#Metallica #StAnger
Every Metallica fan can hate me but the passion and the feeling of this song still makes the hair on my arms stand.
I got this title tattooed on my chest, I've never resonated with a song more than when I heard this song.
goosebumps.
Real fans love St Anger.
Totally true!!
Have you considered a manzillion
I'm another one who understands this album better the older I get. These lyrics hit really hard.
After I got diagnosed with epilepsy, the lyrics hit even harder then before.
Is horrible album
@@MarianoBeatlerothat’s not the point though………
@@MarianoBeatlerois not horrible album.
James was not just singing on this song, he was getting some bad shit out of his chest.
What is it, 17 years now, it still seams fresh and new, i fucking love it🤘🤘
You can see his anger in his facial expressions and the way he plays his guitar. I mean he had a traumatic childhood so maybe this is his way of expressing it?
I thought Kirk and Lars wrote most of the lyrics on this album?
@@Gorre022 no. All lyrics are written by Hetfield as stated on Wikipedia
@@datukareemaralling4832 mmm k I think they let Kirk and Lars try out lyrics but I guess it didn’t fly. I remember they tried it as part of their “rebirth”
The more I get older, the more I appreciate tracks on St.Anger.
Nah I just have depression so I listen to this song because it really does help
Do you mean the more you get older, the worse your taste in music gets?
I don't think it's a case of you getting older, I think it's a case of it being an album somewhat ahead of its time. Not to say it was evolutionary, but it just came out at the wrong time.
Had it not been for this album, my former band Trench wouldn't have got going...yet none of us were died-in-the-wool Metallica fans.
@@kristianbarford absolutely agree with you man! I liked it when it came out but now i love it!!!
Have to agree ...
It's hard to ignore or hate this song if you know exactly what feeling James singing about
Yes, we're all human and have that feeling inside... its just something almost never addressed in this way before...
We all have feelings and emotions, sometimes we need to express and release them
It’s anxiety, and I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy.
Agreed. this album had its flaws (understatement) but when it hit, it hit HARD.
I felt like I was having multiple heart attacks a week, inability to breathe while sitting in the wind. I felt like my body was failing me, like a flesh prison for my mind to scream in. I thought I was on my way out. Find out it was "just" anxiety, which being diagnosed actually made it almost all go away somehow? I'm not on meds. All situational. Still, feeling my skin crawl like that isn't something I'd wish on anybody.
St. Anger is honestly one of my favorite albums ever, it's just so raw, angry, and real
Totally agree. Back in the day I watched Some Kind Of Monster first and then bought St Anger - the album makes a lot of sense and really explains what James, Kirk and Lars were going through. St Anger is my third fave Metallica album. It's raw and honest.
Well... It's my favorite album! 👍🏼
Depends on the mood you’re in, but this album definitely has a distinct energy to it
And it’s an album people can relate to. (I’m sure most albums have that kind of thing, too.)
My world, shoot me again, purify and all whitin my hands SUCKS.
The other songs are fine.
The feeling is real metal, for sure. It hurts as much as it heals.
This album was ahead of its time in terms of composing, depth and feeling, thats why it is so underrated. You only begin to understand its qualities when you are older.
A emotional path perfectly translated into music. Absolute genius.
St. Anger is actually good, and this song is very underrated.

Anyone who had/ has anxiety disorder understand this song and the way of pain of this ill. Another great song / lyrics from St. Anger
living with anxiety disorder and panic attacks for 10 years now, gladly with the meds "i dont feel it come alive" anymore like i had it in the past. for me this song is the one i can relate the most, the hate it grows in me against the unnamed feeling is expressed greatly.
Not just that. It could be any feeling.

Only disorder here is you. No heart.
OTIS MORAN Sorry to hear that my friend
Definitely.
Metallica fan or not, so many people can relate to this. An underrated song.
This song has helped me through some dark stuff. I always turn it on when I'm having a panic attack, and I can barely breath, or uncontrollably shaking... Feeling like I'm going to die. This song always has my back despite the reputation this album has, this song means a lot to me.
Stay safe freind :)
I know how you feel I have bad anxiety and panic attacks and sometimes them both at the same time and Metallica helps me go through them
Music is the pill for everything. This is the reason why music exists.
How the fuck could anyone turn this on to calm them? 🤣
As unappealing as I find this album myself, I respect that!
This album is such a fine wine
That’s what I’m saying. This, Load and Reload aged well.

St. Anger was a true Metallica album, just because the majority doesn't accept doesn't mean it won't be a classic.
It will, if it hasn't already, end up like ...And Justice For All. A lot of people did not like that album but now it is a classic. St. Anger will be there too

One of James' greatest and most emotional vocal performances
Now there is that thing that I REALLY like in Metallica: The fact that they compose and play firstly for themselves. This is what a real musician is all about. You compose and you play what makes you feel good. St. Anger is, as other people said here, Metallica's most underrated album, one of their heaviest and most of all: the one with some of the most meaningful lyrics.
There will be haters of this album but they will never understand the message, the emotion, the anger behind it. As a true die hard metallica fan from the Kill em all album i say this emotionally is one of my favorites.
Aleksandar Dragovic pozdrav, brate!

This musical equivalent of a panic attack is low key one of the top 5 songs Metallica has ever done. Amazing amazing song that has got me thru a lot
That’s impossible. It’s either one of the top 5 or it isn’t. Just like it’s impossible to be lowkey pregnant. Stop using that annoying word or you will be lowkey idiot
St anger is 100% the best album for when your angry or having a breakdown.
Lyrically speaking ,this is one of the best Metallica's album, the lyrics are so powerful, I'm 29 years old and i listen to several subgenres of metal and i must say that Metallica is different, they sing for us ,for those who struggle with life every day.this song is so powerful that hurts and heals. Thanks james, sorry you had to feel that bad to get to write this lyrics.(sorry for my shitty English) greetings from Argentina.

I've never understood the shunning of this album. It cuts deeply for me. I guess some folks just can't relate.
Snare sound is unique tho
The album, and this song in particular, contains some of the best lyrics (and music) Hetfield and co has ever graced us with. You either connect with this album or you don't. Simple. I love it.
You fucking bet it is!
This is the Metallca's album i have listened to the most. It just satisfies something inside me. That subtlety i can't explain, probably the unnamed feeling.
The Unnamed Felling and St. Anger has helped me a lot, through the struggle of my life as a medical student.
I wanted to just give up, on everything, even life.
But St. Anger is the only reason I’m here, alive, standing against all odds.
There’s an “unnamed feeling” of loss, and stress, that “comes alive” for me, and when those feelings dominate, I just want to “get the fuck out of here”.
Thank you, James, and Metallica, for everything. For helping me fight myself. For helping me to stand victorious against all odds.
Linkin Park saved me from loosing my life, but Metallica, they saved me from myself. And I thank both of these bands for helping me through some really fucked up shit.

3:37 those atonal notes nail what the whole song is about... I'm still amazed how perfectly each segments goes hand in hand with the subject... This is to me by far one of the best songs in general, and I'm not a big metallica fan to begin with...
PS: I don't mind the snare sound because again it is suppose to be raw, like everything on this album
Is it atonal? Sound chromatic to me. I know both contain all the notes, but chromatic is more in order, and atonal is lack of order.
@@UnchainedEruption Could be you're right, the long open note always sounded to me as if was half-step difference between the two guitars... But I could be wrong
atonal? ...thought it was just heavy and crunchy and dirty as FVK, specially the second time round with the mutes @ 4:53 ^^
"The Unnamed Feeling" is the song that got me through my addiction recovery. I know what it means to feel forsaken, and alone in your recovery as addict. After I watched the "Some Kind Of Monster" documentary. I knew I was not alone in my addiction. I knew I could overcome, because someone I respected like James Hetfield, could over come.

Avatar Korra What (new) Metallica songs other than those do you recommend? I haven't really liked much that I've heard other than My Apocalypse. I used to worship Metallica back in the day. Still do when it comes to their older stuff. :/
My favorite was fritck
This album has a lot of negative sides, the lack of solos, snare, bad production, etc. But one thing that this album is unique for is the vocals. James was going through some shit at the time and he expresses the emotion through his singing style, its like he is in front of me and is telling me how life treated him harshly and I get behind it. Love it or hate it, this album is probably their heaviest by far.
The whole band was going through shit that's why they created this album. It's a catharsis
The more I listen to St Anger, the more the only thing that really bothers me is the lack of editing in the song. Whenever I hear an edit of a track - like this - none of that other stuff bothers me at all and the songs just shine for how powerful they are.
For me, I absolutely love the snare. It reminds me of the first time i played any percussion instrument. Maybe that's exactly what Lars was going for because the sound reminds me of where I came from and where I started in music. That along with the lack of guitar solos is actually a plus for me because when I listen to metal I usually tune out the guitar solos because I've heard so many, and there's one in literally every single metal song you hear. I honestly like the sound production quality, it's not my favorite, but it's far from the worst I've heard.
I agree. It takes courage to completely go against the grain once again compared to what they have done previously. Prior The Black Album.
Metallica have changed many times throughout their carrier.
And part of life is change & going a different path.
And I admire Metallica for daring to this. Take Slayer for example.
They are a great band. However after a while they become very monotonous in my opinion. As a musician myself I personally couldnt just play 1 genre all the time. Thats the reason why I want to learn various genres.
So whenever Im raging or having a good time I play Metal.
When I want to chill, I play blues, jazz or neo soul etc.
I never understood this primitive mindset that an artist is obligated to just stick to 1 genre. Its just ridiculous.
To me a good musician has the ability to determine what suits a piece of music the best. Sometimes rookie musicians think its all about them.
Showing off their skills & playing 15 minute guitar solos to satisfy their ego.
But to me its all about serving the song. And if the artist feels like a solo would not fit in a arrangement then he probably knows best whats good for the song.
And as someone who occasionally listens to underground Black Metal, I really dont care for "bad production" qualities at all.
Some of these tracks sound as if they have been recorded on a toaster lol.
To me this song feels like it could have easily been recorded & performed by heavy bands like Stained - Alice In Chains - Five Finger Death Punch - Pantera...
This song was 1 of the very first songs that really made me feel when I was around 13 & was up late at night, blasting this with headphones.
I really had to hold my tears back because the interlude with "Get the fock out of here" really hit me hard.
And an artist job is done when he is able to move his audience in my opinion.
So well done Metallica ! For going your own path without following anyone.
Thats why this band will remain always in my heart as 1 of the very first Metal bands I really got into.
The slightly distorted clean guitar melodies display the chaotic mind of a fractured mental state perfectly. And feel free to contradict me, but I think this is the only song that makes use of pinch harmonics.
@@supernothing9305
Interesting thesis right there regarding the symbolism of just starting out as a musician ^^
And the way you mentioned that almost every Metal song has a guitar solo present reminds me of the world of cinematography.
Also every move has a score & some background music usually.
But the movie "No country for old man" does not have any music in it.
And so in a way you could say that solos are a metaphor for creating background atmosphere.
But since the album doesnt has one, it could be interpreted that it would be a disservice to quote "negative" emotions such as Hatred or Frustration if you blanket them in atmosphere.
Raw emotion speaks for itself. As does the violence in the movie mentioned previously.
So thinking about the whole "leaving out the solos" thing as a reasoning
for putting emphasize on the emotion itself, would make a lot of sense actually to me.
Mind blown.
PS: If you want truly shitty production quality check out Transilvanian Hunger by Dark Throne. Even on HD it still sounds like it was recorded on a toaster. lol

As someone who deals with severe panic attacks, I’ve often stated that after each one I feel like there’s a part of me that died, that I will never get back. Thank God James is willing to give a voice to people who are suffering.
James poured out his heart and soul on this album and I personally think it has some of his best vocals to date. I mean, come on....4:01 speaks for itself. no one asked, but quick rant on why this is my favorite Metallica song:
1. the music - always been a fan of the raw, stripped-down nature of this album. no fancy solos, nothing complicated, just tuned-down, straight-to-the-veins feel. nothing wrong with solos or anything, but they took this song and album back to roots. and yes, the snare is awesome.
2. lyrics - I feel that we all can relate to what James is saying here. anxiety, fear, the unknown and unnamed feeling that consumes us all at times. it's relatable and we're all susceptible to it at some point. he just had the balls to be open and honest about it, which leads me to
3. raw honesty of the band at the time - not many bands then (and now still) are vulnerable enough to say how they're feeling. putting it all out there for the world to see (and inevitably mock). really telling of where the band was in the early 2000s. takes guts and gotta give the guys credit for it here.

This album came out.. spoke directly to me. In a way St Anger saved my life.. one of the best albums in so many ways..
Such an underrated song; so much raw emotions and anger, which so many of us could relate to
After years of Anxiety and losing my dad recently this song/video is exactly how I’m feeling.Thank you James
Back in the day I wasn´t that into this album, but on recent listenings, its gowing on me...
I think it was written from the heart of a guy near 40 dealing with anxiety, takes a while to warm to :)
This song saved my life... i was on a flight from New York to Washington DC and started to feel claustrophobic i don't know why... this meant death for a nineteen year old ( in that time) and somewhere this song played and brought me back to life, more calm. CANT GET ENOUGH OF THIS EPIC SONG ❤
Ay Que Flirteo! Oficial sure
This is my head when my schizophrenia gets bad.
What
Best Metallica song ever
What they've done as a band and particularly James as a songwriter has always come from an honest, and like in this song, very personal place, as with any form of art it's still subjective and of course you don't have to like all of it, but there's something in every album to appreciate, they keep evolving and experimenting. Metallica is definitely one interesting band.
"I hate it all, why why why me?"
Anyone dealing with mental health issues knows only too well the unnamed feeling.
I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder after many years struggling with myself and my own demons. Through all, this song always identified my own mind and feelings when I had my "low" times as I like to call them. This song helped me a lot when I was down along with Fade To Black. Music helped me out and Metallica, and specially James, contributed. James is my hero, and all I want to do is to hug him and tell him "thanks". And as he said, if you are struggling and are afraid to speak up, your are not alone!
Thanks for reading.
As a person that has suffered from mental health issues from childhood trauma; I love this album. I can imagine the variety of emotions Hetfield was going thru while writing these lyrics. Anyone who doesn't like this album just doesn't ger it.
St anger is therapy
What I like about this album, James's vocals are so clean, barely no effects to his singing.. Awesome!
I always find my way back to this song. Lyrics still hit me in the weak spot. 32 now and Metallica's music has and will forever be apart of me.
Truth it's tiring isn't it
Having recurring depression for almost half of my life, this song acts as a hymn for me since at least 2009. A comprehensive view on such feelings, thanks Papa Het
this is one of rawest and saddest songs I've ever heard
so much better than all their later proposals... so raw and authentic, powerful and energetic yet simple, just without unnecessary elements
it's really a pity that St. Anger wasn't appreciated enough, they would have been in a completely another point right now :(
Michał Tatjewski I agree! It's one of their most distinctive albums, it has heavy riffs, it's interesting, and it connects often to my feelings! It's unique!
The documentary based on it was brilliant
best band ever ♥
This song came at a rough time in my life and that’s why I appreciate this song and album so much
This song describes panic attacks to a tee. To a fucking tee.
+seanofthedead90 Then someone ought to tell James that there's a name for this feeling.
yes. and when I hear frantic it literally almost gives me one. I don't know y
because its an intense freaking song
Spoken like someone who's been there. Me too, brother.
+Mike Tables can't reason like you and me.. But if he could, I believe he would say that there are many names for it.. You fill in the blanks.
This song is about me. I know it's about Hetfield. But it's about me too.And lots of you, probably
Yes
Yes you’re extremely right he made therapy for us all
A lot of folks complain about this album as having too much teen-ish angst. But as I’ve grown into my adulthood and dealing with years of mental health struggles, I understand these songs better than I ever could have wanted as a teen. Give it another shot.
4:55 always get mad chills here for some reason. Probably my favorite song basically ever
Man that little variation in the riff fucking slaps! Gives me goosebumps everytime, so simple yet so great!
