I only have a third party Wireless AAA battery PS3 controller and my PS3 got stuck in recovery mode and I could not figure out how to get out of it seeing that I need a wired controller. I found out by removing the hard drive and putting it in it resets the PS3 and fixes it. Saved me a few bucks from having to go buy a wired PS3 controller!!
So if I switch the hard drive on my ps3 to a newsed ps3 I will have all my saved game data it will basically be my old ps3 that’s awesome cause it looks like mine is on life support and don’t wanna lose my stuff

@@jws_j0sh662 In my desktop support experience, external USB2 HD cases have around 100 GB/h of data transfer. For a 120GB -> 500GB data transfer, it SHOULD not exceed 1.5 - 2 hours. Not "an eternity"! USB itself has a greater speed, but it's limited to the HD speed. My estimative of 100 GB/h is purely empirical, based on experience. Cheers.

hasnt anything to do with your hard drive. the error means that some data on the disc is damaged. a quick google search would have told you that. only thing you can do is get a new copy of the game and try again or try and clean the disc.
My kids use my old ps3 just as a blu ray player for watching movies but my blu ray disk drive has stopped working i think it may be because my kids have put disks in the wrong way. the os is not stored on the hard drive. *however* all your settings and firmware updates are. that means you have to have a usb stick with the latest firmware to get it to boot and all your users and everything are gone, basically resetting the console to stock. so back them up on a usb drive
@@Matt-yj1lz basically, but dont worry about that. a small usb stick costs like 2$ (you only need like 250mb) and if you dont have a pc you can easily ask someone to use theirs (it litterly takes 1 minute to download it from sony and then copy it to the stick) or go to a public library or something, they often let you use pcs for free.

The flash drive is not only for the saved data but for the software. When you install the new hard drive, it will prompt you to format the drive. There are instances when the system software will not auto start, at that time you will need to load the software from the flash drive.

Yeah, you can put in a new hard drive. Just need to make sure you have the latest full firmware and install it on the new hard drive. It will auto format once you put the PS3 up with the new hard drive. Also, if you had cloud saving turned on you could just download it to the new drive.

I never heard of a PS4 running with less than 500gb since the very 1st ones came with 500gb and I have no idea why would someone want less space but guess HDDs with less space work just fine.BTW the amazing graphics will come anyway lol.
Derrick Schupp you don't have to back it up it up if all you care about is the game saves. Keep it mind all other settings, and downloads will need to be manually completed if you don't restore from a back up.
It depends on how much stuff is on your PS3. I had about 100 gigs of stuff so I had to use a 128GB flash drive to do the backup. You can also use a USB hard drive. My backup took 3 hours for 100GB, and the restore took the same time. Just make sure your flash drive/external HDD is formatted FAT32, cause the PS3 won't use anything else. But Win-doze won't format anything bigger than 32GB as FAT32 so you have to use an ap to do the formatting.

@@millybrasi8934 it’s basically the same method. You need to make sure you have the latest firmware on the thumb drive. Not the update but the entire full download. Then it should initialize and install properly which will let you know that all users and existing data will be wiped.

Mount it sound like your drives on way out, it might be good idear to strip down and clean it out and redo the thermal past on the processer

You might be able to transfer game saves by using a HDD cloner. As for the os. It's stored on a chip in the system.

Did the PS3 boot up properly? It should have formatted the drive soon after it was booted up. Did you receive any errors?

Yes you can fit a 1TB drive in there. I believe 1.5TB is the limit but I'm not exactly sure on that.

Yes, they're the standard 2.5in drives so they will fit. They'll just be formatted upon bootup.

@@millybrasi8934 it’s basically the same method. You need to make sure you have the latest firmware on the thumb drive. Not the update but the entire full download. Then it should initialize and install properly which will let you know that all users and existing data will be wiped.
I upgraded mine form 120 GB to 750 GB
