As a Cyclist you are considered a vehicle while riding your bike, and need to follow the rules of the road
Preach!
The light was green though for the cyclist and red for the guy trying to turn? Not trying to say he's not in the wrong, but the truck started going while the intersection wasn't clear
I mean he broke more than that rules. No helmet to start with, no kidding he is not riding in neighbourhood. Ear bug to add on, that is already distraction.
As a cyclist...
- if you're on the ROAD you are a vehicle.
- if you are on the CROSSWALK, you can be considered a pedestrian
@@ScaR-x-FacE Doesn't matter, he rode into the crossWALK. Not a pedestrian. He should have kept riding on the road.
1:51 Remember folks, when you get into a crash and you are at least mostly certain it wasn't your fault, don't tell the other driver about the dash cam. Let them lie to the police.
It appears that the car on the right may have ran the red light, if you pause the video at 5:16. It's not even in the intersection when the light changed to red.
Yes, i agree, the car on the right is clearly at fault
I stopped it at the same time and to me it looks like he's a couple feet past the crosswalk but he definitely should have stopped! Thanks for watching
You just need to be over the crosswalk, not in the intersection. Looks very close to .e
One could argue that the driver on the right was over the stop line but it doesn't mean s/he wouldn't be at fault. It's still an infarction. I have seen people get pulled over for doing the same thing. Yellow means be prepare to slow down, not accelerate & try to beat the light.
@@shrimpfriedrice494 Cars need to stop, if they can safely do so, as soon as the light goes yellow. The black car wasn't going that fast and had plenty of time to stop before the light went red.
5:00 That's a difficult call, depends on what BC traffic rules state. Here in NS that would be considered running a red because here the NS traffic rules state when approaching a yellow you must attempt to stop, that the yellow is considered a red light.
Here in bc that would be the car on the rights fault, had a lots of time to stop with the yellow and still proceeded into the intersection on a red
@@downfromtheunderground yup. It was red well before he entered. The first incorrect manuver was the black vehicle running a red light.
The car turning left might as well have been cross traffic. Would you be blamed for getting tboned by someone running a red? Nope.
The car going straight should be stopping, but the cardinal rule of turning at any intersection is: straight traffic has right of way, and you should never assume someone's going to stop. "Should" does not mean they will.
5:10 driver who was going straight through intersection is at fault. They entered the intersection about 5 seconds after the light turned yellow. The driver turning left started their turn over the meridian as the light turned red. Car going straight should have yielded to the yellow, they had more than enough time to come to a stop safely. (Two cars beside him came to a stop for the yellow, they were both infront of him before they started braking.
5:15 car going straight ran the red light, 100% at fault
If the light is YELLOW and you have time to come to a stop then that is what you should do. The black car had plenty of time to stop unless the car's driver was driving faster than the posted speed
When one stops for a pedestrian at an intersection it is polite to wait for the pedestrian to finish crossing the roadway
My daughter was in an accident driving through an intersection and a lady turned left in front of her. The police officer who attended the scene said that even if my daughter was running a red light the onus is on the turning car to make sure that she’s able to complete her turn safely. Full blame to the vehicle making the left turn.
In BC, once the light turns red, straight traffic entering the intersection has zero right of way. The turning car had legal possession of the intersection. ICBC will find turning car blameless. The cop who told you that is wrong.
@ 2:50 My guess, those roads are well known for having major dips from sinking ground under the roads. Good chance that guy was just driving around the dip as he may of noticed it too late and took the chance to quickly drive around it.
Also could be the dash cam driver's headlight being too bright or high up compared to the little sedan. The light might have blinded him for a sec.
If one is riding a bicycle and is crossing on a marked crosswalk one is supposed to WALK the bike through the crosswalk
5:16 yeah no the black car is at fault. He wasn't in the intersection when the light went red.
I concur doctor
@@madpeddler8263 wont matter, these types of accidents are always split insurance. Driver tuning left didnt turn left when it was safe to do so. I agree about the other car also should not have entered the intersection. ICBC loves split faults because higher premium on 2 drivers now.
Um, they're both black. But the turning car was 'in the intersection', barely, as they waited to turn.. Generally speaking, if you've at least got your front tires beyond the inner crosswalk line, you're in the intersection, from a legal point of view - so at that point, you're no longer controlled by the traffic light.
That said, the driver's a fool. He should have, and easily could have, move at least a couple of car lengths into the intersection, while waiting to turn! It's a big intersection, at least one more vehicle could have waited in it behind him, for the chance to turn.
Ain't no doubt though, the vehicle going straight ran his red light and caused this collision.
Playing with that cube is distracting driving, he can get pulled over for that.
the Ministry of Transport had a license exchange system setup and still has and that's the reason why. no one knows how to drive so they come here thinking that they can drive in our country
Just got the VIOFO A139 Pro 3 channel . Can't wait to send you some of top quality Vancouver Clownery.
Looking forward to it but stay safe out there!
4:36 I'm sorry, but that's entirely on the truck. It's a no-brainer. Even if he did have his left turn signal on (which would be impossible to distinguish from all the other flashing lights anyway) you can't do a u-turn just because you have your signal on! You must be certain the road is clear before you do so!
our city is full of crazy drivers these years. so dangerous
4:25 - if the maintenance vehicle needs to make a U-turn, then the onus is on him to signal his intent and may only proceed when it is safe to do so.
5:09 - many of these scenarios end up in court and the outcome is usually if you are making a left turn you must make sure all oncoming vehicles have stopped before proceeding. There are of course, always exceptions and various factors are taken into account.
6:40 - if the time stamp on the dash cam is correct, and given the shadows of the vehicles, the black pick up is also using a bus only lane.
5:20 The car’s *rear* wheels did NOT cross the line before the lights turned red. Therefore, it ran the red light.
can you get some footage of left lane drivers who "shadow drive" the right lane car instead of passing? This happens on highway 91 every day and causes a lot of unnecessary congestion. Keep Right Except to Pass!!!!
holy shit that tesla got destroyed
by a fence
Gotta talk to Raymond about his Cam quality at 4:50. Damn that is crisp.
5:15... I've said it before and I'll say it again... usually it's the left turner that's at fault. This came from a Burnaby police officer that told me. Even if the light is red, the turning car needs to yield.
Ya so I've heard but I wonder if that ICBC policy could be over ruled if there was dashcam evidence
@@vancouversworstdrivers well what evidence would be brought forth that could prove otherwise. Again, the officer told me that even if the light is red... Which it appeared to be in the video... You still need to yield to the law breaker for everyone's safety.
0:46 Pedestrians should be aware that most of their fatalities in BC occur in marked crosswalks! Particularly on multi lane streets. Heads up, everybody!
It is ver poor design from the beginning. The crosswalk were just painted line with no road changes leading up to it. Where pedestrian wait is quite often in the blindspot of the A Beam too. No extra lighting center out the area over the rest of the road, so no contrast to alert driver either.
In Vancouver the saying "If you don't like my driving, then get off the sidewalk"...is apt!!
Driving in Richmond is a nightmare!!
@@remlatzargonix1329try surrey, it’s even worse
No fault insurance now, so none of this matters. Might as well hit as many people as you can. And good luck to you if you get in an accident.
That only applies to medical coverage....fault is still assigned in a crash and your premiums go up.
0:53. I would say they are both liable if they hit. There’s lights beside the crosswalk sign. The reason for that light to be there is for nights when it’s too dark for drivers to see. She didn’t turn it on.
Curtis IS at fault here! He should have remembered to turn off his cloaking device.
tesla drivers literally have a animated gps how tf are people so bad at driving
I love your videos. I am laughing so hard. I wish your videos were longer, but, I accept that the video footage may be limited.
50-50 is correct because the one car entered the intersection after the light turned red, but the car turning left still can't turn until it's safe. Quote from the Learn to Drive Smart Manual for BC "Sometimes drivers panic if they are in an intersection waiting to make a left turn and the light turns yellow. In this situation, remember that you are legally allowed to complete your turn. But watch carefully for other vehicles, especially oncoming drivers trying to beat the red light."
People so often talk about spaces and gaps in terms of time, but I think it's also seriously. important to stress to new drivers the significance of time vs speed.
You can think you 'have a gap', but if the person isn't doing the speed limit, you may not have time. A lot of the time, I see most people don't know how to safely complete their turn because they're misjudging the gap they have by ignoring the actual speed of the incoming vehicle.
But the driver RAN the red. He didnt come close to beating it. He is 100% at fault in my book. Driver in the intersection should have been allowed to complete their turn because the light was red. Not his fault, other driver should be expected to stop, he had time.
@@TangoDelta8111 It doesn't matter, the law is clear on the fact that the left turner can only turn when it's safe to do so, and must always be the one who yields. This isn't about who's morally at fault, it's about who's legally at fault. Your argument is the only reason ICBC will find it 50/50. Because he ran the red light he shares fault, however it is always fully on the left turner to watch out for this very situation. Just because you have the right of way, doesn't mean you can just blindly proceed and cause an accident.
@@TangoDelta8111 I wasn't saying who would/would not be at fault by law. I'm strictly talking about the importance of preventing accidents via hazard recognition and spacial awareness, on top of the normal stuff, like road rules and right of way. Part of driving defensively is recognizing that some people are fucking idiots, and always being prepared to avoid someone who is breaking said road rules, purposely or otherwise.
I do wonder if that is simply to determine who's wrong without dashcam footage, however if this video was submitted I wonder if it would change things. Thanks for watching
6:01 - based on the fact that they were speeding up on a red light, probably golf driver was trying to overtake the car to make the left turn before it turns red (You can see that the left turn signal is on), but didn't have enough torque to make it happen. I don't think even the Plaid could have made it.
First, I would like to say hello from the east coast in nova scotia and I would like to say your videos are some of the best I've seen recently I think you have inspired me to get a dashcam of my own so I like to say thank you and keep up the good work.
Thanks for watching! I have a promo code to Blackboxmycar in the description if you're looking for a dashcam... I prefer the VIOFO brand personally. Hope that helps
Halifax has got some crazy drivers too 🤪 I used to live there haha
@@11TruthAssassin Yeah I know when I drive into Halifax it's clear when I'm in Halifax the drivers get very interesting let me tell you.
The videos are all slowly getting better quality
Head gasket went on that accord in the second clip
The red light camera - instant karma. Getting tired of seeing red light runners
6:46 what lane is the black truck in?
00:35 guy was just haulin' on his vape.
At 2:51, was most likely a distracted driver.
cyclist getting mad is dumb, he carved into the crosswalk from the middle of nowhere. Either bike in traffic, or use the sidewalk which is illegal but IDC. Just dont go anywhere you please and get mad cos a driver saw you 1 second too late.
1:30 - Cyclist did two completely dumb things: 1.) No hand signal to indicate a turn, and 2.) turned onto the wrong side of the road. Cyclist is completely at fault here. What a numpty.
3:58 - I saw the truck in the ditch on my drive home with like a half dozen cops surveying the scene. I was wondering what happened there!
5:25 - Black car ran the red light.
Roads are for vehicles not spandex terds on kiddy bikes.
"It works as a good smokescreen" yeah if you were in a fucking club
0:40 either the head gasket is broken or the turbo is gone
I saw a car going the wrong way in the entrance to go in Stanley Park lmao
they caught two guys getting paid to give licenses to people
We should have drivers watch your channel as part of the course. Much easier to understand why they tell you to drive in a certain way when you show them what happens when you don't.
I think the last clip that the person gunned it but had worn down tires, and doing it in the rain.
At 5:17 the black car entered the intersection after the the light turned red.
feels like we're just getting shittier drivers by the year regardless of where we are.
4:03 This one's interesting. There are 140 red light cameras in BC, and 35 of them have their speed camera activated also. This sure looks like one of them. So the camera does a double flash picture of the car's approach (to verify speed) and then a double flash picture of the same car's pass through the red light intersection. Double whammy for driving like a moron ...
Unfortunately, so long as the car owner (not the driver, necessarily) has lots of money, no driver penalty points will be issued against the driver's license. Even if they approached the light at three times the speed limit, the cops don't get involved and ICBC don't get involved because this whole cash-incentivized program is run by RoadSafeBC.
5:08 is not 50/50. car going straight decidedly sped up when the rest of traffic around them was stopping, in slow moving traffic. car turning left is already in the intersection
Good start to 2023
5:08 The black car going straight should have stopped for the yellow light. The car was barely in the crosswalk when the light went red. But, on the other hand, the other car should have made sure the car going straight was stopping. Two poor decisions. But, I still put more of the blame on the car going straight because if it didn't decide to run the red, the accident wouldn't have happened.
2:28 they should send that to waambaam Teslacam
Lichmond!!!!
That was a good one
Unfortunately for the majority of cyclists, there is within our group who have the attitude that as they are on a bike, not driving a vehicle, not contributing to the demise of the planet, that they are above the traffic laws and should be accorded special consideration that the rest of the world needs to get out of their way.
if you're turning left and the light turns yellow you have the entire intersection to move in the direction you need to go that is the rule
Bicyclist is at fault. He was riding in traffic and made a HIGHLY illegal turn across traffic. Easiest way to see it: imagine if the bike was a small car.
He should have gotten off his bike and crossed at the crosswalk by walking.
5:25 always the turning driver is at fault he has to yield
1:35 well the lights are red so the cammer shouldn't even have moved but the cyclist was driving on the wrong side of the road
@6:40 I'm guessing this person is like alot of people nowadays having a hardon for the "zipper merge" just assuming they have the right of way after one car...
Ya very true didn't think about it like that. They completely ignore the yield sign lol
@@vancouversworstdrivers yep, I have that problem all the time over here in Victoria, mckenzie to hwy1, 2 merging lanes to 2 travel lanes on the hwy. I move over to the hwy travel asap, yet soo many people hang in the merge lanes until the last minute and just come over, even when I've been literally right beside them.
I was trained to move into the travel lane as soon as safe to do so
And that's not a big town tbh. And not everyone has a dashcam in his car. And not everyone has time to post situations like this. Even from that little % of posted videos, the amount of close calls is stunning. We have plans to move to Vancouver and your videos are scary :D
And I only post 10% of the videos I get lol thanks for watching
The City of Vancouver is only 650,000 people but the Greater Vancouver area is 2.4 million. Its the 3rd largest "city" in Canada.

It's not based on who hasn't the craziest footage only who get their footage featured! Thanks for watching
@5:46 It is actually illegal to drive thru a gas station like that. FYI
I miss Vancouver so much. Watching these horrible drivers makes me feel nostalgic ♥️♥️♥️
Lmao wya rn?
4:40 the turning truck is at fault of course he is turning left from the right lane with no signal and without looking for traffic in the left lane.
At 1:39. The bicycle should have expected the car to go as the car had priority over the bicycle at that instant in time. I hate it when bicycles do dumbass stuff as I only ride bicycles so such behaviour gives all persons on bicycles a bad rap.
?
@@Bigbossperson At time stamp 1:39 the person on the bicycle blocked a car that had the right of way. As it appears in the video unless there are extenuating circumstances that cannot be deduced from the video, he was just being an asshole. There are already enough assholes on the road we could use less. As I've said I only ride bicycles as I do not own a car so this just gives persons on bicycles a bad rap.

Great commentary & awesome video to start 2023. I really look forward to these videos lol
The service truck would be at fault for not checking his mirrors before pulling the u-turn
1:29 I'd say anon started out at fault but then the biker stopped and turned that into much more of a problem than it should've been. I've been car jumpscared before, countless times on my bike, countless times on foot and a couple times when I was driving, and I never stopped to give the driver a piece of my mind
The cyclist is at fault because they are riding in a crosswalk. They are required to dismount and walk their bike through a crosswalk. Also the pedestrian hand signal was up, stating that pedestrian traffic may not proceed.
@@tall_dude1233 "the cyclist is required to" don't care, didn't ask, don't want to hear it. biker going straight, anon turning, anon got a red, straight traffic has priority not because the law says so but because physics agrees with that sentiment
I personally disagree, they aren't supposed to be riding in the crosswalk plus he's turning to go against traffic which as far as I know is also illegal. Thanks for watching
@@vancouversworstdrivers I didn't notice him going against traffic so, honestly, that changes a lot. I guess that explains what type of road user he is. but hey, I'd rather have a complete tool like that riding a bike than driving a car

Cyclists cannot be considered motor vehicles; way too small, not enough power.
even the fittest cyclists in the world can only keep up with urban traffic for short periods at a time.
