I feel so bad about how unhappy her acting career made her. No wonder she doesn’t want to do it. It hurt her in so many ways. It’s sad not to see her on the show again but I’d feel bad if she was unhappy doing it again
That’s true but it’s under new direction this has nothing to do with dan schneider so it could be a much better experience for her nonetheless she deserves to be happy and if that means not going on the show than i’m happy for her
@@alexbolt5 she wasn’t just speaking about iCarly. she was speaking about her acting career in general (having to be the bread winner, coming from a dysfunctional religious family, watching her mom struggle with breast cancer and knowing it was her mom dream for her to act to her mom death, to struggling with alcoholism) although i am sure iCarly is where most of her disdain towards acting stems from the most (if you know you know). even if Dan isn’t producing the show anymore, he’s always going to be attached to the show and Jenette has said she didn’t enjoy playing Sam, especially having to eat the food Sam ate due to her eating disorder (anorexia) that later turned to bulimia. this show, whether Dan is producing it or not, can be a big trigger for her as she would have to play a character that gave her bulimia and possibly relapse.

@@dwcallum most of her disdain towards acting comes from iCarly but she talked about her acting experience as a whole and why she quit. i was listing those reasons. all that trauma she’s endured while being an actress, it all plays a factor into why she doesn’t want to do acting again let alone play a character that caused her abuse and an ED. don’t know how you misunderstood my comment. also she said she was embarrassed of her past roles, key word; roles, plural, so more than just iCarly. “i felt so unfulfilled by the roles i played and by 15 i was already embarrassed.” she was already unfulfilled but became embarrassed at 15.

The fact that she was forced to be a breadwinner for her family from the age of 6 doesn’t sit well with me at all.
Her mom also forced her to starve herself so she wouldn’t get fat. I feel rlly bad for her, she doesn’t have to do any of this if she doesn’t want to.

I'm honestly tired of people not addressing what Dan Schneider did to her and so many of the female actresses he worked with. Stop sugar coating Hollywood and start calling out these monsters instead. Clevver has a relatively strong following and should be using that to bring awareness to this disgusting issue.
I'm tired of people addressing only Schneider. The guy has the cleanest track record in all of Hollywood history with kids growing up to be stable. Disney has the worst, yet everyone protects them. If anything should be called out it is Disney.

I respect her for not wanting to be apart of the reboot, I'd rather her take care of herself and have self respect for herself instead of being pressured to do something she doesn't want to do. It was her choice, even though fans are disappointed and think it won't be the same, can you at least respect her for finally knowing the reason why? Because I do and I think her responding to the icarly reboot about not doing the show is what makes her awesome, some people might see it as selfish, but from what I see she isn't a selfish person. This is why most viewers sees the actors as only their characters instead of them as a person bc Sam wasn't described as nice, however, Jeannette actually is. It's hard already for her to act from a child to an adult about growing up on tv and having to do that for financial reasons - a reason that we never knew until now. I didn't know that. It got to me hard that about her mom's death when she was still acting. 😭. I just want her to be a happy and healthy person, don't you??? Come on please give her a break

You left out the most important part about her eating disorder. Sam is literally the best, most entertaining character. It’s very sad, makes me not want to watch all that much.

I agree. She was my favorite. And the other main reason why I wanted Carly to return from Italy, was that Carly and Sam will reunite... But when that could happen Jennette McCurdy didn't wanted to join the cast again, so it finally didn't happen. (I really understand the reason and I respect her, but I was so dissapointed) :(
And finally this is the main reason why I didn't watch this revival and why I also think it was better that they finally just cancelled it. Sam can't be replaced. :(

Sam and Spencer were the only reasons why I watched iCarly. I’m sorry that Jeanette had a terrible childhood. I’m glad she got the help she deserves and is doing what makes her happy.

I knew Jennette was doing a tough and tomboy character, so it would be quite difficult to notice her suffering, but I subconsciously noticed that the spark in her eyes vanished at the last two seasons of the show.
She revealed a long time ago she quit acting. I listened to this whole podcast last week and she does not mention the icarly reboot. People knew the reason long before this podcast and knew she quit acting. This is not really news on the reboot specifically

Its messed up how she was forced to act at a young age. It caused her PTSD. But when she talks about acting and icarly.....she is kind of negative about it. Besides what she went through she said how dumb her lines were and how dumb the show was. She is too hard on her self. She should at least appreciate the fact that it was for kids and it made kids laugh. And without acting, her road would be harder to get her career which is writing and directing. And blessed for the money that helped her life. I wish she can at least look at the positives. Maybe she does but when I heard her on a podcast it didnt come across that she was thankful for the positives.

I mean, just because it was positive for most at the time icarly was first airing, we don't really know what goes on in the personal lives of actors/actresses. it's uncalled for to say she should "at least appreciate the fact that it was for the kids." because she was a kid too, and wanted a normal life as a kid but was forced to act instead. do your research before making assumptions, because her decision to not return to the show was HER decision for HERSELF.
@Alyssa Willie yes that's true but on the podcast when she was asked about her positive moments acting, she was hard on herself by how she regretted the role becuase it was stupid and dumb lines (this was asked soley on her acting and not how she was treated or personal issues) Even though she thought it made her look like a bad actress, it was great and believable for kids. She really should give herself props for that.
I 100% agree. Check your privilege. I don’t think I have ever heard someone say they were ashamed and embarrassed for making over 5 million. Mental health is serious, but she also has the privilege to afford the upmost care. Everything is perspective.
She doesn’t have to be thankful for something that caused her abuse and trauma up til this day, she has bad memories from it and that’s why she looks at the experience as a whole negatively. And honestly she has a right to as well, she didn’t ask for a job that young, and I’m positive she would have rather been struggling or have a jot so well paid job rather than go through that again, personally, as she really seemed to hate, but I don’t know.

It’s sad to hear that she’s been unsatisfied with her acting career and it’s perfectly ok to feel that way. I rlly don’t think she should feel embarrassed though. It’s rlly sad to hear that she feels that way. But in the very least, she could say that a lot of ppl still love her for the work she did in the past, and I feel like that should help ease the overwhelming feeling of embarrassment. Good for her. Why would she even want to come back they literally made her play such an aggressive and angry person for 6 seasons, as well as all the trauma she had to deal with from Dan Schneider. Frankly I’m shocked this reboot is even happening

Everybody know that ''Schneiderverse'' had several moments of adult humor inserted into teen comedy. Cartoons also have this.
Jeanette definitely doesn’t have anything to be embarrassed about. Even if it wasn’t her passion, she worked hard and made millions of kids HAPPY! Her roles stood out as she was a fantastic actress. Nothing cheesy about her part. Happy she is clearing her mind, though.
It's really sad the fact that she wouldn't be joining the reboot but she is doing it for all the good reasons, so it's kind of bittersweet. Very good she's in charge of her life, that's how it always should be.

I think that she has given us so much love through her pain. She deserves this time off. I’m very much like her, and her character Sam. I was very young when iCarly came out, however my brother watched a lot of Nickelodeon and Disney XD at the time, meanwhile I watched Strawberry Shortcake. Now I like to watch all the old shows. I think around the time of Jessie is when sitcoms kinda went down hill. We were listing our favorite old sitcoms like good luck Charlie, Zack and Cody, shows like that. He mentioned iCarly and said it was a great show when it was on, so I looked into it. 3 days ago he told me that there was a new iCarly coming out, so I looked it up since he always tries to fool me with stuff like that. Turns out it was true and I told him it would be out in a week. I’m very excited to see how the iCarly characters handle an adult life now with more freedom, but Jennette with certainly be missed by many.

Now I kinda understand the feud between her and Ariana Grande. Imagine growing up poor, hating acting but it's the only way for your family to survive, having an embarrassing character, literally in contract with nickelodeon for LONGER, and then getting paid less to someone who's new and grew up rich. Damn nickelodeon really didn't treat her right.
Thank you guys for actually doing decent coverage of this and the trauma she went through. So many news outlets are quick to turn things around and leave out important details just for views at the expense of Jennette's mental health.

I’m glad Jeanette is speaking out how she felt about her acting career she needed to get it out there so others can come forward on how they felt their treatment was during their acting career. I really enjoyed her in the Netflix miniseries between I thought she did amazing job on that series she was my favorite on the series she really has acting chops I would like to see come back to acting but only when she’s ready to and likes the acting gigs of her choice also feeling comfortable with the people she’s working with. Jeanette we the fans love you and support your decisions for yourself will be here waiting only when you were ready to girly

I just want to say that her character Sam is a strong feminist. Sam was badass and she made me feel badass watching her on iCarly. I wish Jeanette can hear how much her character means to us who watched the show. She doesn't need to be embarrassed about it cuz she made us feel strong and fearless.

On one hand, I'm glad she's being true to herself and not cashing out for the sake of it. On the other, it saddens me that she's embarrassed by a role that brought so many people joy. I get happy when I see aging actors relish their old roles from their youth, like Jason David Frank with Power Rangers or the guys in Cobra Kai with Karate Kid.
Any update on this? She's listed on at least one episode for the revival; according to IMDB, she is in episode 3.

The lack of enthusiasm to start acting in the first place explains everything. You should do something bc you WANT to, not bc your family depends on the income. That can be a lot of pressure especially for a kid. Also, with the passing of her mom, I can understand why she wants to step away. Also, we all know about the serious allegations against Dan Schneider, who is the producer for most Nickelodeon shows. We should understand her point of view & respect her choices. If anyone wishes to support her other projects (like the podcast) we can do that instead. I wish her all the best, hopefully she finds her happiness.

We can all agree that iCarly was an amazing show. I can understand that Jennette McCurdy doesn't want to be on the shows reboot. Am I excited to see this show return, my answer is: sure. While I do sometimes think the show's series finale was perfect, what's the harm in trying to bring back something that was really popular?
Jordan Peterson's "Self-Authoring" Program has a lot to do with why Jeanette understands her past, present and future so clearly. Jeanette was interviewed recently by Peterson's daughter. In it, Jeanette said that she has gone through the Self-Authoring program various times because it's helped her immensely with understanding her path in life. So I guess we can blame Jordan Peterson for ruining the iCarly reboot :P

I never knew this about Jennette-- I'm so sorry to hear all that she’s been through. I would just want her to know that us viewers only have appreciation for her work on iCarly, as the show gave us so many childhood memories (it made me happy at 7, and it still makes me happy at 20). I fully respect her decision to not join the reboot and focus on self-care, however. (And for the record, she is an ethereal beauty!) ❤️

Honestly, she was more fun to watch than the rest of the crew of iCarly and she always made me laugh.
She been through a lot and I’m glad she’s making the right decision for herself. Also just realized she’s in the Netflix series “between” !! Such an amazing show

Sam got her continuation in Sam & Cat so it will be easy for them to just say she lives in LA. The character will be just fine and will still exist, the most important thing is what Jenette wants for herself, not what fans want
Miranda & Nathan shouldn’t have agreed to do this. Cause they’re messing up iCarly but also Sam isn’t even gonna be in it. Which I completely support Jennette on this. So why even agree to do it...

It's so interesting the her story reminds me of the webtoon No Longer a Heroin, at least the part where she hates acting even though she's good at it, and that it was her mother who got her into acting, and that when her mother died she longer saw a reason to continue acting... Almost like she was the inspiration.
Good for her. I'm so glad she's taking care of herself and doing what she needs to do for her own happiness
Im not going to lie I'd love to see Jennette return as Sam but I wouldn't want to push her, especially because of her history in acting.

I feel like the backlash from fans would have been horrid if they'd recast the role. Best to work with what they have.
This makes me so sad. Whenever I watch Icarly I always look at Jennette and think about how unhappy she was. She sacrificed her childhood for ours :(. It's also weird in interviews back then the Icarly cast always said how happy they were and how fun the show was. This just breaks my heart. I hope Jennettes happier now :).
