Brother, you just discovered one of the greatest bands that ever existed.
Gregg Allman deserves a lot more credit than he gets as one of the greatest singers in rock. His voice can be rock, blues, country and soul.
I agree !
Hey! Duane is pronounced "Dwayne".... Jaimoe is the only one still alive, Dickie Betts (guitar) just passed away a few weeks ago. They pre-date Skynryd. Gregg Allman sings and plays hammond organ. Thanks for checking this out.
If. you like this, you MUST check out "Whipping Post" and "No Way Out." You'll want more, I promise. Thanks for the great reaction.
One Way Out.
@@deborahdean right . . . my mistake.
You mean One Way Out
Dicky Betts just left us as you saw
Ramblin Man should be up next in his honor
This is definitely a band worth exploring. Try "One Way Out" or “It’s Not My Cross to Bear”. RIP Dickey Betts.
Fellow Georgian Jimmy Carter had a great relationship with them.
Greg Allman, I'm no Angel. Great tune
Thank you, that one rarely gets mentioned. I think you're the second person I've seen besides myself to request it.
Great rock band from the 70's that mixed blues, jazz & country music in their sound. They had lots of great songs such as "In Memory Of Elizabeth Reed", "Statesboro Blues", "Whipping Post", "Melissa", "Blue Sky", "Ramblin' Man" etc. One of my favorites is their instrumental "Jessica" which was written by guitarist Dickey Betts & named after his daughter.
Duane was a Swamper, studio musician with Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section. Check the Muscle Shoals documentary.
Hit them hard and often ! Whipping Post , One Way Out , Southbound should get you started . you discovered what very well may become your favorite band ! they are THAT good !
"In Memory of Elizabeth Reed" "Ramblin Man" "Melissa" "Jessica" "Soulshine" (although I like Warren Haynes/Govt Mule version better)...
Gregg Allman was the lead singer and keyboard-Check out anything from Live at Fillmore East and you'll hear his soulful voice-one of the best.
You got some great live shows to choose from. Please enjoy these guys. You're going to be blown away
Great Band. Great Song. Southern Rock is tough to beat. Thanks for the reaction
Duane Allman (Skydog) was only 24 when he passed which makes his contributions even more astounding.
The Founders of Southern Rock! You Must Do a Marathon Run.
Cool as this song is, they've got a dozen more that'll blow it out of the water. Whipping Post. Blue Sky. Jessica. Ramblin Man. In Memory of Elizabeth Reed.
“Whippin’ Post”, “In Memory of Elizabeth Reed”, “One Way Out”, “Dreams”, “Not My Cross to Bear” are all must hear. Yes, most everything is great, but these songs particularly speak to me, as well as “Midnight Rider”. One of my favorite bands for years. Never tire of listening to them. Great reaction.
Whipping post next please! One of the best Rock/ blues song ever written. Written by Greg Allman the lead singer Allman Brothers band
They Lynnyrd Skynnrd comparison is right on.
None of them set out to create a musical genre called “Southern Rock”. It’s just that they were rock bands and were very much all from The South. Greg Allman once said in a documentary that among his motivations for the band was showing the world that The American South had more to offer than the many negative ideas that came to people’s minds in the 3rd quarter of the 20th Century.
Other really top notch classic Southern Rock bands are Charlie Daniels Band, Marshall Tucker Band (sensing a theme? 😉), Blackfoot, The Outlaws, Molly Hatchet, .38 Special.
More modern bands include Blackberry Smoke, Drive-By Truckers, Black Stone Cherry.
Lotta good music wating for ya.
I was lucky to see a few times back in the day. They put on a great concert, my all-time favorite band and forever will always be.
I was too! Best concerts every besides Elton John!!
They are a legendary southern rock bluesy band. You will love them so much.Must songs to react to are Whipping Post, Blue Sky, In Memory of Elizabeth Reed, and Jessica!
I'm thrilled you feel this band like we all do.
Greg Allman is the singer. Duane (Do Wayne) Allman is on guitar and was famous for his slide guitar. He played on Layla by Dereck & The Dominos (Eric Clapton band)
Both the Allman Brothers and Lynyrd Skynyrd hail from Jacksonville, FL. The Allmans are more of a "jam band" than Skynyrd, but they're both Southern rock and deservedly acclaimed...
From my +1,000 CD library, here is a song list in the order I like them. This should give you a feeling of the variety of music the Allman Brothers produced.
Whipping Post [rock, rock-blues ???]
Statesboro Blues [blues style]
One Way Out [blues, blues-rock ??]
Crazy Love [soft rock ???]
Dreams [??]
Jessica [instramental]
Ain't Wastin' Time No More [blues-country ???]
Ramblin' Man [country style]
You're gonna love the Allman Brothers. Them and Zeppelin are my favorites from that era. Listen the the anything off the A Decade of Hits 1969-1979 album. "Whipping Post", "Jessica", "Aint Wasting Time"... Really all of them. Live at the Filmore East is one of the best live album ever.
A great one that I haven’t seen mentioned
No One to Run With
I’m here for this fantastic rabbit hole!
You're gonne LOVE "The Band", if you like this. I recommend "The Weight" w/The Staples Singers, live. You won't regret it.
Print out a list of their discography, pin to the wall, throw a dart to pick a song. They're all good.
DEFINITELY do "Whipping Post". Start with the studio version -- the vocals are clearer. THEN do the live version ❤️ it will absolutely BLOW. YOU. AWAY.
Oh man, RIP Dickie - this reaction is where I found out he died.
It was just last week that we lost him...😔
RIP, Dickey Betts ~ 💜
Saw the almond brothers in Saratoga Springs Up state New York in 1972, just after Oakley died.
Great reaction to a great band!... Please listen to Whipping Post next from them!
I never saw the original lineup play. I was 13 in 1971 when Duane passed. I bought their live record when it came out and became an instant fan. Bought Eat a Peach next and then their first two albums. I saw them once in the 80's with Dickey Betts and was a bit disappointed to be honest. Think Gregg was drinking and drugging a little too much in those days. I saw them many times at the Beacon, including their last run in 2014. 2003 and 2013 shows were tne best IMO. Warren Haynes tours on his own with Govt Mule. Derek Trucks and Oteil Burbridge teamed up with Derek's wife, Susan Tedeschi, to form Tedeschi Trucks Band, who IMO are the best live band in the land these days. Oteil got together with 3 original members of the Grateful Dead and Jeff Chimenti and John Mayer to form Grateful Dead offshoot Dead and Company. All of this fantastic music coming out one of the greatest ever bands, the Allman Brothers Band. Oops, nearly forgot Chuck Leavell and Jimmy Herring of Widespread Panic. Sure I left some greats out here....
Gregg Allman sounded every bit as good live ALL the way til his end. Legendary! You should pull up Midnight Rider with Vince Gill, The Zack Brown Band & others, on stage doing Midnight Rider w/the legend himself. It was not all that long b4 Gregg passed, couple years or something like that. Killer performance! Those guys showed they knew they were up there on that stage w/a legend❤
Definitely need to check out
Allman Brothers
Whipping Post
If you like this, try Jessica
Take a little trip with their song blue skys🤘❤️
Sweet Melissa
Love❤❤
More of my hometown boys! We do it right in the south :) You have to listen to "Whipping Post" and "Soulshine" when you get a chance.
Here's the song, "Soulshine": ua-cam.com/video/CecdQehjJUg/v-deo.html
Looking forward to a bunch more Allman Brothers reactions. Oh, and more Bad Company also!
Baby brother, Gregg was lead singer, Duane was lead ax, trading with Dicky Betts rhythm guitar, at times for lead. Dicky just died this month -April 2024, age 80.
Live at the Fillmore East. ALL of it. in headphones just for you, then pick one. Doesn't matter which one...
So glad you found The Allman Brothers Band rabbit hole. Dive into their improvisational jams like Whipping Post and In Memory of Elizabeth Reed and Jessica.
Long train running ....😊Next please
They had me with Statesboro Blues - was 18 years old
Check out live video of One Way Out.
There are so many more. Check out "Blue Sky."
They are Southern Rock band
You listed most of the rest of their big songs so for the next one, just pick any of those. As part of outlaw Southern Rock, as you described committing a crime to create the demo, consider the Gatland Brothers, Bellamy Brothers, 38 Special and others.
I may need to add this to my road trip playlist. I start with two from Boston, Don't Look Back and Foreplay/Longtime, but I almost always start my road trips exactly at midnight so I am five to seven hours along before sunrise depending on the time of year.
Damn good reaction.
You should watch the muscle shoals documentary..the stamp they put on rock and roll is legendary!
They had two lead guitarists in the band at this time.
Gregg Allman was married to Cher for about a week. She divorced him because of his addiction issues after he passed out into a plate of pasta on their honeymoon. He is the father of her son Elijah Blue, who has also struggled with substances.
Well, I'm 73 ( holy moley ) and CAN'T BELIEVE there are people alive today - THAT DONT KNOW WHO THE ALLMAN BROTHERS ARE ( RIP guys ) - Eat A Peach !
dwayne is the guitarist ... his brother is keyboards/vocals .. you wanna get dwaynes 'sh!t'? origin .. 'loan me a dime' boz skaggs!
Blackfoot. Strikes! Hey,natives.
brilliant keep it up
Do a deep dive.youll love them.the filmore east live lp is a must.
Get on the “live” material! Live at Fillmore East and Eat a Peach (mix of studio and live) should be consumed from start to finish!
Now I would like to suggest that you react to Little Feat. Some New Orleans flavor, I bet you’ll love them. “Dixie Chicken”, “Fat Man in the Bathtub”, “Willin” and “All That You Dream” are a great start.
Rolling Stone magazine doesn’t know crap when making these all time list out number 57 my ass show me another group that three band one day concert which the Allman Brothers headline 600,000 people showed up at Watkins Glen known as the summer jam…. For me they’re the greatest band ever and I’ve seen them 15 times.
They were after CCR but b4 Skynyrd.
Duane was a huge loss n really is the creator of Southern Rock according to Jimmy Johnstone of the Muscle Shoals studios house band, the Swampers.
The moment came in Duane’s solo at the end of Wilson Pickett’s Hey Jude!
Check it out.
Also do Whipping Post!
No They are the Allman Brothers Band ❣️❣️❣️Listen to Whipping post, dreams, soulshine,Ramblin man...THEY WERE ORIGINAL S!!!
Allman Brothers founded before LS. LS influenced by AB , not the other way around
❤

You owe it to yourself to listen to "One Way Out" ...live at Fillmore.
It's pronounced Dwayne
Du-wayne
Jay quellen, is there no Jay quellen here
Duane Dowane
