Geo
its like watching a master swordsman at work :) , I have much to learn oh Master Geofatboyson.
100% agree. Of all the shaving bloggers I've seen his technique is by far the best, sort of mesmerizing to watch.
He still is my go to for learning and selecting products.
Valentin P. Yeah I just came across it about 2 months ago and was an instant convert. Now I love shaving.
Thank you grasshopper... When you can take the pebble from my hand, it will be time for you to leave...

Hey Geo, just spoke with you on the phone about having arthritic hands, thank you very much for your help. You have a customer for life, it was an absolute pleasure talking with you. Thanks again. Joe.
Thanks Joe, It was great talking to you as well. If you need anything else, don't hesitate. I hope one of those razors works for you.
I'm new to double edge safety razor game, but thanks to Geo I'm catching up to speed 👍.

I love my Edwin Jagger DE89. Been wet shaving for 20 years using cheaper safety razors. But the DE89 has changed my life. I love shaving now. When paired with Wilkinson Sword or Astra blades, the razor perform like a charm. No discomfort, no razor burns.
Thanks Geo. I learned a lot from your videos and thanks to you, I enjoy my daily shave. Stay safe and all my best to you.
Yes the DE89 is a classic and gives an incredible shave
I thought about getting me another one myself. I use to love the Brazillian made Gillette Platinum Plus blades in it and if I could not get one of those, the Gillette Wilkinson Sword Saloon pack blades.
@@knightmare1015 I have a good collection of razors. Mostly ones that most guys who wet shave are familiar with. I bought some and some were gifts. Most shave really well. The Merkur Futur and Progress are excellent. But every now and then I go back to my 34C and most recently my DE89. The DE89 gives me excellent results with all my favourite blades. Definitely a good razor. But they need extra care. Wipe dry after every use and don't drop it. I've had mine for quite some time and it looks as good as new.
Geo💈💈 Nice straight up shave, no fooling around, no BS. The R89 is a great razor, not mild and not aggressive but middle of the road, gave mine to my son, must get another. Proraso is also a top choice, all varieties are great. Watching you is refreshing as there's no drama, no crying, no blah blah blah, just precise explanation and dead on shaving expertise, thanks. Be safe in that crazy city. Enjoy!
Thanks Terry. Your kind words and support are greatly appreciated!
Stainless Feather with Feather blades. Had it for six years. Absolutely worth the money!!
Nice!
I've only tried one safety razor and that's the Van Der Hagan. Had it since last August and have not shaved with anything else since. Even though it's apparently a very mild razor that blade is still pretty damn sharp compared to the other razors I've used in the past. Gets the job done.
This man made me a fanatic for shaving supplies! I have bought probably way too many razors and shave bowls because of knowing the variety i could have. Geo thank you so much for opening my eyes to safety razors i will never go back to those terrible Gillette razors! Still cut myself from time to time but now i do not get the razor burn i use to get and the shave is so much better than before.
I'm happy to help! I'm glad you're lovin' your shaves!
Love my Gillette slim adjust..... 1960 model, and my Edwin Jagger..... and you’re using my favorite shaving cream and balm! Thanks Geo!
Good stuff! Thanks Brian.
Love your story! I was laid off in 2008 but was able to fall back on a previous line of work. I just made my second order from Shave Nation!
Thanks Samuel-Never Give Up!
@@geofatboy your solid bruv👌
I started with the R89 and have got used to using it with feathers and BICs. I am very happy with the results. I also have the R41 which is superb on heavier growth. Thanks to your reviews I’m now looking at the Rocca 😁.
Cheers, Geo!
I only have a cheap 20 dollar safety razor (with Wilkinson razor blades), but i have hardly any bumps (and my shaves are butter smooth, and only one or two nicks)
Thank you for your videos.
I´m also using a Mühle Razor. It´s one of the Best.
R89 Twist + Feather! Got to get the twist with a feather blade or Perma Sharp an excellent shave every time and my go-to
R89 Twist + feather blade + Muhle badger brush + Arko soap + Proraso red aftershave + blue balm is my every morning recepy.
Weekend can be R41 Twist instead of R89, TOBS sandalwood soap and aftershave. Great stuff.
My current favorite has to be the Karve Christipher Bradley safety razor in brass.. Highly recommend checking it out.
My favorite is the Rockwell 6S on #5 with a Feather or Perma-Sharp Super. I'm going to try that R89 twist one of these days. Have an awesome weekend!
Sounds good Johnny-Take care.
On 5 i would need a paramedic on standby
How's it's going Geofatboy ?)
Well I see that you are a guy who did not disappoint me, after quite a few years in the fascinating world of wet shaving and having tried thousands of safety razors, you have chosen a true representative of the classic Mühle has tradition and excellent finishes, closed comb an excellent Smooth shave, my everyday drive is a Mühle R41 that with an excellent Geofatboy-style technique one pass with the grain and the second pass against the grain (RIDING THE CAP) gives me an excellent shave.
Cheers ⚔️💯💯👍🏻💯
Way to go Jonny! You got the system down and the B-E-A-S-T tamed!
Rockwell 6C plates 4 and 3
Feather blade
Mitchell’s Woolfat
Perfection!
I think u right
My favorite is muhle R41 and after that other favorites are Rockwell 6c and Italico open comb razor.
Hi Geo! Just gotta say I am 26 and just started off with wet shaving here in Canada. I decided on the R89 twist as my very first razor as I don't think I'd like the lighter short razors. I'm lacking skill but with the Astra blades I've got a few good first shaves and no cuts! Love the recommendation, beautiful heavy piece of equiment. After a few months of practice I may pick up an adjustable of some sort or something more aggressive 👌 cheers man love your channel 🙏
bit.ly/R89TwistRazorSN You made a great choice for a beginner's razor:
Great shaving skill, fast and clean. I can't do it so fast.
Greetings from Italy
An Italian saying "I can't do it that quick' wow!!
After I purchased my Rockwell Razor approximately 3 years ago, I use it exclusively now even though I own about 15 different razors, it is smooth and pure perfection. My second favorite is my Muhle R41 for heavy growth.
I took the new Razorock Lupo (Gold). Light and nifty. I loved her.
My favorite modern razor is an Edwin Jagger with the Barley Chrome handle. My favorite vintage razor would have to be the Gillette Fat Boy. My favorite single edge razor is the Gem Featherweight.
I just got into wet shaving last 6 months. Just tried this razor after watching this.
It definitely is something special.
My 2’nd DE razor was a R89 and after 10+ years it’s still my favourite 🤩👍🏼
One of the most popular razors for beginners!
The Mühle always reminds me of Obi Wan's Lightsaber with the knob on the bottom. Great razor, I got one too. Greetings from northern Germany✌️
Woh-Love that analogy! Good stuff!
Wolfman with WR2 is my go to now and I’ve come from Timeless .95 which is also a very efficient razor
My favorite safety razor is Rockwell 6C plate #3 and #4. Is perfect for my sensitive skin. I love it!
Thanks for sharing Vlad!
Well at the moment my go-to right now is the Rockwell Model T with a Gillette Silver Blue blade it is a bit heavy as I have a wrecked right shoulder but boy it is really good. I also like the Gillette Super Slim 109 and the Feather razors with a mixture of the above blade or a Feather , Personna , or Polsilver blades. I am two pass shave as three passes cause me some irritation though the TOBS for sensitive skin is good for that too.
Sounds like a winning combo John. Enjoy!
Purchased this razor based on this video and haven't look back. Really works with me for coarse beard and sensitive skin. I'm using same brand blade as razor plus either prosaso aloe Vera or Taylor of old bonds Street sensitive or sandalwood and pure badger or Simpson brush
Very nice looking shaving bowl ,thanks for sharing your favorite de razor
Thanks Nate!
Hello Geo! My go to razor is the Merkur 37C HD slant bar, it’s beast mode. Pair it with Astra green or Pol Silver super iridium ( even Castor Troy is a little afraid of feathers 😉 )
*"It's Like Looking In A Mirror Only… Not." *
geofatboy 🤣🤣 perfect!! I’ll be quoting that at the next shave.
Hi Geo- Great shave; thank you! Nice choice of razor! I hope you are enjoying the weekend. Please take good care. Be safe and be well! Best regards, as always!
Hi Mike-take care.
I'm almost exclusively SE now, alot of AC and Gem style.
geo thanks for the vids, i used to hate shaving but now i look forward to it.
That's what it's all about!
My daily driver is the Edwin Jagger DE9 with the "corn cob" handle. But my favorite would be my 1958 Gillette superspeed red tip. It gives a great shave, especially if doing three passes.
The Deadly Duo!
Sorry for the late review geo but the blue proraso is my second favorite cream after the green line, such a beautiful scent that lots of wet shavers don't like.
Thanks for sharing!!
Loving your vids, Geofatboy. You are the Yoda of shaving!!
I just ordered a twist it looks gorgeous 😍 ordered the stand also and some muhle blades along with muhle sandalwood shaving soap. Looking forward to some pampering now.. thanks for the video.
Hope you enjoy it!
"Hey this head looks familiar" - me at the beginning, recently switched to "
KOSMO" shaver also from Muehle and I can't believe how great it is. Precise, high comfort and very high quality. 0 force applied from my side.
My favourites at the moment is , the Merkur 34c and the Merkur 23c. I plan to get a feather AS D2 , but money is tight at the moment. Who knows the AS D2 might be the favourite. Great video Geo.
The Feather ASD2 will be a slightly less aggressive shaving than those two wildly popular razors.
I have the AS-D2. Beautiful build quality. It does require an adjustment in technique as there’s a specific angle it will work well at like 45 degree. Persist and you’ll get used to it within a week or two depending on how often you shave. Very solidly made and it will last you probably its lifetime barring any accidents like the metal handle being bent.
Wow, this is a tough one to call. I own several razors that I enjoy shaving with. If I had to choose one razor, it would be my Merkur Progress.
Thanks for sharing the video, Geo!
A time tested classic!
Hi Geo,
First, I picked up a Vikings Blade Crusader (hmmm), next, I bought a Jagger regular handle Chrome (shiny things) which I truly love.
But since I am looking for the ultimate Zen in shaving, I bowed to the master and bought an R89 Twist which gives me the extra length in the handle and the twist design. I wish I would have found your videos sooner.
Thanks, I really like your videos, they are both informative and entertaining. I find myself watching them when I have insomnia. LOL!
Thanks! I'm sure I put a lot of people to sleep!
My favorite and daily go-to is the Merkur 38 (the two-piece barber pole).
Yep- Very nice medium shaver as well.
The Merkur 38 is my personal favorite also. Love the weight, the feel in my hand and it always delivers a great shave!
I recently tried the Muhle R89 Grande and that’s a great shave also.
Great videos just got a r89 Grande and love it.
Geo,
As a newbie I was lost until I purchased my first open comb safety razor from Shave Nation. The Merkur 15C is now my favorite. I look to get a Merkur 25c next. Happy shaving 👍😉
It depends on how thick is your beard. I got my first open comb razor last week, the Mühle R41, and I’m very happy with it because my beard is like steel wire and the razor cuts everything with no problem. 2 years and a half have been passed since I purchased an Edwin Jagger DE89 as my first safety razor.
@@PorkoRoso like steel LOL !!!
That's hilarious. Thanks for the insight.
Hi Geo, My favorite razor is Rockwell 6C with the R3 plate for my first two passes, and the R1 plate for my last pass. Normally I use the Derby Extra blade. Stay safe and take care.
Sounds like a winning formula-Enjoy!
Pearl L55 Close Comb (Made In India) is my favourite go DE Safety Razor. But lately, I'm falling for Shavettes and will procure Parker's SR1 soon.
Try Muhle R41 + Feather blades. Every other day, not every day. You will thank me later.
Futur hands down. From smooth to mega aggro. No other razor I tried is as thorough as the Futur.
Futur for the Win! As long as you can maneuver it under your nose sufficiently.
I just got my first nice razor after getting into this with a Rockwell R1. The razor I bought was a RazoRock .68 JAWS and it was an amazing shave. Love the heft
RazoRock make excellent razors at very reasonable prices .
Thank you for the video. As I am in classic razor shaving since yesterday I am pleased to find out, that there is a small company in Germany manufacturing everyday products at a competitive price (still saving Money for a NOMOS) . This may be another "Hidden Champion". R89 Twist will be my 1st razor.
Thanks for sharing! What's the name of the company?
@@geofatboy I actually meant Mühle as I was not aware of the company before.
Wonderful shave,
I really enjoyed watching a master at work.
It would be cool to see a new video of, say, your top three favorite safety razors and why you like each of them.
Rockwell 6S plate #3 for me with a Feather blade.
Love that stainless steel construction!
My go to razor is the Feather Artist club SS with the straight handle. It's so easy to use
No that's a close shave!
@@geofatboy You can say that again!
Hey again Geo,
Glad to see you’re posting more and more shave vids. They’re just really fun to watch, especially with the new creams/soaps and aftershaves you throw in from time to time! At some point, would you please review the TI Spartacus? It’s been a while since we last saw it in action, and it’d be great to hear your thoughts on its design and performance. Thanks!
- Nick
Thanks Nicholas-Tune into my next video. The Spartacus makes a cameo appearance!
Got to be the Merkur 23C Long Handle on a daily basis and the Merkur R41 if I'm feeling brave !
Mine too, the Merkur 23C long handle is a wonderful razor!
Adjustment to my first post it should be the Muhle 41 of course !
Actually that's the most popular Merkur safety razor...
@@geofatboy
Thanks for the reply.Watched your self haircut video recently and am going to take the plunge this week. You made a good job of it I'm more likely to resemble a Picasso painting or a gulag prisoner !
Is it suitable for beginners?
My favorite, so far, is the Vikings Blade Crusader adjustable (frosted chrome)
Well I know what razor I'm using today 😉 One of my favorites in my collection
Which would be?
@@geofatboy The R89 Twist

🤘😃🤘
Geo, thank you very much for a great service!
Just used this razor for the first time and it's the best I've ever shaved with.
Have a great shave, have a great day!
Glad you enjoy it!
As a german, i am proud, that Mühle is your favorite. Have a nice day.
I don’t have a favourite razor. I like to rotate through my collection of DE open, DE closed and straight razors to prevent my face and stubble getting too used to one type of razor. I have found that despite always using a new blade when DE shaving or freshly stropped straight razor and remaining consistent with preparation/product use, using the same razor for a number of consecutive daily shaves can reduce the closeness of the result. Has anyone else noticed something similar? Maybe this is just my justification for owing so many razors....
You may be correct. I think it takes your face a few days to become accustomed to any new razor.
For me 1st Merkur 37C then 2nd muhle R89 , if i got more than a week beard muhle R41
Giacomo-You got if figured out!
why do you like the merkur 37C??
@@gummybear41283 It's very delicate but at the same time very effective razor , armed with stainless bolzano or feather , kai , even with long beard I have no problem at all , this is for me , wet shaving is extremely personal something that is great for me could be bad for you and viceversa
Ha, I’d never have correctly guessed Geo’s favourite. If put on the spot, I’d have picked a more aggressive razor as his best one.
Mine was a slight toughie. The Rockwell 6S always springs to mind. But no, I’d say the Muhle R41 Grande is atop my list.
Agreed. While I'm not surprised at the feather blade, I too would have thought a more aggressive razor. Perhaps an open comb design.
Mark Botta ...Yea, my thoughts exactly. I’m pleasantly surprised at his choice of the R89 which, to be fair, is a first-class razor in its own right. Only I didn’t expect a shaving veteran virtuoso like Geo picking it as his fave. Btw, I love Feather and Kai blades best. And Perma-Sharp. My R41 gets to have all of them by rotation. What’s your favourite razor and blade?
@@sajjadhusain4146 I made a separate post about my daily driver being an Edwin Jagger DE89. My favorite razor is a 1958 Gillette superspeed red tip.
Mark Botta ..Oh, I hadn’t noticed your post. Cool. The EJ DE89 is a really stylish, dependable and pretty efficient razor on any given day for a good shave. I like it better than the Merkur 34C which it’s always compared to by everybody.
@@sajjadhusain4146 I've never seen the 34C in person. But, in pictures, the razor heads look pretty similar to each other. So I can see why there would be comparisons.
Now that is a nice bowl👍😀
Thanks Jason! Lots of good ones here: shavenation.com/collections/lather-bowls
I prefer the "normal" R89 Grande since you can easily switch the razor head and use a Mühle open comb on it too.
I love your harley. I got a 115th anniversary street glide.
I Have found a travel kit from eBay and it had a Gillette razor small handle I bought a large handle for it although bought other razors, this Gillette gives me a very good shave also with their blade Gillette in my opinion are as good as any other company I'm from the UK.
i just use muhle r41 ..its clean and simple and no worries...had it years and dont think i ever need another as its well made, with a solid screw thread.
Hey Geo, You are always using Hot Water for prepping to shave. How do you feel about Cold Water prepping for your shave? I mean Cold water face wash, Cold water mixing for lather in the bowl. As well as Cold water rinsing. To sum up; All cold water shaving process? As I understand it. It's supposed to be good for sensitive skin.

Hi Geo, do you have a favourite straight razor ? What do you reach for the most when straight shaving.
bit.ly/BokerSNStraightRazor This one
Hey Geo, what is your favorite shaving soap or shaving cream?
That's a whole other video topic! Thanks for the request.
Big hugs from Ecuador man!
Eeesh.. If I had to pick one of the razors I have, probably my Parker SRX, However I do like the longer blades that the Dovo Shavette can accommodate, but I have a plastic handle Dovo and really prefer the weight of the Parker. Merkur 23C is my DE go-to though.. Waiting on a Rockwell 6C
Great Video as usual, I’m new to the safety razor game. I had just picked up Merkur Heavy Duty Long Barber Pole 38c but after seeing this video I’m now thinking the Muhle R89 Twist may be a better option at the same price point. What do you think between the two in comparison?
Both will shave similarly, but I prefer the R89 Twist between those 2.
best shaver on the internet
IMO, The Feathers AS-D2 All Stainless Razor lov it.
Beautiful, yet mild.
Oh! Really i thought it will be Muhle R41. No doubt Muhle R89 Twist also a good Razor but for me its is mild. I like aggressive razors.
Thanks Zaheer!
how does this one compare to the Edwin Jagger DE89? What about the R41?
Thanks Geo…I learned so much😀
Great! Thanks Conrad.
Gio the best and my favorite UA-camr for shaving and one of my favorites in general. However I have to ask tho, WHERES THE ALUM BLOCK?
I was wondering that too!
He did mention in the video that he needs to shave up really quick when
he is in a hurry for a birthday party or a wedding and probably forgot :)
It happens even to the best of us.
Fantastic. Thank you... How do you clean the razor... Do you ever put oil etc etc on it... As its metal.... I'm new to DE shaving.... Thank you....
Great style, fun videos.
whoa..hold many shaves do you get with the Feather blade? thanks
above: 4-5
My husband loves your videos, but can you settle a debate for us? Is the brick a green screen? We love it!
Hey Geo, how are you? Hope your doing well my friend. Another great video.
I wanted to ask do you think that the Proraso blue smells similar to Gillette pure? Also which do you prefer splashes or balms?
Greetings Samuel! I haven't smelled Gillette Pure yet, I reach for balms much more often than splashes. Especially in the winter.
Proraso blue has a clean smell with a hint of licorice. Gillette Pure has a highly synthetic, cheap cologne smell. Disappointing because the soap is an excellent performer - slick, rich, easy to later.
Excellent video Geo!!!
I am looking for a safety razor for beginner!
I am sick of disposable 2 blades razor
Rockwell 6S. Shaves like a dream. No nicks, bandaids, or tears.
Nice: shavenation.com/search?q=6s
I thought it is the fat boy~ anyway, is there any differences between EJ de89 and mulhle 89? Thx! Great video.
The Fatboy is also one of my all-time faves!
Pretty much the same head and level of aggression
Have the same razor, I love it (how many shaves do you get from a feather blade?)
Usually 4-5...
My favorite razor is the Merkur Solingen 23 C.
My favorite razor is fatip piccolo😍
Nice Geo. I got many also,
The new Proraso blue aftershave balm has a different scent, not so much of aloe anymore.
Verification please-did they change the formula again? Gotta check into that.
