It's definitely one of Sepultura's. It's so raw and just a punch in the gut. This and Arise are my favorites. This one for rawness and Arise for brutality refined.

From what I remember when it dropped I wasn't overly impressed (it followed ARISE which was such a BRUTAL album) I still enjoyed it...
But revisiting it now in 2023, I'm glad to say that my recollection is VERY WRONG!!!
You can hear the growth of the band (just recently picked up the 2020 remaster of Beneath the Remains on vinyl) and just BLOWN AWAY by how much they've grown over a really short period of time!

Wasn't overly impressed, ( Roots is their Swan Song as artists) However i keep coming back recently to 80's punk an early thrash and how they wrote the sht i kne wand fell and how it has all come to fruition 10, 0000% Closer than any genere in music and any ar form save for comedy and satire.

Still got my Lsleeve from tour
The only band Slayer was literally afraid to take on tour around this time . I read interviews back in 92/93 with Kerry coming up with petty excuses , disparaging Sepultura as nothing but " Kill´em all " / " Reign in blood " imitators , not even worth the supporting band slot ... as I was reading that I understood sth else entirely ... he was simply afraid to take them out on tour and get slain each and every night , just like Sodom did here in Europe a few years earlier .
Sepultura behaved like really gentleman , expressing their appreciation for Slayer´s output , not even addressing King´s stupidity/fear .

Check Igor's "Thanks List" for Me/Keith & Umbar! We were HELMETS CREW and I was the Drumtech who convinced him to switch out the deep shelled (German) Sonor kit, for standard depth toms which are just as PUNCHY when tuned correctly. Plus, he & Max loved my Portland 90's Act @Hitting Birth (w/2 stand up kits and tons of metal Percussion) which ya can hear coming thru noice on ROOTS! Cheerce folks & yes, Igor & Max are even BETTER HUMANS TOO!

What a time for music this was! So many great albums in a 2 or 3 year period & so many still hold up today. This is Seps best imo and should be recognised as one of the best metal albums of all time.

for me this is sepultura's best album. every song is pure fire, energy, and GROOVE! pure rebellion, punk spirit with a heavy metal armor, and the musical embodiment of tribalism that was happening around the world at the time! this album literally created a genre of music....often imitated, never duplicated!

@@cbhamm5676 that's cool man. i like it all. sepultura have a very large arc as they have grown and have continually changed their sound as they have matured. not only as musicians, but as individuals. as an artist myself, we understand that not everyone is going to stay with us for our entire journey, just as in life. are you the same person you were 20 years ago, assuming you are over the age of 30, and do you still do all of the things the same way you did back then, or have you too grown in the ways you think and feel about everything? not just music, but just everything.
Unique sound, one of my favorite records. The bass section is huge.

He tenido la suerte de ver a Sepultura en vivo por primera vez (mayo 1994) con el tour de promoción de este discazo! Los mejores mosh de la vida, en cancha y sin ningún puto celular. Sepultura fué una banda imparable y potente que representó a sudamérica en todo el mundo.
Yo también asisti a Sepultura en 1994 en el gimnasio Gigantinho de Internacional, junto con Raimundos y los míticos Ramones. Una de las mejores experiencias de mi vida.
This is one of the best metal album ever. Great in every aspect, the riffs are so powerful fresh and raw, the drumming is straight and tribal with those samba accents, the mid tempos that break your neck... Cavalera brothers at their best.
"Manifest" makes me cry every time. It's a very powerful composition. Just genius.

When this album first dropped I wasn't overly blown away with it because of ARISE was so mind blowing!
Revisiting this album in 2023 it has gotten BETTER with time!!!

When I was 14 years old I signed up for the BMG clubhouse or whatever so I could get this CD through the mail because my mom wouldn't buy it for me. Start to finish it's one of the best albums ever. Love the lyrics, love the music, love the metal, love Sepultura.
For me, this is the best Sepultura album. The other one is Roots. Arise is very good as well. But Chaos was an icon for me, I love Cavalera period, the real Sepultura.

Nunca foi subestimado. Não conheço ninguém da minha idade que curte metal e que não tenha escutado esse álbum a adolescência inteira.
Tenho todo o respeito pelo SEPULTURA, foi minha primeira banda de metal que ouvi, um vizinho que veio do Rio de Janeiro, ele trouxe justamente esse CD. O chaos a.d. na época tinha 12 anos. Hoje estou com 35 e tenho várias tatuagens em homenagem a banda! Abraço a todos!

Uma coisa que sempre me perguntei: qual seria o tamanho do Sepultura se a formação original não tivesse se desfeito? Penso que seriam maiores que o Metallica!
A resposta e NUNCA, Metallica e o tipo de banda que os tataranetos vão ouvir, e também pessoas de pessoas ecléticas, sepultura possue muito mérito,e uma banda consagrada, esse álbum mudou o que eles aviam construído anteriormente, trazendo uma nova indentidade, e lógico que depois de 1993 a banda influenciou mais bandas do que anteriormente, mais Metallica virou uma espécie entidade depois do álbum Metallica de 1991,ou Black álbum como todos o chamam, sepultura sem sombra de dúvidas e o maior expoente do metal nacional sem dúvidas.
