It takes a long time to find all the pieces, and the best sources of information are often paid courses.
Yes Ubisoft does this however they have pros that can take over a year to design just the landscape he exported the base landscape that comes with world machine, from my experience complex landscapes take forever to design because you need x amount of landscape types, and they take even longer to export the height map if you have a computer to accomplish such a big map each tile has to calculate individually and won't finish until the others closest to it are also calculated which becomes a lengthy process you then have too build each individual lod because unreals lod algorithm won't hold the edge, each individual edge vertex which will create gaps in the landscape from afar. This is a really good starter video but your still have a long way to go if you want your landscape to lod properly and span forever if you want to mitigate popping nothing more weird when a mountain literally spawns in front of you when you finally reach a spot where world partition adds in a new section of landscape xD

This development is hard and i dont have time to learn, but if i can i would remake a simple game i love to unreal engine 5 just because how awesome this engine is
So my obvious question is, if you place objects (like that cube example) and it has to "pop" into existence because of your draw call/view distance, how come open worlds have trees and buildings in the far distance (obviously low poly/level of detail) - but they exist and not missing from the map. I don't understand why this is a thing, things popping into existence like it's 1995.
Most games uses fog + LODs + Fade between LODs. And by doing this it seems there is no pop. In general you can always not cull completely your model but place a LOD with only 1 plane facing the camera of the player with a texture of 2D "Tree" like a billboard. This works great for far distances.

So a question I have is can you still modify the terrain in Unreal Engine if you use an imported JPEG from World Machine? Like Sculpting/eroding the imported terrain further in Unreal Engine itself. If so what do you do with the textures?
can I use this to add random procedural generation to my game? I'm looking for a way to make the worlds random every time you make a new world, but so far all the options I have found have been paid plugins which I can't afford
Hi! Could you update your tutorial? You are explaining everything very well, but World Machine has been updated to 2.0 and is totally different. Currently I’m stuck on exporting my map, because you can’t Tile Build in 2.0 without Pro edition (229$ 😒).
Great tutorial! Would it be posssible to create a tutorial in WM on how to import a custom drawn map to build terrain from? Like, is there a way to import a black and white (2-tone) image of a landmass and bring it into WM? I want to make a huge world or at least the continents/islands that make the world but they were already drawn in photoshop
I forgot the actual node name but in WM you can use your black and white image like some sort of a mask for the Perlin noise, something like a file input node under generators
Hello, Well i have WM 4031 and its a bit different. in UE 5.4 the Landscape is really small. I tried to use all your settings and World Partition is running but its small. What can i do to make the LS way bigger ?
Hey mate I can't seem to get the tiled build to import all the layers. When I import the first 0 tile I only get the entire sample in one instead of divided. Any idea why this happens? My resolution is at 1009 and not 8k like yours.
@@CGDealers Hmm... Would you know how I could go about learning how to do that? Or... is it in this video? (I've not watched it all the way through.) I want to create a 10-mile region as photo-realistically as I can within realistic constraints.
@@Fiatluc I mean, when I'm in a classroom, reading a textbook, or viewing a tutorial, I kinda do want it spoon-fed to me, yeah. That's kind of the point. FYI (more directed at the initial poster): I'm fairly certain another one of their videos covers foliage.
@RAYfighter I totally get the logic of splitting these things up into separate videos as to not confuse newcomers, I was more so responding to the person who mocked the initial poster for wanting things spoon-fed to them as if that wasn't the entire point of tutorials, textbooks, etc. It just seemed rude and IMO wrong. That's obviously not the case, here, as I made a point of telling the initial poster.

Houdini will be a great choice. However World Machine works very fast with Unreal Engine 5, and you can iterate in couple of minutes with World Machine to UE5. MW Auto material and also this World Machine is licensed (World Machine is semi licensed but you need to buy it to be able to do something other than a D&D map basically). Can you please make a video with free softwares.
Great tutorial...just some things I ran into... It should probably be noted that this is Unreal Engine 5 Preview and some settings with World Partition have changed I believe. The only way I could find to get the World Partition options and to properly import the heightmaps was to use Tools > Convert Level first. As some mentioned the math is wrong and files size of a 32x32km landscape would be about 4GB? I suppose that's just resolution and you could scale up to 400 to get 32km? I don't understand math when it comes to Landscapes 😂 Has someone made a calculator yet? I figure resolution is okay to be low and detail can come through textures and other meshes...
Was this video re-made to fix the issue of what @Luciano Jacomeli said? I know people could have fixed the math in their heads while watching it but I think a re-make of this video with the fix would help a lot out. (yes, I know about the hearted comment)
Is this beginner friendly? I would love to get into Unreal Engine but it looks so daunting and every starter tutorial is 5+ hours straight. Can anyone direct me to something that would help me get a jumpstart so I can start creating? Thanks!

Followed step by step. Checked that I didn't miss a step a dozen times. No matter what I do, when I select the first x0y0 it only imports that map. All the other maps, x1y0, x2y0, etc. None of those import. Just the first one. Have watched every video I can find, checked all my settings more than I can count, uninstalled and re-installed UE5, nothing works. I can import the exact same grid maps into UE4.27 and it works fine, but UE5 only imports the first one.
You can try with newer version of World Machine as the one I've used work for 4.27 UE. In UE5 there are some differences in the terrain map. Hello, Well i have WM 4031 and its a bit different. in UE 5.4 the Landscape is really small. I tried to use all your settings and World Partition is running but its small. What can i do to make the LS way bigger ?
Switch to Gaea its better.
Now how to install the Battle Royale plugin on the giant open world? Instant hit game.
lol
Then add the NFT and Loot box plugin to ruin it.
Hey mate I can't seem to get the tiled build to import all the layers. When I import the first 0 tile I only get the entire sample in one instead of divided. Any idea why this happens? My resolution is at 1009 and not 8k like yours.
Hi. Great Video. Is it possible to generate landscapes in a perfect tileable hexagon base?
I would say it is not impossible but difficult indeed.
i wonder if final fantasy remake part 2 is using something like this
Can specific geographic locations be recreated using this feature?
Yes it could.
@@CGDealers Hmm... Would you know how I could go about learning how to do that? Or... is it in this video? (I've not watched it all the way through.) I want to create a 10-mile region as photo-realistically as I can within realistic constraints.
Well made
Nice ! It will be nice if you give it some finished look, add some trees ect.
You really love being spoon-feed are you mate?

@@Fiatluc I mean, when I'm in a classroom, reading a textbook, or viewing a tutorial, I kinda do want it spoon-fed to me, yeah. That's kind of the point. You learn all there is to know and then use that newly acquired skillset to let your creativity run rampant.
What version of World Machine is this? I'm not seeing the options you're clicking on.
I'm working on video - showing the same stuff on the new version. Mine is very old :>
Can you add roads and rivers in world machine then add meshes and water in UE5?
Tiled build options is missing and when I click the button at the top it says not availible with the standard license, so unless I pay $300 this tutorial doesn't work
Just switch to Gaea :)
@@CGDealers You read my mind, lol I got an amazing open world map now with Gaea, thanks to one of your tutorials :D
is there anything like 'world partition' in unreal engine 4?
This is super confusing with the newer version of World Machine... there is NO way to attach new layout as mask input lmao
Is it working for Multiplayer?
Yes
How was the terrain textured after making it? A function?
How do u make an landscape as big as skyrims
Make it on parts, not a single one.
Do you have to buy World Machine to do bigger maps? And what version are you running seems to be an older one.
World Machine Professional 3026 "Alpine Lake"
@@CGDealers its on build 4020, and its completly diferent :/ if you upload a new video with athis new build let us know =D
Im trying to learn but i cant even begin because i cant open the window on the left that says "New Layout" "Select" "Focus Extants"
Is there any major reason to work in WM. There are some other software like Houdini, some Addon in blender,
Houdini will be a great choice. However World Machine works very fast with Unreal Engine 5, and you can iterate in couple of minutes with World Machine to UE5. Great choice for prototyping and even for final product.
At the end of the day it's a matter of taste. In 3D And Game Dev, there are hundred ways of doing one thing.
Cheers!
please make a new video on this i just found it but there are many differences in my word machine
I will.
How do we find the tile build option???
thanks :)
MW Auto material and also this World Machine is licensed (World Machine is semi licensed but you need to buy it to be able to do something other than a D&D map basically). Can you please make a video with free softwares.
tried following but my world machine doesnt give me the same windows as yours when selecting stuff
Man the future of gaming is going places, unlike Battlefield 2042 😂 That's going in the trash
Check the pinned message.
wow bruh! Awesome
Unfortunately, I cannot delete a terrain after it has been partitioned. I have to delete the whole level to do so
Was this video re-made to fix the issue of what @Luciano Jacomeli said? I know people could have fixed the math in their heads while watching it but I think a re-make of this video with the fix would help a lot out. (yes, I know about the hearted comment)
Is this beginner friendly? I would love to get into Unreal Engine but it looks so daunting and every starter tutorial is 5+ hours straight. Can anyone direct me to something that would help me get a jumpstart so I can start creating? Thanks!
Check my other videos in the channel!
@@CGDealers Thank you. I would love to learn to create open world maps so I will check out your beginner tutorial!
Be cool to be able to feed in reference images of a jungle for instance and have it do the rest automatically.
Great job man
how did you add the water?
Use water/ocean system in UE5
Can you do it with new version?
Is there any way we can download this/your project file?
At the moment no, but I will provide the project files for future videos.
@@CGDealers Thank you!
You are amazing thank you! This helped a lot as I didnt know this was a feature until I watched your video. I am making a game with a friend and this helps a lot! Subscribed!
Does this work also work with the free verdion of WM?
Wow this would have saved 343 industry 6 years
It took them 6 years just to create a flat, bumpy map? How long did it take them to create the completely unique EVERYTHING ELSE?!
Anyway I'm working on a new Video showcasing how to use Gaea. As Gaea is Free to use at some point you can achieve very good results with less effort and Free of charge not like World Machine.
Subscribe if you want not to miss the Gaea video.
help bro, I don't load an array, but only 1 file _y0 version UE5 5.0.3
Strange. Can you give more info about your problem?
Love it when the thumbnail doesn't match the video. Catfished by UA-cam!
Can you make a map of World of Warcraft with the same cartoons textures ? As Microsoft bought Activision Blizzard, many of us are dreaming about a WoW in VR and with a graphics rework
