O.K. 25 years ago I bought a book and read through it and for me it took some time, this guy explains it so quickly and accurately, he did skip the exhaust housing size, but they are easy to swap, one of my cars I went from a 0.86 to a 1.02 A/R and gained a lot top end and lost very little at lower RPM. Current build is a N54. I'm a full time dyno tuner and a mechanic for 37 years and this was a great refresher

Buy a second car, preferably turbo cheap and available. Buy an aftermarket ECU and start from there. Knock detection and Wideband is also required. Now days there is also HP academy and they are quite good as well, buy the lifetime membership, the only problem with online courses is they expect everything goes right and nothing ever does

I just want to share my personal lesson learned from sizing a turbo using this exact method - which resulted in lazy/laggy setup for street driving. I learned that you don’t need peak compressor efficiency at max RPM. It’s actually okay to be tapering off to the choke point at max RPM in a street application, which is what most factory turbocharged cars do. It is better to optimize peak compressor efficiency for the RPM range where you want to make power. With that in mind I would do the calculation at various engine RPM levels and compare the plot - looking for max efficiency at, for example, 5k RPM. It’s a good sanity check to plot the max RPM too, but not the number I’d care the most about.

It's fun to understand how something works.
In school I was taught how to do square roots in the long hand fashion, just so we understood how to do it. It takes like three pieces of paper to do a small calculation. Therefore, you use a calculator or the generation before mine used slide rules.
It was just trying to show you how it works.
If you can't understand it, do you know what you should do?....
Call the company that makes the turbo charger. Tell them exactly what kind of an application you have, and they have somebody there that understands, and they will give you the best recommendation.
It's not like he's asking you to build your own turbocharger, it was just trying to give you an idea how they work.
The companies that make these products know exactly what works with what from experience.
Or look up videos of Richard holdener, that guy runs more dyno pulls than anybody I've ever seen. I think he has cam autism lol. He runs every single cam and head combination possible.
And he is a wealth of knowledge. He might actually have a video for what you're looking for already. Just cuz he does so much data

Bro thank you so much. For the last idk how long i have been racking my brain thinking "how is it possible for people to spit flames out of their down pipe. This just showed me that after 5ish years of learning about cars and engine and physics of everything, I had either not learned or had forgotten basic turbo anatomy. I feel dumb😅
