Bethanandmatt, holy shit, I can't believe it's been that long, it feels like I just bought this album a couple of years ago, awesome fucking album, Go Hard Brazil 🇧🇷, I have some great fucking memories from this album, the 90's was a special time for music, 🖤🇭🇲

Sepultura introduce the Brazilian indigenous music/history/ambience into Metal/World, this was a fucking historical masterpiece!
That is the best part of the album. The guitar riffs and solos are actually quite weak, basic and repetitive.
So ⚖️
@@HeathenDance It seems basic but actually its efficient and hypnotic and moody.
At this point Sepultura prooved they were great musicians, they didn't need to show off.

SEPULTURA pra sempre !
Rio de Janeiro-🇧🇷
I attended an exchange program in Dublin and one day during my voluntary work in a store of charity I asked an irish friend who liked heavy metal, I asked him what band did he most like and he said: Sepultura. Sepultura is a treasure from Brazil, open doors and changed the world of heavy rock. It´s a pity that the original formation split early and could have produced more relevant stuff. I just sorrow how Brazilians do not understand the band and they have never received the recognition deserved in its own country.
it's really a shame they don't have due recognition in Brazil.
Soufly..and Cavalera conspiracy...take a look, oh boy...Nail Bomb to! dude, they are awesome! all projects! 😍

funny, the same happened to me. I was the cliché 15 year older listening to linkin park, limp bizkit, and the likes. Then some friend told me "check this song" and he showed me Roots. Changed my metal state pretty fast, tbh.

You should listen to the album Arise too💞it's amazing.
brutal
Maybe comparative to most of todays music being handed a single malt wiskey by the bartender after drinking piss beers, and being shown the secret underground room to the fight club downstairs
Welcome to the true metal
Stunning, astonishing album. Never anything like it before or since. The DNA of the Amazonian cultures runs through this album, along with the vibes of the Brazilian street, and some brilliantly brutal metal. And slower is ALWAYS heavier. Sepultura would never top this.
Not just amazonian culture.
There s some african and also mediterranean ( who has a connexion with north africa and middle east), if you listen and study medieval portuguese and especially italian music , you' ll find a lot of patterns almost identical to what you find also in samba drumming etc...
Guess from where Cavalera comes from ?
I remember convincing my mom buying me this album in somewhat 1996. My favourite album still today. Most powerful stuff I ever heard!
It's one of the best. I got it in 96 as well.
I remember this album being hated for the numetal elements and no thrash
I think some people felt Max sold out for trying to go numetal to appeal to a different audience
At the time I hated it for the Numetal direction but all these years I think its pretty good but not as good as the trash albums.
Since by that time I only knew Nirvana, Offspring, Metallica - Black Album, and Fear Factory - Obsolete (I think, maybe I'm messing up dates), this album hit me strong... so, I've never noticed the nu metal thing in it. Even after all this years listening to Deftones and Korn. Maybe this album opened things for nu metal, not otherwise.
Cut Throat, Cut Throaaaat! Rrŕrrrraaaa
Still holding its own 25 years later and still as relevant. Love the cultural additions which make it unique. Every respectable wigshaker should own a copy of this.
Cut throat and ratamahatta one after another never fail to be the most adrenaline inducing music I've ever heard.
That was in 1996 after a drum competition. When you actually bought the whole album/CD and listened to it all like a good book. I miss 1996

Sepultura estaba adelantada al menos diez años a cualquier otra banda de la escena. Una verdadera lástima que la formación original se haya desarticulado, pues sin los hermanos Cavalera, esta banda simplemente nunca volvería a sonar igual.

still 1 of the greatest albums ever.
Growing up in the Boston area , in the mid 90’s to late 90’s, my friends dad gave him the house when he was like 19 and his brother 21 so needless to say it was party fuckin time . We had a drum set in the basement and I had my Marshall stack down there and we would get drunk and stoned and jam out all night long . We had a sick system in the living room and we used to crank Sepultura , slayer, machine head , Biohazard , ozzy , etc . The good ol days , moshing in the living room.
Boston?... stateside? Or uk?
I was always at the Toxic Narcotic House at this time...out paths certainly crossed... and hearing this album brought me right back to those days ....
South TEXAS loved this album too!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm from philly but we did the exact same thing . Friend got a house left to him at 18 I moved in when I was 16 .
This album stands as a masterpiece in the realm of heavy metal music, it represents a pivotal moment not just for Sepultura but for the global metal scene. Fusing the primal rhythms and indigenous sounds of Brazil with their signature thrash metal aggression, Sepultura crafted a sonic experience that is groundbreaking. Tracks like "Roots Bloody Roots" and "Attitude" showcase the band's ability to seamlessly blend diverse musical influences, while songs like "Ratamahatta" delve into the rich tapestry of Brazilian culture. For many, including myself, this album is not just a collection of songs but a profound journey, a testament to the enduring power and influence of this iconic Brazilian band.

My favorite Sepultura album
I was blown away by Roots when I originally bought it on a whim in ‘96. And I bought the extended edition with the bonus stuff. The production throughout is stellar!!! Simply brilliant. I love the whole percussive/tribal/cultural/hardcore metallic vibe of it. It is a Brazilian masterpiece.

Honestly my jog album. I feel like a Olympic runner when I go out speeding with this album.
This album was one of a few that put me in a different world. Roots, diabolus in merica, Master of Puppets Album, Chaos A.D., Cowboys from Hell, Far beyond Driven, Vulgar Display of Power, Great Southern Trendkill, Ride the Lightning, Kill em' All, LIVE SHIT BOX SET.
They all changed my 12 year old mind. Still listen to all of them. Before i learned guitar and drums, self taught. I would make a cardboard cut out of James Hetfields ESP Explorer w/bananna neck, paint it white and look stupid as hell. But when holding that cardboard and listening to Metallica it always gave me the chills. Drum sticks were made of actual brush sticks i carved out with a pocket knife. Playing air drums along with lars for 2 years. When i got to high school, i got to sit on a drum set for the first time and could rock that shit. The teacher asked how long ive been playing. I said, this is my first time sitting on a drum kit. He called me a liar....
Guitar took a while. Had to get over the sore wrists, and finger tips. But all self taught playing music by ear or tabs from books.
Sad thing is i havent touched my instuments in quiet some time. About 3 years. I always wanted to be a rock star, playing in bands when i was younger but the path we take is unforeseable...........
I needed that after work!!

This is the one, they realized they can go slower, more hard, more tribal, back to the roots. The album stands out in history of all rock ever. It's insane dive in to the angst and anger that is the South-America indian story. The jungle, it came alive and took me away. Something I listen that actually gives me peace and coherence responding to the thing that lies inside. Animus. I am animal, this is my jungle.
I was so glad to see Max with Soulfly visiting Finland at least one time in my life, huge amount of respect to this creative genius !
Arise and Chaos AD were going progressivly more slower or dynamical than the 4 albums before.

Even though Arise and Chaos A.D. were two masterpieces (heavy guitar sounds and riffs like never before, probably), I preferred their last album with Max Cavalera, tribal rhythms and voices make me always feel good and angry.
@@ihuffandipuff Isn't this more like groove metal? But I know what you mean. I always hated Sepultura because they sounded like the worst nu metal cliches. Now I understand that was because nu metal bands were ripping them off (eg the "cha-chug cha-chug cha-chug-cha-chug chugga chugga" pattern which is all over this album and every nu metal album ever), not because Sepultura themselves were nu metal.
I got into nu metal first, during the late 90s, so my perspective back then was skewed. Since then, my appreciation for other styles of metal has grown., including Sepultura For the most part, nu metal bands have not aged well.
This album is really one of the most popular in metal. It's so popular, my neighbors knows every riff, every lyric and every scream from Max!

I still get goosebumps when I listen it.
I forgot already how good of an album Roots is. At the time people hated on it for no apparent reason I fell in love with it the moment I heard it. The best Sepultura album to my mind.
Metalheads back then hating Nu metal for taking the lead on listeners over the world, that happened , and keeps happening, but then you see them and they like that Deathcore repetitive Cr4p, incoherent people in a nutshell.
@@felipegiraldo8100 No we hated this album because it is a garbage regurgitation of Korn and the Deftones.
