I really like how the snare in this song sounds like the St. Anger snare but a properly mastered and mixed version of it. This song is how I imagine St. Anger would've sounded with proper instrument mastering and mixing.
That whole album was tracked weird. So much bleed and the Room noise is just terrible on that album. It’s really hard to listen to…and I’ve heard it more than most.
@@charlesrocks and the lyrics are not that great. We have been from "One" to " Frantic tic tic tic tac..." And then "I am the table". Fortunatly, Death magnetic and Hardwired fixed this.
Nothing to do with mixing or mastering, Lars turned his snare wires off. No amount of mixing would've made it sound like a proper snare.
Okay so I listened to St. Anger, and holy shit, the snare is the only thing wrong, because I think if they got that right, it might of at least been an alright album, because everything else is heavy and sounds appropriately, well, angry.

@CrypticMemory yup. It sounds less tinny and trash, actually really good. If he would have used this one in St anger, it would have been better. Also he uses it really aggressively in St Anger instead of playing it how he played here, that made it much more annoying.

Actually, the last recording Jason ever did with Metallica was "- Human" in S&M.
The bass you hear in "I Disappear" was Bob Rock's.
Jason just shot the music video (his last with the band).
@@viniciuspinheiro5515 Jason did play on the studio recording of this song. Bob rock rehearsed it with them in pre production. He mentioned this to explain how he first played bass with them, which is why he played on st anger after Jason left.

This maybe a "cool story bro" kinda thing but here we go. One Friday in May in 2000 I came home from school and put on the Kerrang! channel. There was this video of these 4 guys playing this really groovy metal on top of this giant rock in the middle of the desert. Anyway there was this dude dressed all in black, wearing a black beanie and playing this really big guitar. I had no idea what a bass was at the time you see. I said to myself "I want to be like that guy" That guy was Jason. That summer I worked 2 jobs so I could buy my first bass which was a Black Aria STB P-Bass copy (which I still own all though it's been heavily modified) Some 19 years later I'm still playing bass and Jason is still a massive influence on my playing. It's ironic how it was the last Metallica video he appeared in and the last Metallica song he played on. Jason, if you ever see this, Thank you man.

Story time: my dad who is from a small town 20 minutes from monument valley where parts of this was filmed got to hangout and party with James and Newsted over night, not while they were filming this but another time in the early 90s, not sure why they were there the first time but I’ve seen footage of them hanging out in monument valley when they all still had long hair lol, but pretty dope though

ScentlessApprentice7 Because those of who grew up with Metallica consider it, well, not really Metallica. Comparatively, it's a quite a departure from the old school. Many of us consider 'Justice' to be the true, last and final Metallica album. Even the 'Black' album had die hard fans scratching their head. But, that album put them solidly into the popular mainstream. After that, it was downhill until they re emerged in the 2000's, as the "new" Metallica. While I do, on rare occasion, listen to their new stuff, I've never purchased any of it and likely never will.

Jack Allen Not really. I've tried it. Its not just me. New Metallica is a bit like Top Ramen Noodles. If it's the only thing to eat, I'll deal with it, but I'm not consuming it as part of my regular diet and I certainly won't enjoy it. Old metallica is like a steak dinner by comparison.

I don't hate it but I don't particularly like it. In comparison, if St. Anger was a debut album by a young up-and-coming band, it would have been given rave reviews.

I love how James, Lars, and Kirk all have something intense happening to them, like running from planes, jumping out a building, driving away from weird nature bullshit, etc. and then Jason is just getting bumped around trying to go up some stairs.

I saw it differently. Like he's trying to go against the flow, when everybody goes into the building, he wants to go down. I guess the concept is everybody had to face something they fear. While everybody runs away from a very physical danger (while looking cool for the video), he faces "conformity", because that's what he fears. Which is very well pictured, since he did different from everybody else in the band :P

As soon as I saw James doin his thing (keep in mind that at my young age I had NEVER seen or heard anything like this), I resolved to be a badass, and metal is my shit.
