For cost reference: I calculated that 3-1/2" R-13 batt insulation would run about 61¢ per ft². For this spray to reach R-13 value it would require 2.3 inches in depth. That would cost $1.92 per ft². So for walls that are 8 feet tall, the cost for batt insulation = $4.89 a linear foot. The cost for this spray foam = $15.38 per linear foot. (Actual cost depends on package purchased) Your mileage may vary. Thanks for the video.
BUT fiberglass batt is not a good idea for a metal shed due to condensation causing a mold problem. You also have to have studs to attach the batts to. I would recommend rigid foam sheets and glue them in place with this spray foam leaving a good space between sheets say 1 1/2 inches at least. It would leave you with a much cleaner looking job as well and WAY faster too. In answer to this video's question "doesn't that look great?" Not really.
For cost comparison, I'm getting my 16x32 shed done professionally for $1900. Spray roof deck with 5.5" of open cell Spray walls and gables with 3.5" open cell Granted, you need the pricier closed cell on a metal shed.
I'm an ironworker, and we use these guns all the time and I'm gonna give you tip after you clean the gun initially leave the can attached to the gun let the acetone work on the remaining foam clinging to the inside the workings trust me it may appear its all out but it isn't let cleaner can on for at least 5 minutes and respray then when you take can off don't pull trigger to release pressure let that cleanerase in the gun another 5 minute then release these guns gradually clog up and will need to be broken down to clean properly but this will help prolong that
@@jasong8377 I agree i am a union iron worker and use these bad bois all the time. Don't take the can off if there is product left in the can also. Just close the regulator.
Do not have moisture on your substrate, also wear the proper PPE, any moisture above 14% will more than likely lead to delamination issues, manufacturer will tell you 18 is the highest, a professional will tell you 14, high pressure or low pressure, you want your surface as dry as possible
FYI guys once you have the gun and tip you can actually use the regular Foam bottles they sell at walmart the big gap and crack for $3 each it works the same.
Hi there Tad from NZ. Thanks for uploading a video with your own real experience on using a spray foam kit with cans. I have been looking to do the same kind of job and was wondering if the can approach was worth it. Great Video!
Just curious, did you use clothes sell insulation or open cell installation because if you’re doing your metal roof, you should think about the metal roof sweating and siding so you should probably use close sell insulation otherwise you’re just soaking up all that moisture and getting mold
Thank you! Good DIY video. I'm trying to figure out if I want to do a scratch coat on my cabin under the R-19 fiberglass insulation. Any thoughts Taddy?
thanks @asudavew for the math, LOL. I would factor in the ease of application, especially on the roof. Tad, have you tried using the Great stuff Professional ? I wonder if the tips would attach to that gun.
What are you insulating, meaning what will be inside the shed? Will it have a heat source inside? If not, the air inside will rise or fall to the outside temperature. You might slow down the rise in temperature inside on a sunny summer day, but it will eventually be the same. And even if you have a heat source inside, the wooden supports will transfer the heat in or out, bypassing the foam insulation. Appreciate the time and effort to make the video and share your experience..
Can this spray foam be used on car's noise cancelation? How's the sound proofing ability 😮😊 just curious about the possibility as it looks pretty light.
So i was using this for floor underneath my home, i used the B tip. But its like when i started going right side up just for a second, it would kinda stop spraying properly. Wonder if its possible, even with the tip screwed all the way on, i may have had the tip of it where it was spraying down. Instead of in an upward angle like in your video. I didnt notice but I'll have to try again and be sure
do you need a special gun to make it fan out? mine seems to just make a bead. I can adjust the size of the beam, but cannot make a spray pattern. any help would be appreciated.
Okay I found the red nozzles on amazon, question. can I use spray foam that is for gap filling to spray vertically.. like you did. or does it have to be a special foam. these foams by the 12 pack, prices vary. stanely has it on bonus with 25% discount for $77 buck.. it is for gap filling, so with the vertical red tip will it spray out in a pattern?
I did. But had professional apply it for those areas. If you need electrical service local codes may call for specific details. Also whatever you plan to cool with should be installed first as the foam will form a seal. Don't forget to cover up anything you don't want the foam inside of. It's about like using a power paint sprayer makes fine drops.
U just sprayed the cleaner at the door you just insulated ..also the amount you applied is useless as sprayed ..true 2lb foam.is about 6.5 to 7 r value per inch ..this is showing a way to others to waste money..have the pros do it..even a froth pack is better then this ..u m8ght aswell of grabbed cans of great stuff crack sealer and done ur shed man..

@markstipulkoski1389 dude, I know. no can't be sprayed on roof it would deteriorate

closed cell
