- Chances are you’ve encountered an unmapped lake, spot, or even a map but with poor accuracy and detail. Wired2Fish’s Ryan DeChaine faces such a situation on a small lake and walks through how to map an offshore hump using Humminbird’s AutoChart Live and ZeroLines card.

DeChaine uses a circular survey method instead of traditional transects to quickly and accurately map the structure. He then describes how to display and adjust bottom hardness data on top of the custom map; bottom hardness in conjunction with accurate 1-foot contour intervals reveals previously hidden spots on the spot, giving you an edge with your private lake map.

Making my own map is the reason i bought the Helix 7. I mostly fish small trout lakes and now i'm able to map out the lake and break it down. I have caught 100x more fish now because i can see the contours and know where the holes are or the flats. Game changer!!
Do you have to use the zero lines card or will it save to any card?
FANTASTIC Video on learning a lake better. Thanks Again RYAN for sharing your experience with fellow anglers.
Hey, you bet Rodney. Thanks for tuning in. -Ryan
Great info! I forgot that Humminbird does that and I have a brand new one just installed on the boat. Very well explained. One of the best informative videos that I have seen. Could have used it last week in TN as my LakeMaster map is for the south and that map was not on it.
Glad to hear, Garmin and Lowrance have their own versions as well... not sure about Raymarine. Humminbird got it right from the onset -- it's been a useful and fun tool. Good luck mapping! -Ryan
Love my auto chart live. I use it for a lot of my small lakes. Now I'm the only one with a map of'em.
Good stuff Ryan! 💯
You bet Ra Lo.
Question for you.. I fought with auto chart live for 2 weeks after getting my helix 10 g4n. I could never see the colored path on the base map with contour lines as I mapped. Nobody, including Humminbird tech, could figure it out. Then by accident I found out that you have to zoom in to be able to see the depths and colored path as I map. Why doesn't anyone say you have to zoom on all these videos?
Amazing technology. Thanks for sharing. Is the AutoChart Live feature on Gen 2 Helix also? Keep informative videos like this coming!!!
How we can go in a lake where i have already use AutoChart Live this summer in winter from my garage
Where does the map load to? I dont want to use up a lot of my units storage. Would I be able to put it on as SD card
I was just reading the manual on line and it says that it stores up to 8 hours of live data to the Solix head unit. If you want more than that, you have to purchase the ZeroLine Map Card from Hummingbird for "unlimited" mapping. I am not sure if you are able to export the data to a regular SD card or not.
do you need to also buy the PC software for this all to work correctly?
Any idea if going over an area you already mapped takes up more storage or overwrites the old data? Like could you fill up your storage if you where just going in circles for hours on end?
Going over old data and "adding to it" is excellent practice when custom mapping. Just make sure water levels are the same so data and interpolation between data points doesn't become skewed. Additional data adds accuracy to your existing maps. Humminbird was the fish finder used in this custom mapping video -- their internal storage for sonar logs is up to 8 hours so you can easily fill that up. If you do a lot of mapping, you'll need their AutoChart Live Zero Lines Card (SD card), which provides you several years worth of mapping/sonar log recording capacity. Just make sure to periodically back the data up to a computer! Here's a link to a rich Humminbird LakeMaster Blog Post: wired2.fish/LakeMasterBlog
@@Wired2Fish Thanks! I literally just received and installed my zero lines card today for my Helix 10!
