Another interesting note, the ys1 ls 5th gear is a bit shorter than the 94-01 ls 5th gear.
Yup and actually a 93 ls gear set and final drive make it a great option for boost, same for a 94-01 ls with a 4.40 final drive. Also I'm pretty sure and will know I a week or 2 when the synchros and seals ect show up but I think you can swap bellhousings as I have a 96 type r trans as well as a b17 trans which I have a b20vtec in a da that has a stock ys1 ls trans I can't wait
Love my J1 cable trans just feels so engaging and nostalgic,and still smooth as butter!I use Pennzoil synchro mesh in mine,want to put a LS 5th gear in mine in the future👍🏾

So far in boosted applications b16 gear set on a ls final drive and main shaft is the best for 400 500hp or less as it's in-between a gsr and a ls and a 93gsr or 96-97 type r are the best gear sets for well built na setups it's been well tested in my area of CT

I Frankensteined the trans that's in my 94 EJ2. Had a horrible 2nd gear grind that affected my 60 ft times, so I pulled my (unknown at the time) trans apart and saw that i have a quaife lsd and saw that the 1 to 2 syncros was worn down to nubs. Wanted carbon syncros but couldn't afford them so I traded for a mint GSR trans. I tried swapping the final drives and noticed the GSR had a "widemouth" final drive gear. So I had to completely disassemble the gear shafts and reinstall the GSR gears on to the other main shaft to keep the quaife LSD. I did find out the final drive gear is a 4.266 compared to the 4.4 that was in the GSR. Being behind a 350 hp boost engine at 70 it runs about 3200 rpms and still has the gear to pull through 5th uphill without downshifting.

This helped. I have a ctr trans and i fall out of vtec on my b16. I think I have a ls/GSR second in it. it falls out for a few hundred rpm
Are you sure it is a CTR B16B trans? The b16b trans was built for NA track use. I would double check the gears and final drive if you ever decide to take it apart. Sounds like someone pulled the wool over your eyes and sold you a trans that isn't what they said. Hope not, hope if anything the 2nd gear was replaced with the wrong one, which throws the rpms upon gear change off like you are experiencing.
@@jamesmason4382 I agree that it’s most likely not a b16b trans and more so a LS or GSR.
I haven’t been able to find any videos of an LS trans on a b16 to see how the rpm’s behave.
Once I get the car road worthy I will pull the trans and inspect to see what I really have. It’s just weird that second is the only gear I fall out of vtec

I also have a question because I've bought a new slave cylinder and the arm on the transmission has a bolt that goes through the slave cylinder arm, but the new one is a ball joint type connection

Not sure if you'll see this, but if you do, just looking for some advice.
I have a 99 EM1 VTi (UK spec Si), which supposedly have a 4.26 final drive like some of the S80 and like the S9B box.
I'm looking to sort some issues with my box, and get an LSD in the process.
Can I whack my S4C main shaft and gearset into an S9B? It'll keep my ratios the same, but give me an LSD on the cheap (S9B boxes are typically cheaper because people don't want the longer ratios).
Mine is hydro and doesn't want to shift at 8500 rpm? any leads

@HondaStreet Garage. Question. On the Hydro boxes, are the syncros compatible between the LS boxes (long ratio) and the B16 boxes (short ratio), like a S4C/S80 from an LS or Orthia (unsure if you get Orthia there). I have a project car I have a 'B16 box' curently but it has small wheel so I am getting an LS box (S4C from an Orthia here) which is long gearing, to overcome that. Just trying to work out if it needs parts, if I can get any syncros and springs and sleeves etc, and they will work, or if they are specific... Thanks.
Can I use newer hydro 94-01 LS shift forks in 92-93 LS cable trans? They are different design but look the same, cant find a definite answer anywhere. Thanks

Do any small splines come in hydro? I have a GSR hydro with small spline in my CRX. Need a replacement case to switch my internals into and don’t know which case to get.
I don’t think any did but you can probably swap the shift fork on the case and make it work I’d assume, try to look into it more as I’m not 100%

Hondas are like Legos. I was able to swap ITR gears into a LS hydro! Guide on my channel.
I got a question my second and third grinds but when I lift the shifter up it doesn't grind what would cause it to do that
Likely need new sleeves, synchros, and maybe gears.
I have b16 trans i already change the 3/4 sycro and hub but the shifting is rougth when the car is already use for an 1 hour

I have a YS1 gsr cable trans with lsd that I took out because only when I turn it makes a clunk clunk clunk sound. Not sure what it is. Maybe missing a shim or spacer somewhere??? All gears and reverse work perfectly. Maybe the lsd is just no good? Or maybe it's welded? I haven't opened it because I don't know what to look for. I should have opened both gsr and ls trans together to compare but I wanted to drive so I just threw the ls trans in. Would you be willing to open it up and take a look for me?
Did a burnout in a 1.5 single cam. Then went to throw 2nd gear cuz fuck it.... Car finished with the same wheel clunk you mentioned. My guess just get a Mfactory differential and youll be okay.
Lift the car on one side, in neutral, and try to spin the wheel. It should spin even if it has a lsd. If it doesn't its welded for sure, or in my case fucked lmao.
I ended up getting a mfactory lsd. I had someone put it in for me but car is still not ready. Doing a complete overhaul. 89 si hatch.

You could but you’d have to also put an LS 4th. B16, GSR, ITR use a larger hub and slider for 3/4. You’d also need to swap out the shift fork.
