Well, this is IT! This is the holy grail of studios for me. I've been a Butch fan forever and have only seen glimpses of his new(ish) space in Nashville. Andrew, you did a fantastic job as always with this one! You should start a new series with Butch, just talking about recording and producing. That would be amazing, he's a national treasure!
Wow... this is by far my favorite studio you've done so far. The space is amazing, and it's all about making music. Whatever works indeed! Thanks for this one. Super inspiring!
This truly IS the most epic home studio! Nothing about it says home studio by the way,- just a beautiful and epic studio,- the amount of wood, the rustic converted barn look of the rooms, the open space in which to breathe, the hybrid setup including the old school analog console, even the loft would make a fantastic studio B - everything just reeks of a man living the dream. Lucky guy.
What an inspiring place to work at. So many stories attached to all that accumulated gear, there’s a big chunk of recent music history present there. The overall vibe that comes across is light and down-to-earth, and that is because Butch himself is easy going and down-to-earth, a guy you can dig instantly. Thanks for sharing, Andrew! Thanks for the tour, Butch! You built and developed a dream place based on your engineering know-how and work experience!
These crazy guys who actually have a story to tell (like also that animation series writer in a golf cart a couple of weeks ago) are SO FUN TO WATCH, I enjoy these a lot more than some tech nerds in their crystal palaces. Please do more of them.
I am recently minted 61 year old and started to learn to play the guitar. This UA-cam channel is awesome and inspirational, thank you. I am also surprised that Nashville is very big music industry, makes me want to visit.
...What an awesome space... 7:52... Dating my self - but I bought the 1st Kiss Alive LP when It came out!... In fact Andrew... My 1st "Real" Drum set, around that time - was the exact same kit that Peter Criss is playing on the cover of that LP... Pearl Fiberglass, All concert toms (1 headed), Silver Satin... Same Kit - Same Color - Same amount and sizes of drums.... I was soooo cool in High School with that drum kit! (Traded them in for a custom Gretsch Kit around 1979, after hauling that kit around to many gigs... Then I was the coolest drummer at Berklee!!)...
This wins. It just don't get any cooler than this. Butch is a long time favorite of mine. I could only dream to work with him & record something in that studio! Good job, Andrew!
I love how open the floor plan is. He is amazing...the way he talks about his approach to making music is great. API -- when I get the money that console will be mine. I use the plugins now (along with SSL and Neve) but I want that API sound. Thanks Andrew.
@butchwalker is the man. He's literally a virtuoso guitarist, a damn good pianist, singer and songwriter. In short, he's a beast. He's been a hero of mine for a long time. Still a Marvelous 3 fan, even dig some Fla Fla Floyds too.
YA KNOW, I CAN TELL HES THE GUY YOU WANT TO RECORD WITH, COOL GUY, SAW ALOT OF THESE SHOWS WITH HIM RECENTLY...I DONT EVEN KNOW HIM, OR MUSIC TILL THE LAST COUPLE MONTHS..AND I CAUGHT MYSELF SITTING HERE, ROOTING FOR HIM...LIKE, GOOD FOR YOU BUTCH, BC YOU CAN TELL HE LOVES HIS LIFE AND CAREER, SO I SAY GOOD FOR HIM, KEEP ROCKIN BUTCH, ILL BE THERE RECORDING SOON, JUST THROWING IT OUT THERE, GOD BLESS!
Listening to Glenn right now and love it. What a fun concept album. The songs and production are so dialed in. And he REALLLLLLYYYYY channeled Billy Joel on those vocals. LOVE IT.
Hey Andrew did you send me a notification about an ongoing draw .. this has happened to me before I win a prize then I’m asked to pay a big shipping fee I think someone has hacked into my page … can you let me know cheers DUDE
Crazy how I ended up here from watching a how-to video on a mobile interface by clicking the next recommended video and then the next, lol. Butch Walker is one of my heroes, he seems like a man with a great life story to tell, and still so humble and chill. I wish I could do what he does. I've been a fan of his music for 15+ years, I love this so much! I don't know anything about music production, and probably never will, but I'm going to bookmark this for future reference anyway lol
I just moved to Nashville and am looking for a barn to put my studio - this is definitely the most Epic Studio for the likes of me! What a cool and humble dude who knows his gear and his vibe better than most other pros. Thanks for the vid you guys.
I'm a huge BW fan. I appreciate very much that you did this tour with him. He's one of those geniuses that people might say they've not heard of him without realizing they've heard him a thousand times. He's the genius behind other artists success. In my opinion his best work is his own.
Saw this video as I was interested in what Tim Pierce used in his recording studio, this was the following clip and it kept me interested enough to watch it. Checked out Butch Walker's music after this and... I like it!
GREAT interview! Love your studio dude. Like yourself I'm a vibe man, and have done some of my best work in the most unlikely of places: florida rooms, offices, Sunday school rooms, you name it. Vibe to me is everything because atmosphere contributes to mood -- which affects feel. To me that's most important. There's nothing worse than being inundated with craploads of gear in a dead environment. Sound needs to breathe. I run most everything through my 4 UA 1176's into an analog Studiomaster console onto DAW. (I am amazed at how fat the English Studiomaster sounds! Even without using any EQ!) I will mix my stems at a mothership studio to fine tune everything. But like yourself, I like to keep it simple so I can spend more time on the musical side of things. That's the real joy of it, to me. Thank you gentlemen for an insightful and learning experience.
Great interview...It was great to hear that even though you had some losses, you forged ahead. It taught you and others, that life and things are only around while they are,not when we want them to be. I also loved the fact you said this digital/analog debate is a scam, fake, and just another separatist distraction. I remember people asking me which mic I used for making samples, since I spin records as well, and after guessing all these expensive Mics, I told them, it was one of the mics that came with my Sanyo boom box. I also recall seeing people get upset when I tell that their $5,,555,555 dollar room treatments are bogus, along with their $55,555 interconnect cables..
Never heard of Butch Walker til I watched the Epic Home Studio video while cruising The Tube for inspirational content and I must say THIS VIDEO prompted me to listen to the album! I feel like a kid again in the 1970's the first time I heard Earth Wind & Fire...an unexpected discovery. I'm a fan now! And while it should not matter, I'd like to mention that I'm a hip hop & R&B fan-but i'm all over Glen. Great work! That studio sounds amazing.
It's cool to see his endorsement of LUNA. I'm teetering on the edge of giving up Pro Tools and tempted to switch to LUNA. I don't want to use Ableton or Logic, even though I know they're great and my friends all tell me I'm crazy for not using them. But honestly, I can't stand the UI. I really, really like the look of LUNA, I crave something that looks like actual gear. I am curious if anyone can tell me why so many people hate PT or wanna leave it, like Butch expressed that he does. I've used it for years and actually like it, but the subscription service bums me out. I just lost a week of recording, which was vacation from my day job because Pro Tools wouldn't launch, saying the subscription expired, even though it didn't. So, that's enough of an annoyance to make me take a closer look at LUNA. Anyone have any feedback on any of this?
I recently took a Pro Tools class at an L.A. community college, passed my Avid exams and am now an Avid Certified Pro Tools Specialist. But for years I was averse to Pro Tools because the light-mode UI was ugly to me. Dark mode made me open to it, and now that I know my way around it I'm happy to use it. I've had an issue with Avid's licensing in the past and spent a whole day going through a labyrinth of their support system just getting my purchase validated. It was a hassle but in the end they took care of me. And I can say that they are constantly upgrading their software in good and meaningful ways.
I keep hearing good things about Luna though and UA is a fantastic company so if you feel more inclined then why not give 'em a go. In general however I find it useful to pick a lane and master your tools of choice.
@@alexandereditsvideo I ended up encountering an issue in a Pro Tools session where it just keeps crashing at the exact same spot and I can't figure out why. So, I imported all of the audio files into a new UA Luna session and have really been enjoying working in Luna. I still have a lot of sessions to complete in Pro Tools, so I'm sure I've made the switch. I might just finish that one song in Luna and finish the rest in Pro Tools. But I could see eventually making the switch to Luna for sure.
I study music prod- and I use Ableton - which the workflow works for me, logic which has its advantages, Luna is great because it connects to Uad console so well. Pro tools I’m learning this semester and I’m not going to lie - I don’t like it. I’m starting to get used to it but you need to learn half a million shortcuts or get into the avid dock and the s1- which I don’t want to. The advantages is that most studios use pro tools and they are used in soundtracks due to the synchronization between film and audio. Logic and Ableton both allow you to drag films in and score - Logic and Final Cut Pro work together harmoniously but protools has sync hardware. Thats basically my very humble opinion on it and I’m sure there is more reasons but I find protools especially creating headphone mixes annoying. I think it’s ugly as is Ableton. But Ableton has two great workflows - session and arrangement. Which I’ve used I extensively. And I love how easy it is to edit and zoom in without having to use shortcuts.
This made me cry.... No joke. Not because of my current poor health, again, GODDAMMIT.... But, Jesus Meezus, you guys.... A former Vintage King employee, working EVERYTHING Detroit, Mi. I am weeping tears over the beauty and disgust of Butch, as well as Andrew's successes, in the most loving, caring, and f%6k it ways.
Its great to see and hear these guys talk gear but its even better when they tell personal stories related to their art. What a killer studio though...good lord!
I don't know if anyone has ever told you this but, I really think it would be nice if, at the end of these studio videos, you had a song playing that is recorded in the studio shown..
I'm so jealous. What a wonderful studio. I've put this video it in a playlist called "When I win the Lotto" 🙂I started playing guitar less than 2 years ago. Started writing and recording in my 9ft by 9ft box room in the garage at the beginning of this year. I'm in my 50's and wish I'd found this calling decades ago. My dream is to own a studio like this and collaborate with other musicians instead of sitting in this tiny room on my own. Great album btw, I love it. Thank you.
That's a galaxy away from my Focusrite Scarlett Solo. Thanks Andrew and to Butch for taking the time. And Butch, like Brendan O'Brien, is a fellow Georgian. I'm about 90 minutes from the new studio. I saw Southgang at the Cotton Club back in the day not knowing Butch Walker would become one of the best producers of all time.
thanks for the hang out brother! and thanks for all the love here from my fellow techies and studio nerds. music is LIFE!
honestly, life is music! LOL
you seem cool as hell sir. thanks for showin us some of your world.
Anyone know -- where is this studio?! Unclear from video . Still in California?
Very sweet space, butch.
One of my favorite engineers of all time! Thanks for sharing your studio!
WE HIT 100,000 SUBS! I love all of you.
🤘🤘🤘
Congrats Andrew! Great milestone you've acheived!
Love the channel! RAD!
Great! Congrats from Chile.
Congrats
API console a thing of beauty. I worked there mid-70's . They were at the top of the heap...Great to see them back with a vengeance.
Love this guy's energy! No pretension, just loves talking gear and making music. A+ content.
I was on that KiSS tour in 1977, selling T-shirts, posters and glow-in-the-dark necklaces! small world! 🔥🧨💪🏽🤠👍🏽🧨🔥
How awesome is the “…as Glenn” record is?!? God what a gift… thank you!!!!
24:45 i will now be adopting the phrase "cocaine disco toms" into my everyday lexicon.
I loved his work on August is Falling!
Some of his best stuff to date!
Wow... this is by far my favorite studio you've done so far. The space is amazing, and it's all about making music. Whatever works indeed! Thanks for this one. Super inspiring!
This truly IS the most epic home studio!

Thanks for commenting, Ulf!
I've just "re-discovered" Butch....was a big fan of Marvelous 3. He is such a down to earth guy...I LOVE watching stuff like this.
Thirteen minutes in and I've said wow three times out loud. My dream studio. Thanks Andrew!
Butch is a legend. His place lives up to that standard... Wow... just freakin' WOW !
This looks awesome

I’ve come back here to rewatch this multiple times the last week. It is such a vibe and hits just right.
love the intro on his father antique hunting, that is what makes these places so real and with character
This place is awesome. I LOVE open vibe of this setup... Seems like the perfect environment.
Butch is my HERO. Really really enjoyed this. Andrew I love your vids man, keep it up!
How wonderful ! We worked together on the Floyd's Funk Revival & Marvelous 3 records; a true pleasure !
Chris! Love you!!!
his character and studio is just yes
These crazy guys who actually have a story to tell (like also that animation series writer in a golf cart a couple of weeks ago) are SO FUN TO WATCH, I enjoy these a lot more than some tech nerds in their crystal palaces. Please do more of them.
butch is one of my favorite musician, listen back to his southgang days. he is a shredder! on the guitar
Southgang...wow.. last I checked was nothing on youtube.
open floor plan of the studio is legit
Listening to the Glenn now. I need to sit in that energy spot now.
I am recently minted 61 year old and started to learn to play the guitar. This UA-cam channel is awesome and inspirational, thank you. I am also surprised that Nashville is very big music industry, makes me want to visit.
I was waiting for another tour !! Grabbing my coffee ☕
farrrr out the vibe of this studio is bloody beautiful, such a creative space! 🎶
Butch Walker is the man. Great dude, world-class talent, it doesn’t get much better.
Still keep coming back to watch this one! Definitely my favourite studio tour and Butch Walker seems like such a cool guy.

Love Butch's outlook on music!
That's my man out there. A rebel who has gained knowledge from experiences and doesn't give a damn about cash burning theories...
This wins. It just don't get any cooler than this. Butch is a long time favorite of mine. I could only dream to work with him & record something in that studio! Good job, Andrew!

Awesome space, beautiful philosophy and great vibes - can't wait to listen to the new album - thanks to you both for this!

I have to say the Glenn video is quite good. It captures the heart of the 70's in a non contrived way. Amazing drum sounds.
Listening to Glenn right now and love it. What a fun concept album. The songs and production are so dialed in. And he REALLLLLLYYYYY channeled Billy Joel on those vocals. LOVE IT.
For the love of music. 👍 Great tour & talk, thank you very much! 🎤 ✨ 🌟 🧡 🌟 ✨ 🎧
Thanks Butch your energy is second to none .

The coolest home studio I've ever seen!
Open floor studio! Yeheey! Finally
This is the dream.
Crazy how I ended up here from watching a how-to video on a mobile interface by clicking the next recommended video and then the next, lol. "make America a band again" .. I felt that
Beautiful. All vibe. Barn studios are the best.
cool seeing the Georgia decor with the names of some famous GA music names up there! need something like that for my space
I'm a huge BW fan. I appreciate very much that you did this tour with him. He's one of those geniuses that people might say they've not heard of him without realizing they've heard him a thousand times. He's the genius behind other artists success. In my opinion his best work is his own.
felicidades por tu hijo, excelente regalo, me recuerda la primera guitarra que le regale al mio, gracias por tus videos
I could listen to this guy talk for hours about anything, incredible studio too would love to make records in there!!
Even without using any EQ!) That's the real joy of it, to me. Thank you gentlemen for an insightful and learning experience.
I didn't know that places like this existed in our earthly realm - love the vibe and Butch's attitude - what a video!!!!
Great interview...It was great to hear that even though you had some losses, you forged ahead. It taught you and others, that life and things are only around while they are,not when we want them to be. I also loved the fact you said this digital/analog

Phew that console is BEAUTIFUL
This was wonderful to watch, thank you for this! Nostalgia ftw!
Daaaang absolute fire
Butch has been super inspiring for me from the moment I found out about him. Congrats on 100K! Been here since 1K, amazing to see the channel growth.
What a nice guy, showing it all , with that energy.
22:13 absolute gold!
Literally been waiting and hoping for this one!!
What a super down to earth dude. Great tour and hang.

very cool space, cool vibe
So amazing! Butch is a legend. Congrats on 100k!
So fun to watch, Butch is one of those guys that have so many cool stories to tell, so freaking inspiring!!!
This made me cry....
No joke.
Not because of my current poor health, again, GODDAMMIT....

ah yes famous producer of August is Falling!
Its great to see and hear these guys talk gear but its even better when they tell personal stories related to their art. What a killer studio though...good lord!
Imagine playing every instrument 🎷 one time 🫨🤯
I don't know if anyone has ever told you this but, I really think it would be nice if, at the end of these studio videos, you had a song playing that is recorded in the studio shown..
Butch makes a great point: some amazing albums have been made in houses…James Taylor’s “Hourglass” is one example.
