I hate it when people say this album is terrible. Admittedly not their best, but is probably some of the most relatable feelings of anger and pain I've ever experienced from an album. This album has been in my life for a long time and I'm proud to say that I've needed it as much as metallica needed to make it. It has been a real inspiration to how I try to write music, meaning I don't give a fuck if people like it or not because it's for me and to stay true to emotions that I may be feeling at the time, either good or bad emotions. I'm honestly willing to say it's taught me how to deal with the emotions of being a man and dealing with death and hate, addiction and love.
Love you guys forever.
Shoot me again, I ain't dead yet. 🙌

@@JuanRV73 What's so bad about this song or you just repeating what everyone said ?
This song helped me through depression. When it came out, I heard it at least 10 times a day and tried to learn it on guitar. I pushed the hell out of my right hand until I got it right. And it was AWESOME when I played it loud in the same tempo. I don't care what people say, this is one of the best songs of Metallica because it's loud, fast, heavy, and powerful at the same time. And best of all, IT HAS A MESSAGE that you can feel identified with.

If you go to the beginning, Lars counts "1, 2, 3, 4" in Danish. Pretty cool.
Yeah we are proud of lars at home in Denmark 🇩🇰🇩🇰🇩🇰
Psyche Fuck, when I'm reading such comments my personality splitting instantly. First there is a short period of mad smile and laugh (cuz jokes about Lars always funny even when they're corny) and then that thought... What kind of turbo expensive and extraordinary drugs he was taking during recording and releasing the shit? It's just fucking impossible to let this to factory (disc pressure?) and then sell as Metallica album by healthy minded person who was one of the greatest metal compositors... and pretty good drummer especially late '80 when he could into double kick.
Just think about that. Imagine Lars standing near console with billions of strange buttons listening to final record of this... this fucking piece of insanely fucked up gigantic smelly disgusting loose shitSuddenly he just smiled up to himself thinking that this is ABSOLUTELY FINE and work is done. @@lavrvm4656 Kurt Cobain screams are like a kid in puberty
@@lepork519 Well yes, but actually no... Kurt was more natural in screams because of his very rough voice; James didn't use a lot real screamings (except in a very few songs like The Unforgiven III, or in Kill 'Em All, but it was his young voice, not screams)... But apart from James and Kurt (who played totally different genres) one of my favourite singers in screams is Phil Anselmo, from Pantera. He is a real master.
@@lavrvm4656 you should hear James on live, he has some pretty serious deep screams, especially at One, Seek & Destroy, Creeping Death and Master

As a entire life Metallica's fan, I say: Be strong, Papa Het
A song about anger that when I hear cools me down. All hail St. Anger!
I love James's voice...like damn
Fans can be so demanding sometimes. They don't want their fav band to move on and express their current emotions, or explore new genres and sound, they want them to stay the same as they were in their old album(s) (perhaps one album the fan particularly likes). The band isn't allowed to move on, they have to stay in their "Master of Puppets" sound and never move on.
I like this album. It was refreshing.
mequable did you copy paste that from a previous comment?
mequable This albums fucking kicks ass! I love the pure anger in all the songs.
I don't care if band moves on or changes its sound as long as it doesn't change to shit like this one.
mequable James' singing is worse than previous albums, the songwriting is bad, and using snare drums constantly with no guitar solos makes it even worse. Especially for a lot of the longer songs.
mequable there is no way to leave everyone happy we all want to see metallica grow; but some people think that the old sound is the only sound they should play...but lets take a look at slayer...ALL THEIR ALBUMS SOUND THE SAME WITH A DIFFERENT SOLO AND DIFFERENT LYRICS there i said it come and hate on me guys...but that is the reality i liked this album something different to the usual hard rock and heavy metal of the old albums

This and battery are my two favorite songs by Metallica
2023 and I still can't listen to this song without playing it ten times in a row. It stirs up so much emotion that needs to be dealt with. This album is as much therapy for us as it was for Metallica.
I don't get why people don't like snare drums here. It gives it such a dirty, raw sound. To me it's perfect.
+izaaks100 I know - sure, I think some of their older stuff was better but people act like this album is death itself...It's a different sound, but this song and sweet amber are some of my favourite metallica songs...
+izaaks100 Imo, the best album from metallica with ride the lighting !
I don't have much of a problem with the snare itself. It's just that they made it louder than everything else, even James' vocals.
i dont get how can people call it "trash can" it's just alot of plate and spring reverb. every metal drum has it, just there we have much more of it
the mixing on it just sounds off. It's too much. The first slipknot album had the same idea just executed much better, giving a raw sound but not sticking out so much in the mix
This is such a System Of A Down influenced song. I can totally hear these guys playing and Serj singing it while listening to it!

Because people are static. They don't like change. Just look at Hollywood today. Everything that sells is something old and familiar. This is a very abrasive, angry album, even heavier than their 80s works, and if your life is going too well, you're just not going to get it.

This is my favourite Metallica song, it’s so raw and intense!
I think people lose sight of the snare's purpose in this album. The album is about anger and frustration, that snare makes you uncomfortable on purpose (like a comedian will make people uncomfortable before a punch line to make the laughter an escape thus amplifying the joke). They want you to get to a dark angry place with no sensibility and that snare is there to make the song sound more raw, it's there to antagonize you so you transport yourself to that place. And then the lyrics and riffs are the escape. It's an album that is meant to be heard while you jump around like a maniac screaming, not to be heard while you sit still and pick it apart. It's the musical equivalent of someone getting in your face until you explode in fury.
people are that stupid. They say they are fans of Metallica and do not understand a damn thing about their music. People wanted Metallica to thrash again after Load/Reload. That's what it is: pure thrash in its rawest expression. You cannot get much more aggressive than this.
Exactly. The psychology behind this album is just pure brilliance.
Mario Dupuis i like st anger ( the song) and i dont doubt the thrashity ,lets say, of their songs and especially this one but for exampke frantic was a dissappointment from the part of performance or as a song.

There is real conviction in every snare of this song.
I don’t care about the snare sound. It doesn’t bother me. This entire album is really good in ny opinion. Hate me. However, a edit of this and any song off of St. Anger with a guitar solo would be cool. They already exist, but doesn’t matter if they’re there or not to me. It would be fun though.

Shouldn’t that say something about a band? If you think about it who should get the most authenticity in any critique towards a band rather than the people who helps create their success to begin with.
Reason Known? Yes
Reason: St. Anger, Load/ReLoad, Death Magnetic and Hardwired...To Self Destruct are utter garbage albums
Reason I am here? Check out music to see if its bad
Why is St. Anger so bad? No solos? Does this apply to all of the songs in the album? Most likely
Why is Load so bad? Do I even need to include this? It was so bad Guitar Hero Metallica only took 3 out of the 27 in load and reload combined leaving 24 of them out. Why did I include Reload with Load? Because Reload was a sequel to Load if you couldn't figure it out.
Why is Death Magnetic so bad? Not like anything Metallica has made, And what they've made is what's good, Except Broken, Beat & Scarred is good and Cyanide is good in most of the parts
Why is Hardwired...To Self Destruct so bad? Same as what I said about Death Magnetic, Except NO good songs
EDIT: I, of course, understand every albums has shit songs but when the entire albums are garbage, It's not acceptable, I even expected The Unforgiven II (ReLoad) to be good because the first The Unforgiven (Metallica/The Black Album) was fucking great but no reused lines and not even fitting for the name The Unforgiven II
Bob The Builder So your criticism is not even the actual quality of the songs most of the time but simply that it's a different style from what Metallica made in the 1980s, do I understand that right?

They should make a 28 minutes long version of the whole St. Anger album, and it would be most kickass material in the last 20 years.
I heard, it isquite good, and I had posted the above mentioned 1 month before Hardwired to Self-destrust was released.
To make it much shorter, cause the main problem with the Album is that, it is simply too long with its 78 minutes. After half an hour the album just gets very boring and repetitive. They should leave about a bunch of songs, or they should reduce the longness of the them back to 2-4 minutes. 28 minutes is a reference to Slayer's Reign in Blood. That was around 28 minutes and simply perfect in its concreteness.
The snare sounds awesome idk why are people complaining.
