free flow air filter. I drove another 986 S without these mods and I can tell you that my car feels way more livelier and hits a lot harder at 4000 RPMs... seems to pull much harder at 3K RPMs also I just have to watch out for lit cigarette butts in the road😊
Spacers put extra load on wheel bearings and give a wider track than the front, this affects the handling and not in a good way.I desnorkeled and fitted a KN to the wifes S and it did make a difference in sound.New plugs and coils good idea on a car over 5yrs old, many change plugs but not coils.Redex cleans the carbs well and ok on a 80kml car but on a high miler can do more harm than good.Short shift worth triple what they cost.
You can get a Circuit Werks catback exhaust system for $230 here in America. I've seen some reviews and all it has is droning issues and you have to move the power line away from the exhaust or it's screwed, but that's all problems it really has.
@@MarkHamilton70 the reason I say that is my Boxster came with an after market stainless muffler that at 60 miles an hour the drone was deafening. I under stand that some people will like to get a better exhaust note but I had to replace the offending droning muffler. Fortunately i was able to buy a used OEM muffler that some one had removed and replaced with an after market muffler. Who knows it might have been the original one from my car. Anyways if you need to replace a muffler yourself I recommend that you pull the rear plastic bumper off to access the muffler, you can do it without removing the bumper but it is a whole lot harder. I believe that is just a few clips that hold it on, I am about to find out as I need to pull the front bumper to clean the leaves out of the radiators.
Redex is same thing as transmission fluid. It cleans and lubricates the seals, springs in the injectors. I would put 1/4 of a quart into a tank full of gas. Once a year is good.
After watching the dismantling (removal of inlet duct) of the most acclaimed inlet system made I just had to switch off. Seriously, people think they know more than Porsche engineers with decades of combined experience?
David Moore yeah like the time Porsche restricted the cayman engine and intake system so as to not be more powerful than the 911. Porsche do things for a reason, and it’s not always to get the best out of an engine, often it’s a way of restricting performance. All manufacturers do it.
@@alsatch_ Seriously? Ever heard of ECU mapping? Cold air induction? Venturi effect? Would you pay more for a "compromised" ear engine design unless it was mapped to be more powerful? Carreras are unique hence their attraction.
@@alsatch_ De-snorkeling has to reduce the Venturi effect and negate the cold air intake. Hot air from the engine/ wheel well area will be less dense than from the carefully designed side vent.
Porsche also made the M96 engine that experienced IMS bearing failure and subsequent destruction of the engines that costs somewhere around $20,000 to replace. They made lifter oil ports that were too small and are prone to clogging? How about all alluminium cylinder blocks on the M97 engines that could not take the wear of the piston regardless of driving style, oil condition, etc and that costs around $25,000 to replace the engine? You don't have to be a brown-noser for an auto manufacturing company.

Interesting mods! After tracking and modifying two 986s, I'm on the lookout for a 987S! Many 986 mods are featured on my channel.

Just so you know, Boxster owers in many other parts of the world will be locking their roof on for winter in April.
I will vouch for the plugs and coil packs. Had mine done on recent service and it transformed the throttle response. 😎

Thanks I learned a lot about the Boxter from your video. I just bought one yesterday and it came without a manual.
2:30 as for the air intake, doesn't this allow for leaves to come in ?

@samin90 @tmansnaps how much are you paying for fuel in a week ? And how often are you repairing parts ?
The drawback of the K&N Filter it can cause oil drawing from up top , by the filter
If you have oiled the K & N filter too much, this extra oil will go on the MAF and accelerate its aging or destroy it.
