Awesome, thanks for taking the time to give us a heads up on the water. I've only just moved to a helix 5 DI. Which I plan to use both summer and winter. This unit will replace my old hummingbird and my vexilar. The more I look the more I like! Stay safe and have a great season!
I do my mapping on my lil skiff, closest to the transducer and unit I can get for better mapping,I did do some spots with my bigger boat but made a mess of this bass area I fish, had to map it again with the lil skiff boat and looked better, but with the lowrance program, but now I'm looking into hummings now can't wait, nice video
Humminbird needs to setup a site so people can share their recorded maps. I know some spots are secret but a lot of areas aren't. I had a Garmin unit for a short while and used the Garmin Connect to download recorded maps people uploaded of an area. We fish an area where the navigation maps end so it was a real plus. I was able to add to what I downloaded with more recording. I also uploaded what I recorded. Great feature and Humminbird should do it to. Anyone saying that no one will want to upload their recorded maps is a bit naive. Not everyone is stuck on thinking all areas are a big secret. This goes beyond someone sharing their map folder with someone else. Garmin only uploaded the map no waypoints, no secret marked spots.
Also I am pretty sure you can take the card out once you have your mapping done and put it in another unit that does not have this feature and it will let that unit access the mapping data, for example you could lend it to a friend so they can have access to your hot spots etc.
I don't think the waypoints transfer with the map card, unless you specify it to do so. By default they save to the unit, but that is indeed true that I can give any Humminbird user with compatible units and they will have my created map.
A little tip I’ve learned. When l run fast my unit doesn’t show the depth so l have to turn off my mapping feature so it won’t record false info. I have some 250’ holes in my favorite fishing lake that isn’t 20’ deep.😅
Thanks for showing me how to drive a boat around . I already know that this unit can manually chart maps. What I really need to know is how to actually set up auto chart (what menu options to go to) .
Question for you.. I fought with auto chart live for 2 weeks after getting my helix 10 g4n. I could never see the colored path on the base map with contour lines as I mapped. Nobody, including Humminbird tech, could figure it out. Then by accident I found out that you have to zoom in to be able to see the depths and colored path as I map. Why doesn't anyone say you have to zoom on all these videos?
Run you side and down scan around the danger buoy. You might find it's a drain pipe opening that opens when needed and creates a whirlpool boats cant escape. Best to ask your water resources people or a department concerning farm irrigation. Not the place anchor and fish around if you detect grating down there.
Please tell me why I cannot see my shaded path as I am charting when using auto chart live. Software is updated and is gn4 unit. What screen do I go to after hitting record and what settings to get the shaded area each side of boat to show as I chart?
hey Mr. Moore, I have a simple question, I want to see the depth plot on the monitor on the go, how to set that? so far I can only see the tracking route line....
Yes buy the Autochart Zero Line card and you'll be good to go for recording your local lake that doesn't have mapping already. Be sure to turn it on in the settings and turn it off when you are running if your transducer doesn't read depth while on plane.
Thank you for the video. So what speed would you recommend when mapping? I noticed you are going around 3-4 but could I get away with 7-10 mph and the map still be accurate? Just trying to save some time.
I can do almost everything you could want with just one Helix 10 in the back and in the front. I like having the 10 over a 9 even if it seems like a minimal upgrade.
does this AutoChart Live also work on the newer units say the Helix 7 si G2N or the Helix 9si G2N? I'm looking at either the helix 7 or 9 but want SI DI GPS and traditional 2D
Matthew Carvill yes it should. I recorded autochart on my helix 10. When you are scoping your unit on Humminbird's website look for the autochart logo where it lists the unit features to be sure.
Ronnie Moore awesome Thankyou! I wanna jump and buy a 7 G2N w/ all the features but wouldn't mind having a 9 but with the season almost over I'm debating just waiting finishing the season with what's on the boat (lowrance elite 3) just the typical standard fish finder you find on most typical aluminum V's and over winter buy a nice 10 and then a 7 or 9 for up front
so the $100 question is do you have to buy the Autochart live card or will it write the data to any SD card. I'm not willing to pay 100 bucks for a blank SD card.
The SD Card isn't blank. It has map outlines already, just no contour data. Autochart has the writing feature so you can create your own data. Worth it. If you're willing to pay $100 for another kind of map card or GPS this is worth it if your lakes are incorrectly mapped or not at all.

Hey as long as you use your Helix 5 to its full potential you should be just fine!
I have a helix 5 and love it but it just says compatible with hummingbird lakemaster...do u think i could use autochart with it?
Yes I believe the 5 is the last line of units that can still do AutoChart.
One of my favorite lakes. I think there are Lakemaster maps now for that lake. Live in Wake Forest, go there often but use Lowrence and CMAP.

*Looks good even in daylight **enjoyable.fishing** recommend it was exactly what it was described to be , works awesome , overall happy with product*

Uncut angling did a video on this too and he explained the site that hummingbird uses if u wanna check that out
TheHerb What is the address to the Humminbird site to share recordings made using Auto Chart Live (card only users)?
im sorry i dont know the address ive only heard of it, im looking to buy a unit with the autochart so ive been gathering as mmuch info as i can!
Also I am pretty sure you can take the card out once you have your mapping done and put it in another unit that does not have this feature and it will let that unit access the mapping data, for example you could lend it to a friend so they can have access to your hot spots etc.

Nicely done- Thanks
do you need the PC software for this to work correctly?
Please tell me why I cannot see my shaded path as I am charting when using auto chart live. Software is updated and is gn4 unit. What screen do I go to after hitting record and what settings to get the shaded area each side of boat to show as I chart?
I bet this lake is on lake master now. The BPT let the world know about this gem..
hey Mr. Moore, I have a simple question, I want to see the depth plot on the monitor on the go, how to set that? so far I can only see the tracking route line....
You need to have your transducer mounted in the hull of your boat to read depth while you're driving more than 10 mph.
Thanks for your reply, I solved the problem by turn off and on the equipment, haha
How i can return from my garage in winter to a lake i chart with AutoChart Live this summer ?
Can you make a map of a lake without the GPS feature in this unit ?
Hi thanks for the video , for my fish finder helix 7 DI l have to buy zero cad line ?
Yes buy the Autochart Zero Line card and you'll be good to go for recording your local lake that doesn't have mapping already. Be sure to turn it on in the settings and turn it off when you are running if your transducer doesn't read depth while on plane.
thanks soo much , watch my videos , Regards form Ireland
What is the minimum size/ model Humminbird unit that will support Auto Chart?
gerard haubert helix 5 G2.
With the helix 9/10 units and the Minn Kota trolling ulterra trolling motor can you record up to 8 hours of maps before buying auto chart live?
Freaking awesome!
Thank you for the video. So what speed would you recommend when mapping? I noticed you are going around 3-4 but could I get away with 7-10 mph and the map still be accurate? Just trying to save some time.
Can I save my auto chart maps on a normal sd card?
Is this the mega looking to get the helix 10 mega or the helix 9 can't decide if I want to spend $400 on that extra inch

There needs to be an auto chart hotline. I find it all very confusing and calling humminbird only increased the confusion...😕
will it do it in background and still use DI and 2d? Say im mapping with my trolling motor transducter while I fish??
Yes it does!

Just buy a Navionics card then, double to price but you get thousands of lakes high quality like lakemaster.
