- Well, I did it. I bought the Rex Ambassador (used) the adjustable safety razor turned out to be like an acquaintance I didn't quite understand or care for and worked it's way into my heart. The adjustments on the razor are great, comfortable, and easy to dial in. As safety razors go this one is a mainstay for now in my den.

I told you there's just something special about holding an Ambassador. It's not the best shaver in my den, but I love it anyway. I thnk it's hilarious that the dog was the deciding factor in the exodus of the mustache. Congrats on 500, Greg. Just keep doing what you're doing. We're having fun watching.
I bought one and after three weeks it started to rust. Sent pics to the "Nation" that sold it to me, and he sent them on to Rex. They blamed me for not taking care of it properly, which is ridiculous. "Nation" suggested I buy a metal polish that he sells and use that to rid the rust. In the end, no one stood behind the quality of the razor and it now sits unused in my drawer. I wouldn't sell it because I'd feel guilty about selling a problem product to someone else.

A number of my shaving buddies swear by the Rex, but they also advised me to steer clear because they know I like lighter mild razors. Great little talk video and video art at the start.

Gray! And I just ordered the Ambassador im going to pick it up from them tomorrow and can't wait to try it out. I was on edge after hearing on lowest setting it can still be too aggressive but even those reviews still have lots of compliments on every other aspect of the razor. Cause of the BF deals of 25% i decided it was worth a shot
Nice! It takes time to get used to a razor. This one took a week or so more than I’m used to but that’s ok. I like this razor a lot now and I hope you have many awesome shaves with it! Thanks for watching 👍

You are certainly very welcome mayne! I'm super glad that you're digging it. As I've stated, I found it very aggressive. Super glad it found a good home with a swell dude! As far as blade loading; I held the cap upside down in my hand, placed the blade over the threaded portion and onto the cap. Then put the razor body itself on and tighten. Vaa-la! Easy peasy lemon squeezy!! Again, and as usual, great video!!

Yes took me a while to like it, you right need to be paired with a sharp blade. I do it with Feather blade which gives a daily consistent good shave. Now I use it as my daily drive planning to get rid of other razors I have.
I used Astras at first with my Ambassador. I settled on Voskhods and they work great for me in that razor! The longer I'm into wet shaving I'm learning that it's not just the razor and blade combo but also what soap I use. I find the Rex Ambassador/Voskhod combo works better for me with PAA and Southern Witchcrafts soaps but not so much with Stirling soaps. I've got a Rockwell T2 in transit so I'm excited to check it out.

What will a Rex Ambassador do that my almost 60 year old Gillette Slim Adjustable already does?

I've had mine about a week now, but still don't feel I have the technique down well enough to fire it up just yet. Nacet blade is a decent suggestion, I might use one on my maiden voyage.
How much did you buy your rex ambassador? Just curious and it is personal. Planning on selling a rex since I have two and don't see the point in having both of them.

yeah! and then she said she missed it so i grew it back and then my wife said she didn't like it so then i shaved it off haha it's a cycle.
Indecision is a sign of intelligence, in being able to see different sides of an issue. Being smart can be hard but it's better than the opposite! Nice razor! Built to last.

I can’t trust my own heart either…I ordered this week the brass indian copy of Rex: Pearl Flexi, I am having high hopes for it. I also read about the Denali Razor, the legitimate brother of Rex, you should check it out if you have problems with blade loading into Rex.

Blue is my favorite color. I have shaved with the Rex Ambassador and it is a great adjustable razor. I found it a little too aggressive for me though on settings 1 & 2. It seems perfect in every other way though. I haven’t sold it because I keep thinking it will grow on me. I guess we’ll see.
Hey there! Yeah I agree, it is a bit more on the aggressive side. I found that since I started doing part of my shaves with a shavette I have been leaning more towards aggressive razors and settings...at least recently. who knows though, with the dry winter months coming up I may lean back towards mild razors haha. Blue is my dad's favorite color too. If you do decide to sell it, I think you'll find it pretty easy to off load. What blades have you tried in the ambassador?
@@GregTardif I have used the Astra Platinum blades. I will be shaving with the Ambassador more because my technique has been improving. I know I can get a good shave with an aggressive razor because I got a smooth two pass shave with the Muhle R41. Something about the Ambassador still just kind of strikes me the wrong way in a way that makes me much myself. If I sell it, I will be sure to let you know though. The main reason I haven’t tried it more is because I have been shaving daily with the Tatara Muramasa. I have been using Feather blades in it. It seems like the perfect adjustable for me except for the lather channels. Hey. I’ll trade you my Ambassador for a T2! I guess you already have both though. Maybe I’ll get a T 2 for Christmas. We’ll have to see.
@@beyproctor7673 i have heard awesome things about the Tatara razor. I have been liking the Nacet blade in mine. Haven't tried a feather but maybe has something to do with the sharpness, I didnt like the Ambassador with the Astra SP as much as the Voskhod or the Nacet.
@@GregTardif Tatara recommends Featger blades and shipped them with the Masamune. I think maybe because the first two settings have a negative blade exposure a sharper blade works well. I’m not really sure but they have been working great for me in the Muramasa.

My color? Sky blue. Can you compare Rockwell 6S and Rex Ambassador? I have 6S and it seems that it is so smooth, that you can't cut yourself even if you try. I heard that Rex is a bit more aggressive and that it is not as smooth as 6S. What do you think? Can you tell me more about the similarities and differences between 6S and Rex Ambassador? You guess that my next goal is Rex Ambassador (XL) and I collect data, whether it is worth buying or not.

I agree with what you said about the Rex Ambassador. I don't remember if I've used a Nacet in it but one of the other commenters likes Voskhod and I know that I've tried them but they left no impression either good or bad, just meh. I'll try a Nacet in the near future after trying a Treet 'Black Beauty' that I just queued up. Plus the postal carrier just dropped off a box from PAA that has two 'Cubes' and some CK-6 soap. It promises to be a fun week (or two).

The Gillette Nacet is my goto blade. What did you mean about trouble changing the blade on the Ambassador? That's one of the neat things about it because all you do is lift off the top cap and the blade sticks to the base and you just slide it off. I was considering getting the XL version of the Ambassador but got the Envoy XL instead with another 20% discount from Razor Emporium. Unfortunately I haven't used it yet because the top cap was burned on one edge from the surface finishing process, but they are sending me a new cap.
Well I tried the Feather SS Shavette just a little while ago and was really disappointed. I only got as far as the left cheek and neck and switched to my brass Karve with a Nacet. I think it's the Pro Guard blades that have little ridges on the sharp edge to make it safer. The blade is working but it feels like it's a used raggedy edge which feels crappy to me. I guess I will have to get another type to try, but those darn things cost $17 for only 15 of them which could buy a sleeve of many DE blades. Major bummer.
My fav color is BLUE, which is why I'm a bit disappointed in the new Sacre Bleu aftershave being green. What the heck?
I find the blade shifts around a lot on me when I’m “locking it down” even if I load on the top cap, the tenons on mine don’t engage until it is pretty well screwed in (just need to get used to it I reckon). Nice on the envoy xl! May have to put that on the wish list. Sorry about the shavette, the angle is a funny thing to me with that. Just take your time and you should be fine. That’d be nice if it were blue (especially with the name) original Aqua Velva was amber which is pretty interesting

Yeah now I know what you are talking about. What I do is lay the top cap down with the threads up and put the blade on. Then I slide the handle over it and press down which puts tension on the blade and aligns it, and then tighten the knob. I have a shelf to rest it on while doing this, but trying to do it in your hand would be very awkward and just asking for a cut.
As for the shavette, I'm sure it was that type of blade and not the angle, as I did vary it while using.
Thanks! Yeah I have a hard counter. If it had a little blade over hang on the sides it’d be great maybe but then not as well engineered. I tried a Astra SP in half in my shavette and was happy enough with the results

Well the Feather uses Artist Club blades so I'm limited on what I can use compared to a DE, but I will just have to experiment.

I just missed out on an eBay listing for a used Rex for $150, it sold in literally 3 minutes, but I enjoy the Merkur Futur and thought it would be similar in performance, how would you compare them?
I find the Futur to be more aggressive all the way around. I think the Rex Ambassador can be dialed in from almost mild to pretty aggressive. Maybe I should try the futur again… Sorry you missed the eBay listing. That is a good price
@@GregTardif The Futur is aggressive and the highest I can go is 3, probably the aggression scale is similar to a Merkur progress, The Rex is a beautiful razor all stainless steel should last a lifetime. I also missed out on the scratch & dent sale on the Rex website, they were $134.00 but no returns and whatever you were sent you had to live with it so I didn’t get it, I’m thinking I should’ve taken the chance with it. Enjoy the Rex, make some comparison videos on it?

Oh, the finally I found the person with Futur and Ambasador. How these two are compare? Maybe rex is less aggressive or mild compare to futur..
Overall, the futur is more aggressive all the way through. The ambassador isn’t a mild razor. But starts out more mild and can open up a bit more closer to the futur’s final form

@@GregTardif I live about 30 minutes from their shop. I dropped off the razor and an old Ever Ready brush for a tune up/new brush knott. I left it on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving and it was ready for pick up the following Monday. Excellent work, I'm extremely happy.

I just bought the Rex Ambassador and it's a little rough on my skin and I think I like the Yaqi Ultima better because it doesn't tug on my skin as much and it seems much smoother, probably due to the blade angle.
do you just return the Ambassador or hope it grows on you? I have just purchased a Pearl Flexi which is supposed to be a clone of the Rex Ambassador. I read that Ambassador seems to be too agressive with too much blade feel even at lower settings. Otherwise, I'd go for the Rex instead of Flexi.

I still kind of want the Rex Ambassador even though currently very happy with the Game Changer 84 and the 6S. Going to get a Lupo 95 when they are available again. The Rex has always been appealingn to me but I want to know for sure I'll enjoy shaving with it too. OH and my favorite color is Blue!

@@GregTardif Did you find it to be harsh or too aggressive? That's the common feedback people give. I would like to find a durable adjustable to add to the fleet but I don't think I would keep it either if it's less desireable to use than what I have now.

@@GregTardif I understand that....I used the 6S exclusively for several years after I got that. I got rid of everything else I had at the time b/c they were not useful to me once I had that. Now I have the Game Changer 84 and love it and will soon have the Lupo 95. I would love to own an adjustable too though b/c I think it will be cool to own. Perhaps I should just get a Vintage Gillette Adjustable and then I won't feel bad at the times I am not using it. I don't want tons of razors lol

The Rex Ambassador is my go to razor and I rarely shave with anything else after I got it.
I find the Astra greens give me a perfect shave every time, but for me it shaves well with just about every blade I have tried. Different blades require some adjustment for my liking though: I turn down on Feathers and turn up with Derby.
As for changing blades and keeping them lined up, my method is simple: I hold the razor upside down.
It works like a charm.
