Dickey Betts’ musical legacy is due to the fact that, after the loss of Duane Allman, he wrote music for the band and was instrumental in keeping the Allman Brothers going.

Beyond the raw talent, it takes an obsessive amount of hard work to play that well! Thank you Dickey.

Dickie had that guitar flowing like a fiddle in this song. His sense of melody in his phrasing just blows my mind. He was so under rated as a player. Just takes it where he wants it to go. Even snuck in a phrase from Jessica , too.

Great songwriter - In Memory of Elizabeth Reed, Blue Sky, Les Brers in A Minor & many more - as well. He & Duane were the 2 best lead guitarists ever to form a band, and their duets were magical. RIP ✌️❤️🎶

The Allman Brothers hit Macon Georgia in the early 70 's. As a group they were known as those long-haired hippy freaks. They rented a home in our historical neighborhoods and played in our city park for free. They soon had a huge following but were dead broke. A black lady, Mama Lousie, and a southern cooking Cafe and felt sorry for "those poor boys" and fed them for free. When they became famous, they took her on tour with them in order to pay her back for her kindness. Happily, the home they rented is now called the Big House and Museum. Mama's Cafe, the H and His still doing a great business although Mama passed, her family keeps the business up just the way it always was. And they still help the poor. Those were our best days and are foever preserved in our history. As the band always said, The Road Goes On Forever.

Just went and saw all this after Dickie died. There’s still a mural on the outside wall in downtown Macon of an old picture of the band eating in H&H Restaurant back in the day. Rose Hill Cemetery downtown, which inspired several hit songs where they would go jam in the graveyard, has 4 members of the band buried there together and room for the other 2 if they should choose.

I agree completely. Dickey was one of the greatest singers, songwriters, and vocalists and a co-founder of what became known as Great American Southern Rock and Blues. The Allman Brothers Live at the Fillmore East double album is considered by many (me included) to be one of the top five greatest live album performances.

One stop through the whole song........how do you pause that kind of mastery right? It was obvious from your reaction you could not stop listening. My son has my vinyl collection and as I am getting up in years there was only one other thing he said he wanted of mine......my Allman Brothers box set. So I took it to him this summer. Their appeal cuts through so many generations. RIP Dicky Betts.....

You make a good point so I will clarify the matter further. The Allman Brothers Band not only perform southern rock, they are widely credited as being one of the founders of the genre when they formed in 1969. The Allman Brothers Band was preceded and heavily influenced by Bo Didley who deserves credit as well. The Lynyrd Skynyrd Band emerged no too long after the ABB as did Creedence Clearwater Revival. Thanks again.
