Hello DIY North, I wanted to thank you very much for posting this very informative video. I have a question about when you went talked about backup utility. I recently just bought a PS3 and have nothing on it. Do I still need to put the USB into the PS3 and back up the system, before doing all the other steps? Hopefully that makes sense.
So, just the HD swap only gives you more space. The Jail Break, which I am yet to do, should allow you to play PS 1 and PS 2 games. So changing the HD will give me space to dump older PS games onto it. As I understand things it will play PS 3 games normally. If it all goes bad I'll just reformat the hard drive, or just put the old hard drive in and pretend that I didn't try the Jail Break.
I’m interested in doing a jailbreak. Subbed for future updates. I’m not sure which one is the best. I heard of hen. But I just want to play PS3, PS2 and PS1 games without any hassle. Also would a SDD make a difference?
I put an SSD in my kids xbox one and PS4. They are faster particularly for boot times and stored games. I didnt want to buy anything for the PS3 though since this is more of an experiment.
Thanks for getting to the point and not talking too much. I am going to try installing a 500gb Samsung evo 870 SSD in my ps3 slim.
Thanks for watching
Sounds like Jim Halpert😎 Thanks for the video
Thanks for checking it out
The only way to save your trophies is to sync them in PSN. The backup utility will save you everything, except the trophies.
Good info.
pro tipps here you can just move the plate that hides the hardrive to the right to remove it without damaging it
Thanks for the input
Thank you very much been trying to figure out how to upgrade the slim
Thanks for watching
@DIYNorth question to access the save data you backed up what would you do?

If you aren't transferring anything then no.
You'll still need to do the software update to download onto the new hard drive though.
@@DIYNorth thank you very much for responding and explaining what I need to do! Much appreciated!
So you didn't format your new harddrive to fat32 and ps3 detected it??
It was from a ps 4 so it may have already been in Fat 32.
I don't think I checked it.
@DIYNorth thanks man
Hmm. Interestin g project. I have a PS3 also. So what is the advantage of doing this? You can play PS4 games on it? Will it still play PS3 games?
