I started shaving with a Gillette safety razor when I was 16. After using disposable razors for 45 years, I am ready to go back to more traditional shaving. Your videos are outstanding. Sort of crazy to spend 20 mins watching someone else shave, yet your approach and instruction is truly invaluable to generations of men who may have never experienced a true shaving experience. Thanks for keeping the tradition alive and encouraging men to be real men.

After seeing this video, it sold me on the Rex Ambassador razor. Your video was incredibly informative, you showed how to use the razor, and the features of it. You've become one of my most favorite shaving channels on UA-cam now. I also saw your thanksgiving video from last year, your message was so heart warming and wholesome. Many best wishes to you!

I boughgt my RA a month ago. I wished it was a longer handle. But I got used to it and really like the length. Now they come out with the longer handle. Not sure if I want to get one or not. I probably will because it's in my head now. I tell you, the build quality of the RA, is really amazing.

Great video Geo! I've watched all of your "XL" razor videos over the years and can't help notice that, when you point out that, "you can really whip it around"... I always think to myself that is the main reason I prefer the standard sized razor lengths. For me, the longer handles tend to invite more arcing (less linear strokes)... which destroy my jaw and neck. Especially with back hand technique. Just my technique I'm sure. I'll have to work on it with my Futur, and 38c. As always, thanks for the great content. Have to get one of those G-Shock bands too. Top of the Class!

Not going to lie, the long-handled version is much more appealing to me. I think it gives it a better balance by stretching out all that weight and moving some of it down into your palm. Just my $0.02. Thanks for the excellent video as always GFB!

Nicely done Geo💈💈 I've had the Ambassador and Envoy by REX since inception and always wanted a long handled version, now I can send my razor in and they will install the longer XL handle and I get to keep my early serial number. Looks like a winner to me, but no way could I use the #6 setting like you did, my skin won't handle much more than #3.5-4. The Fine soap scent sounds good, of course the performance is top shelf as always. Great shave with no issues, well done. Great video of course. Enjoy!

I have the original Rex, and I think it's excellent they have released an XL version. The only criticism I have is, the XL would have been slightly better, if the knurling went all the way down from the adjustment dial to the bottom where you loosen it (like it does on the standard version).
I love to go from mildest to more agressive when using an adjustable. On the Rex I go 2 for first pass, 3 for second, and 4 or 5 for the against the growth. It's a practice that works really well for me. I figure that on the last pass, the hair is at the shortest, and can be picked up better with a higher setting that has more blade gap.
    Nice video!

I see you have been waiting for the Rex XL, the Rockwell model T2 should be in the rotation eh? And you reviewed it faster than the folks that made it. And while I’m on a roll perhaps the Spartacus vs feather shavette loaded with a Super. They seem to be the straight razors you circle back to. Time for the main event? Food for thought. It’s not continuously adjustable like the Rex, it has clicks. And light detents. But, that doesn’t really seem to make a difference. There is of course a huge diminishing return for alot of old school equipment nowadays, a 20 quid SR is still gonna get the job done efficiently as a 200 quid one, like a cheap fountain pen is practically as good of a writer as a mont blanc. Its more to do with the overall care and build quality of the item, how much 'love and care' that's been put into it. I understand from a efficient point of view that this would be overkill on the budget for what you get, but it is worth the money for those who want that bit more in its craftsmanship, getting it for more then just the shaving aspect.

Pat, I'm going to politely disagree with you here. I have learned over the years to not just look at price. I got back into the DE razor world a few years ago and bought a razor and tried shaving with it. Could not get a close shave and really cut my face up. I tried for a week and gave up. Back to cartridge razors. Then earlier this year I thought I would try it again, but did more research then and found geofatboy's channel. Discovered my razor, a Parker 80C, was cheaply made and had been discontinued. I assume because of QC problems. This was evident in my razor given the blade reveal was off from one corner to the other. (Yes, I think I spent around $30) I decided to spend some more money went with the Hensen. Great razor, but probably a little too mild for me. Works great on my head, but too mild for my face, unless I can find a good blade. So I'm going down the rabbit hole of trying different blades. I could get the medium Hensen, but then carry two razors when I travel. This led me to adjustable razors. Given my experience with a razor made in India, I want something made in the US. That means, yes, I'm going to have to pay more for it. Also, I like helping out local/small businesses. That means I will pay more for items. Given my engineering background, I understand the work that goes not only into designing something, but the tolerances for machining required for something that is holding a very sharp blade we drag across our face! Then you have the economics of scale. Rex is machining in the US in Arizona and finishing in his shop. What does that mean? You have an American designed and made razor from American parts finished in the America. What you don't have is a big corporation making thousands of these a day on machines that do go out of tolerance. I also look at customer service. As an example, Shave Nation is great at the little things. This is evident in just the care that they take in packing the shipments. From what I understand, Rex is on the third iteration of the Ambassador head based on customer feedback. The XL could be considered a 4th with just a longer handle. Just another example of customer service. Listening to your customers. Do I own an Ambassador? No. Do I want one? YES! If Santa comes through, I'll let you know if it is worth it! Have a great day!

@@gawoodbridge Parker is garbage, no argument here. Iffy build quality and too aggressive. However, I remain steadfast on the cheap razor. I've consistently had comfortable shaves with regular bar soap and the Weishi 9306 (well under $20) and a Astra green blade on it's twentieth use. My Vikings Blade Slim & Mild also returns smooth, uneventful shaves for under twenty bucks. No reason to spend anymore than thirty dollars for a decent razor. Not only ridiculous but a tremendous waste of money imo. All that extra money spent on expensive razors could be donated to the local shelter or church.
