Current build is a N54. I'm a full time dyno tuner and a mechanic for 37 years and this was a great refresher

I just want to share my personal lesson learned from sizing a turbo using this exact method - which resulted in lazy/laggy setup for street driving. I learned that you don’t need peak compressor efficiency at max RPM. It’s actually okay to be tapering off to the choke point at max RPM in a street application, which is what most factory turbocharged cars do. It is better to optimize peak compressor efficiency for the RPM range where you want to make power. With that in mind I would do the calculation at various engine RPM levels and compare the plot - looking for max efficiency at, for example, 5k RPM. It’s a good sanity check to plot the max RPM too, but not the number I’d care the most about.
I tell people that the basic answer to the right size turbo is the smallest turbo that meant you power needs. Be realistic about your engine's power. Beyond that it start getting mathy.

Bro thank you so much. For the last idk how long i have been racking my brain thinking "how is it possible for people to spit flames out of their down pipe. This just showed me that after 5ish years of learning about cars and engine and physics of everything, I had either not learned or had forgotten basic turbo anatomy. I feel dumb😅
By far the most helpful explanation so far. How would the math here change for a twin turbo setup?
No BS straight to the point. No wasting time. but aimed at the avid enthusiast with a little more than average experience.
