      I have to ask; are you a mechanical engineer or master technician? Your well of knowledge is so deeply extensive and thorough. I've never even spoken to a mechanic / automotive technician who seems to know their craft/hobby as well as you. Thanks for the informative videos.

    Thanks so much for your explanation. I need to replace the hood struts on my '90 964 and thought it better to see what it entails before actually ordering the struts....Peace,

    Thank you so much for doing this video!! The original owner from whom I bought my 993, used a stick as a full-time hood prop!

    Car repair in a white blouse. This may be the classiest repair channel on UA-cam! Thanks for the great footage and instruction. I was trying this myself and couldn’t figure out how to do it.

    Why is it so funny when the hood falls on someone while they work. I can't help but laugh but feel horrible for laughing at the same time. Hell I even laugh when I do it to myself. Very nice video thanks for putting it together.

    What I love about these videos is that ALL the steps are clearly shown with good camera angles and instructions. So many DIY video channels skip shots and don't explain each step which can be very frustrating. If I'm to learn how to do something, I need to learn by seeing each level of the repair. Keep up the great work.

    Thank you for this video. Just replaced them on my 993 turbo. I had very little room to work with. A wireless endoscope camera made all the difference. BTW I tied the hood to the ceiling with a bungee cord and didn't have to worry about it falling on my head.

    Nice job Franny! I'd never replaced a strut with the ball joint and "built-in" pin. But, now I have to give it a go.....

  • @freerkderuiter8822

    First the 996 tried to eat you and now the 993. Never knew Porsches were so aggressive. Great video as always. Even though this is an easy job it's still easy to mess it up a bit by starting with the ball joint or have the strut turned 180 degrees. Thank you for sharing.

      Finally got to this service item on my car. Thanks you for your video and posting the part numbers - made the job easy for me to finally knock out. (FYI: The slotted screw driver I used was a 3/16 x 10" ) Can I make a video request? Could you show the best practice for replacing the 993 cooling fan/alternator drive belt and the AC belt? Thanks!

      Yeah, I knew better than to use that crappy mono-pod. It has a nice rubber tip so I was thinking it would be great and not mar the top. It just wasn't up to the challenge... It was all "I got it, I got it! ...I don't got it..."

    Thank god you're ok. I almost thought we just witnessed a decapitation... If you could barley reach your hand on one side then then the rest of us with meatier hands are doomed. Great video, thanks as always. Question, will you be doing any brake related videos anytime? Also, I thought I was the only one that still uses "conk" and "schmutz", that's great!

  • @gregstillman5197
    @gregstillman5197 6 років тому +2

    As I recall, my '76 911S had a longer hood strut, which meant it was way farther down for the "ball" connection; quite difficult to replace. When I did my '91 Carrera 2, it was much "easier" as it wasn't so far down to release the ball clip. Question; where'd you get your camera suction cup mount? I got a GoPro for my birthday and am looking for a nice one like yours. thanks....

    • @HeidiandFranny
      @HeidiandFranny  6 років тому +1

      Hi Greg, I hear the GoPro mounts have a nasty tendency to come loose, but I've never used them. The one in the video is a "RAM". not bad, but can shake on bumpy roads. Great for these static shots though. We use the dual suction cup Gecko mounts and they are pretty solid with the action cams. They do bounce a little with a DSLR. Nick Murry uses some super fancy mounts for his DSLRs because those cameras can get quite heavy, but for the GoPro/Sony the Geko work well for us. They also have a three cup version I want to try out.

    • @gregstillman5197
      @gregstillman5197 6 років тому

      thanks. I'll search for the Gecko mounts.

    • @HeidiandFranny
      @HeidiandFranny  6 років тому

      Greg, we should have all our mounts listed in the descriptions of our videos. We get asked about our equipment a lot. The links provided will redirect you to Amazon. The price is the same, but we get a small referral fee from Amazon if you do order there. thanks. Heidi.

    What about the clips? Did you have to spring them back on again?

    • @HeidiandFranny
      @HeidiandFranny  6 років тому

      Sorry about that... I should have showed that. The new strut socket already have the clips installed so, when you pop them into place, they flex/spread as needed to get over the ball and then cinch right down. In other words, you don't need to fuss with them at all :)
